Unity of Command
I haven't bought the game yet, but looking at all the stuff around and the demo, this game looks damned fun. Anyone else play it?

It seems to me that in this game Persia and Greece are controlled by the same person/close friends, despite it being a gunboat game they are cooperating... not attacking each other, AT ALL, and supporting holds on each other. It is very suspicious.

France EoG:
Early game(1901-1904)
Fairly uneventful… Russia got to 7 centers(his highest point), Italy and Germany started tough then stalled out for a bit. England got destroyed by me and didn’t even put up a fight. Turkey and Austria already were screwed.
Mid game(1905-1908)
Russia got knocked down to 5 where he stayed until the last year of the game. Italy goes on the offensive in the Balkans and really starts to worry me. I made my first mistake by going south with only 2 units and had to play it off by making it look like I was going through on a German attack. Managed to damage the German, but I am now seen as the main threat in the game and will surely have attackers on me soon.
Late Mid Game(1909-1911)
Turkey is officially doomed. He may be able to hold off Italy for a while, but not for too long. Everyone was calling for a draw by this point(no reason for it that I could see, so I refuse said draw). Austria was out, Germany and Turkey were on their way out. No way was I drawing with more than 3 players in this game. Sure enough by the end of 1911 Germany was down to 1 center and I was about to form the stalemate line with Italy in Southern France. I knew I could not lose anything between the Baltic and MAO, and was at this point almost guaranteed St. P. so I figured I’d try a year or 2 for a Solo, if I got it great, if not, 3 way draw here we go!
End Game(1912-1913)
Germany fell, units in place to take St. P and make a push at either Warsaw or Moscow. I wasn’t sure if this plan to take it(convoying Berlin to Liv and filling armies into Germany) would work, so then my new plan was if I couldn’t Solo, hold out and hope Italy took South Russia for a 2 way… Then in Spring of 1913 it was clear, I had it. St. P fell, and I could use my Silesian army to cut a support from Warsaw and take Moscow with Livonia. That was game.

Good game to all my opponents! I enjoyed it, and it was my biggest win ever :) and possibly my toughest.(also, my apologies for the long post)

Decided to try opening against France for a change, instead of the typical Scandinavia opening as England. Germany opened pro-Russia and got an incredible look from France, and from there it was over. By Spring '02, I had France, Germany, and Russia actively attacking or disrupting me. Hard to win a game that way, and so I crumpled pretty quick. Just had no friends whatsoever, and had nowhere to go but down. /shrug. Grats on the win though!

@ seth, I don't see any perfectly good stalemate there. You had France stopped down in the Med, but the Russian was way short in the number of armies necessary to set up the line to protect Mos/War. The only hope was for you to get armies into Boh, Gal and Ukr, and let him hold armies in War,Mos and Sev. Or possibly he could've taken a center from you to build one army in Sev, but you were the only hope to cover the rest of the line.

Russian should have moved to ukraine a turn or two earlier. But italy could have spared him another build at bulgaria as well.

Ya all Russia had to do was keep him out of Moscow and Warsaw for one more year and I would have been in position, he disbanded F sev in the spring and if he doesn't do that and he moves to ukraine then we would have been able to stop him.

@Seth- he had to disband F St. P, I forced the retreat and no place to retreat too. And to be honest, I saw the stalemate getting set up and new I would have only a matter of a year or so to take it. It was a tough game, and a lot of fun!

Ahh true my fault, I thought he was on the other coast. Still if he had moved to ukraine it would have made it more interesting :) anyway good game and congrats on the solo butter.

haha thanks Seth. indeed it would have been extremely interesting had he set up a stalemate.

Yeah, if he would have moved to Ukraine, you would've had a 50-50 shot.

Shantih, Shantih, Shantih...RIP Valerie Eliot, Wife and Editor of T.S. Eliot
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/13/arts/valerie-eliot-wife-and-editor-of-ts-eliot-dies-at-86.html?_r=0
Sad...she led a great life, and did a lot to look after Eliot's legacy and letters after he died in 1965, and 86 is a great, full life...but it's still sad to know such a long-standing link to the greatest poet and critic in the English language of the last century (and a hero of mine nearly on par with Shakespeare) is gone.

Things that sound so good, that you ignore facts in opposition
The election threads about the Repubs convincing themselves that Romney would win even though the numbers were against them got me thinking of this. List stuff that people love to spout and believe because it makes them feel good about their choices.
