I was reading this the other day (http://www.diplomacy-archive.com/resources/strategy/articles/koniggratz.htm), I can't really understand why anyone would do that. Edi Birsan doesn't go much into why one would go with such a move, so I'm wondering if people have seen or tried it.

Is there any generally accepted timeline for drawing as the 17 sc power when you are completely stalemated? 2 straight years of no territories exchanged was mentioned in a league rules I believe.
For missing the beginning of (and subsequently ruining) multiple live games over the past week or so. Clearly it's a bad idea for me to sign up for them, given that I can never remember that I HAVE. It won't happen again.
I shouldn't have let myself get that far out of position. To make matters worse, I completely misread what I thought was a stalemate in Scandinavia. I screwed that.
@2nd, Why did you not take TYR towards the end? You always had a chance to take and disband TYR and keep TRI but you didn't? Also, the move against SMY - why not try it earlier? I think you needed to be more aggressive while I was being aggressive in England. That was when the momentum was equalibrated a bit. Split got it back, though, and we had no chance.
You couldn't have done anything when we remained in three. The biggest mistake in my opinion was in spring '06 when you let me to Eng.Channel and Mid Atlantic.You needed to let Germany alone at that point,don't you think?
Yes, I agree. I attacked Germany too long, this was my biggest mistake. I disagree that we couldn't have done anything. I think I played my best from there but I think there were missed opportunities to drive you back, but it would have counted on Austria and I almost reading each other's minds.
I think England and Scandinavia can't be defended after the point we remained in three. I could have lost even Munich but even without it I have 19 SC-s guaranted.
I was never going to be able to hold Tyrolia without risking territory in Munich or Trieste, Italy and I were essentially at a stalemate. There was only so much I could do once I attacked him; by that point, he had gotten enough momentum where it wouldn't matter what I did. I did take too long to take Smyrna, that's true. However, at the same time, he was in position the entire time to take Albania, Greece, or Trieste, so I couldn't risk one of those centers in the stalemate line to go after a single center that I would get through attrition.
I got aggressive when I needed to get aggressive, you waited a turn too long to counter Italy's moves into the Channel and the MAO. I'm not sure what else you expected me to do even if I did manage to take and hold Tyrolia.
I could have probably built a fleet or two after I took Rumania the second time and then Sev, but I really didn't want to turn Italy against me, especially when my early position against R/T was so precarious. I also didn't anticipate him getting so big so quickly after France left, which didn't help.

So our Germany, charmingly named "Large Pecker", was banned for cheating. I know nothing further, but the game starts in 18 min and we don't have a Germany, so come on! The game is called Marry You.

gameID=100580 needs a replacement for Germany, who was just banned. It's naturally a relatively good position-- we haven't even done the first move yet! Any replacements would be tremendously appreciated.
