TEST PIE #1...Who is YOUR Recipe Guru???
My daughter (12) and I just put our test Pumpkin Pie in the oven. We are "pie makers" already - it's a family thing (gotta beat Grandma's pie!) Trying a modification to our old recipe based upon hints from America's Test Kitchen. Also a *huge* fan of Alton Brown. Both give scientific reason WHY they do what they do - appeals to the Engineer in me. Who is YOUR favorite recipe source?

Ron Paul wrote, with his name in the by-line, the following:

"I've been told not to talk, but these stooges don't scare me. Threats or no threats, I've laid bare the coming race war in our big cities. The federal-homosexual cover-up on AIDS (my training as a physician helps me see through this one.) The Bohemian Grove--perverted, pagan playground of the powerful. Skull & Bones: the demonic fraternity that includes George Bush and leftist Senator John Kerry, Congress's Mr. New Money. The Israeli lobby, which plays Congress like a cheap harmonica."

"Why would being an OB/GYN influence your moral views on the personhood of infants?"

Because you are aware of the reproductive health issues women deal with and realize the harm that comes from Congress sticking its nose in the busy of what women do with their internal organs.
semck83 (229 D(B))
18 Nov 11 UTC
Oh I see.
Well, first of all, as you are apparently unaware, RP doesn't believe Congress should say anything about abortion: he believes it's a state issue.
Second -- once again, you could be aware of all that and, if you believed fetuses were people, you probably still would be pro life.
Putin33 (111 D)
18 Nov 11 UTC
Except RP has voted for federal laws restricting so-called "partial birth abortion" (a nonsensical propaganda term which the courts have repeatedly struck down for encompassing 2nd trimester and even 1st trimester procedures).

RP doesn't just believe "fetuses" are people, he believes fertilized eggs are people.
semck83 (229 D(B))
18 Nov 11 UTC
Actually, the Supreme Court upheld the partial birth abortion ban. Gonzales v. Carhart: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonzales_v._Carhart

However, you're right, he did vote for that bill, so my language was over-broad. It is only normal abortion that he believes should be left to the states.

"RP doesn't just believe "fetuses" are people, he believes fertilized eggs are people."

Whatever, the point is that his beliefs on that are probably going to trump any pragmatic considerations that his being an OB/GYN would raise.

I can't believe Nelhybel is defending Cain's stupidity with a straight face. Nelhybel is playing us, that's all I can conclude. China is trying to get nuclear weapons. Ubeki beki beki stan stan. The President signs constitutional amendments. His Sim City 4 (9-9-9) tax plan. Cain's bumbling, painful 5 minute long, brain turd on Libya. He carried Yellow flowers. "I started to remember more". Abortion should be illegal and a matter of choice.
Putin33 (111 D)

"Whatever, the point is that his beliefs on that are probably going to trump any pragmatic considerations that his being an OB/GYN would raise."

Only because he's a Christian Reconstructionist. Most OB/GYNs are pro-choice. Paul is a religious extremist.

"Actually, the Supreme Court upheld the partial birth abortion ban. Gonzales v. Carhart: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonzales_v._Carhart"

I stand corrected. I repeatedly underestimate how much of a judicial activist court this Roberts court is. Prior to this ruling, they had struck down partial birth abortion bans several times, the Nebraska law for example. D & X isn't even used in most late term abortions, and in fact is used within 20 weeks in some cases.
semck83 (229 D(B))
18 Nov 11 UTC
Hmm, Christian Reconstructionist? And libertarian? I think not.

Plain Christian is typically sufficient to believe that killing people (or even probable people) is not good.

@ Putin: Dude !! Québec is in Canada, and I was saying that the democrats in the States are too far right for my taste (I likened them to our right wing govt.).

So make that at least 2 Canadians that are not on the right.
Putin33 (111 D)

Touche. Sorry for overlooking you.
Cachimbo (1181 D)
18 Nov 11 UTC
That's okay. The tears have dried up now...
"Why are the Canadians on here so rightwing? Mafia excepted."

I am certainly not right wing. I believe in conservative fiscal policy, but am quite liberal socially. In Canada, I vote for NDP generally since social policies are likely more easy to change than the fiscal ones. Our economy has been pretty consistently governed by the same policies, whereas the social side of things is still progressing.

I don't really see how any contemporary human from western culture could earnestly be opposed to things like gay marriage, abortion, legal marijuana or euthanasia. Etc.
semck83 (229 D(B))
19 Nov 11 UTC
"I don't really see how any contemporary human from western culture could earnestly be opposed to things like ... abortion"

It is that both sides feel exactly this way that makes this such a contentious issue, filled with such angry speech.
