TEST PIE #1...Who is YOUR Recipe Guru???
My daughter (12) and I just put our test Pumpkin Pie in the oven. We are "pie makers" already - it's a family thing (gotta beat Grandma's pie!) Trying a modification to our old recipe based upon hints from America's Test Kitchen. Also a *huge* fan of Alton Brown. Both give scientific reason WHY they do what they do - appeals to the Engineer in me. Who is YOUR favorite recipe source?

@Tom, I'm pretty sure that is posting after a gunboat game goes awry and telling someone off for not having a clue how to play the game and for ruining the gunboat for everyone else.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)

@fedelc, lmao, we complain about cheaters, all the time. But we send those complaints to the moderators. For example http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=72111#gamePanel
(This isn't an actual accusation since they've been banned for cheating, proof they do act on them)

@Lando, for the most part the first replies to these types of threads are pretty civil, it's only once people ignore the "don't post cheating accusations here, email them here" default post by 3 or 4 people that I tend to lose that "general human politeness". Though I do make an exception when there are more then 2 or 3 of the exact same threads on the front page.
Draugnar (0 DX)
19 Nov 11 UTC
@Lando - If I'm the first to respond or am responding to their first message, I try to be polite. By the time I got here, he had already ignored the first round, so I used the abbreviation. My second post actually was more polite, but then after ignoring a mods posting and being told that poster was a mod, he went on his tirade of more proof, so I let him have it.
What did it accomplish?
MichiganMan (5121 D)
19 Nov 11 UTC
What I don't get is why there isn't an easy to find link on everyone's "home" page that says something like, "concerned someone might be cheating? DO NOT post accusations in the FORUM, email the Mods @..."

I have a suspicious game that I'd like to report (I learned my lesson about posting it in here) but I cannot easily find the Mods email where they would like such accusations to be sent.

ps -- Draugnar, you're a d bag and I'd love to see how you treat people in "real life" -- if it is anything like you do in here, I'll bet you have few friend and get your scrawny pimple covered ass kicked A LOT!
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
19 Nov 11 UTC
I dunno Michigan man I heard a rumor that you don't have any respect for your fellow players, and you do resign an aweful lot.
MichiganMan (5121 D)
19 Nov 11 UTC
My point exactly. Draugnar acts like he's the bomb, and decided after a big debate about one's resign rate to take it upon himself to put that his signature. I mean, what kind of childish loser does something like that?!? I tried to explain that sometimes "life gets in the way..." and that wasn't sufficient for Heir Draugnar, the WebDiplo Nazi...probably because he has no life! And did you notice the way he flaunts his ghost rating?!? I mean, could be more insecure?!?
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
19 Nov 11 UTC
Interesting... and how many of those resigns were games you were doing well in? Not too many, I'll wager. Sorry, that's making a big assumption, and correct me if I'm wrong. Anyways it seems to me that CDing a lot will earn you more real hatred and disdain than most anything you say on the forums. I mean, these people still tolerate me and I'm generally fairly unpleasant to talk to.

Draug can be a prick on the forums (love ya D), but I'd much rather play with him than a guy who quits a lot (though actually 10% isn't THAT terrible, is it?)
MichiganMan (5121 D)
19 Nov 11 UTC
I tried to explain this before but it fell upon d bag ears -- maybe you'll be more receptive. Most of my "resigns" came several months ago when my schedule was very different than it is now. I would join a game, thinking that I had time to play, play a few turns, and then "bang" life would get in the way. I've apologize and since learned my lesson about making sure that I have time. Secondly, are games that were "done" or in which there were obvious cheats and and there is no real point in playing any longer. But, to answer your question, yes, there have been times when I am winning and/or doing well and I had to leave.

As I said, I've been very careful about staring games that I cannot finish recently. I was a bit shocked by how aggressive a guy like Draugnar reacted to me, and the venom and hatred (as evidenced by his signature) with which he attacked me for simply making mistakes.

A couple of things I have to say after all you have said:

First, thanks Lando, you stated some of my thoughts very clearly, in a way that I couldn't. I agree with most things you say. And although I don't like some people's attitude here, I can also say there are people who are helpful, friendly and always treat me with respect. I'll just ignore the first and welcome the latter.

Secondly, Draugnar, I admitted breaking the forum rule, so if anything should happen to me for that, it should come from the mods. It could be a warning, a temporary ban or whatever they think is fair. But it should always come with respect. Even if I'm breaking the rules, I shouldn't be insulted by anyone. I tried to treat you with respect. You never showed it back. IF the forum is selfmoderated, it should be done by mods, or at least, people who know how to treat other people. Anyway, I won't go as far as to attack you personally, I still think it is wrong to insult other people for whatever they do on a website.

And Finally, I don't know if I was clear before, but I'm doing all this not because I like to break the rules, or fight with other users, or because i'm a fucktard; I really enjoy playing diplomacy! And playing with guys who cheat really frustrates all players involved. Maybe not everybody does complain, I'm sure some people will just quit playing here. I don't wish to do that. I think the people who are in the wrong are the people who cheat, not the ones who accuse them, even if they break a forum rule, which should always be less important than a game rule.
Draugnar (0 DX)
19 Nov 11 UTC
What you don't seem to get is that your accusation is not proof of cheating. Until proven, the community must treat them as innocent. So in essence your breaking the forum rules was responded to more quickly to protect the reputation of the accused while the mods gathered evidence.

You get caught speeding and you instantly get a ticket. You are suspected of murder and it may take weeks or months or longer until th evidence is collected then the cops arrest you. So your perception that the forum rule violation was being treated as a bigger deal was merely because of the swiftness of the response.

Was that more polite? And does it make sense?

And self moderated doesn't mean moderator intervention. It means the community shames the offender into modifying their ways.

" It means the community shames the offender into modifying their ways"
I'm sorry, I didn't know you were a rehabilitating user! Why do you think you have more rights than me as an user? Only a mod should be able to tell me what to do, and always in a respectful manner. Yes, you could state your opinion, or even tell the mods I'm breaking the rules, but you will never be able to "shame the offender". And if insulting "offenders" is the way you think this will be corrected, then you are clearly wrong. And still, you didn't answer any of my points, you just said whatever you wanted and ignore all that I said. It's great to debate with people like you.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

I dunno fedelc... draugnar is pretty skilled at shaming :P Though I enjoy your plea for mutual respect, this is the internets, yes?
