E-mail updates
Hi all. I'm sure that there is a way to do this and I feel a little silly making a thread to ask, since this is probably a stupid question, but I can't seem to find any information on it. Is there a way to receive email notifications when I've been messaged in-game or when a phase is close to ending? Thanks in advance for any help!

Potential bug
Not really sure what this is but I just finished a game (4-way draw) where one player was in CD. It seems they must have come back right as the game drew because they show up as neither resigned nor draw, but rather as if they are still playing. Its weird.

How do I contact a mod?
I'm in a game where a certain player is stalling the game because we paused it (for another guy who would be away) and when the person got back, we tried to unpause and someone won't unpause it. It's been about a week since we all voted except him.

Persia won't unpause. Does this seem like an appropriate situation to bring in a mod, or should I wait?

Global warming
With unprecedented flooding in Australia, South Africa and Brazil in recent weeks, and a changing of weather patterns, is this not proof its real?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

A couple things:

1) No that doesn't prove it's real
2) It doesn't prove that it's man-made

But, all that is irrelevant. If you think about it, whether or not global warming is real or man-made, it really just makes sense to take care of our planet.
Well said abgemacht

Never said it was man made, but I do agree with your last point, tho I think it's wishful thinking that we'd take care of our planet
orathaic (1009 D(B))

No this isn't proof. The scientific evidence is much more substantial, this is just an example of sligthly more extreme weather patterns which were within predicted boundaries (there are predictions which said things would be worse, and predictions which said things would not be this bad, but it definitely isn't good science to say this is proof, it's no-where near as good as the evidence which has been gathered, and the fact that it agrees with some models doesn't prove them right either - they may still be wrong but they can probably use this evidence to fine tune their models and make better ones...)

wishful thinking? it's a massive movement, like feminism, or marxism, or democracy... movements like this have changed the world before.

"it's a massive movement, like feminism, or marxism, or democracy... movements like this have changed the world before. "
That, unfortunately, is wishful thinking. The scientific evidence gathered by the good old IPCC and used for their models shows nice and clearly that, even after the strongest possible green movement in which global carbon emissions are cut by 80% before the end of 2100 (and there's a snowball's chance in hell of us achieving this, judging by what we've managed so far), global temperatures will still rise by an average of 2 degrees. According to the scientific community, global warming is happening and there is sod all that the environmentalist movement can do about it.

Southern California had record low temperatures all throughout the summer last year. We've just set rainfall records for December last month. A few years ago, we had the second rainiest year in recorded history. If this is caused be Global Warming, I say bring it on - I like Seattle weather.

It's the long term patterns not a year here or there, Not even a decade's worth of atypical weather is prof. Pointing at short term events and saying that means any thing about the long term is foolish and people and groups who have done so often do more harm than good.

Who should be the dictator of the United State of America?
Now that it has been proven in various threads that democracy does not work, and that a dictatorship is the best option, who should it become the supreme commander of the free world? Nominations now open.

Thank you for your continued patience as the games finally start. I am aware that some games have 10 phases. I was forced to increase the phase length because people were unable to join in a timely fashion. Once the games have started, they will be reset to 25 hours. Please do not cancel the games. You'll all just get a little extra diplomacy time the first round.
