The weird ways of Johnny Foreigner
As you travel the world more and more you begin to understand that people from all nations and backgrounds are basically the same. Then, just when you're beginning to feel at one with the society you're visiting, you come face to face with a concept so bizarre and alien it leaves you in a state of open jawed incomprehension. Lets hear some stories of the weird things foreigners do!

What is the most ironic thing ever?
Here's one ironic thing: The creator of Stormfront, a white-supremist (read: idiotic) website has the last name of Black.

How's this for weird?
There's this girl at my high school who screams at the top of the lungs whenever she gets frustrated or stressed out. Sometimes we're just working in class and we suddenly hear screaming, and all the freshman are like, "why isn't anybody doing anything?"

Wow. The New Testament actually spells out in the which commandments we have to obey.
Read Mathew 19: 16-30. And note that when Jesus told the man to sell his possessions, he was actually saying one additional commandment we have to obey: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. The man was putting his possessions before God, that is why Jesus told him to sell everything.

Please Help Science
I am entering the third year of a science research class at my high school and so far I have had limited success with my topic, cryptozoology. I mounted an expedition to find Bigfoot, but came up empty handed. In order to have results to present at competition next year I have shifted the focus of the project and I would really appreciate it if you could take this survey.

The amazing wakner who couldn't resist trying to claim bragging rights for being the biggestest computer software developer on the Net and just had to try to piss on anyone else who had anything relevant to say about computing and how that your expertise led you to regularly being asked by friends to help them install Windows. Really impressive.

Well, where did you go? I'm still here - a few thousand dollars out of pocket because I had to replace my Lisp-based machine but still using the operating system custom designed for it by a real programmer. Go on, tell us all again just how incredibly advanced you are at the game.

The only time you'll ever get close to Lisp is with a speech defect.

Sorry, I'm in rant mode because of our 'Rage' game, and couldn't help but remember the wakner described above. If he doesn't appear, I'll name and shame: I'm in aggressive mode and, quite frankly, I had a reminder today of just how F-ing good the man who wrote the system for me was. Someone who tries to build their credential on Windows-loading experience doesn't even get onto the bottom rung of what is a very tall ladder.

Ah, what the Hell?

NinjaPirateRobotZombie... I am looking at an amazing piece of customised gear + software, written and set up by a true geek and it's been making me money for yonks. I have a very decent glass of wine next to my keyboard and I'm all up for a pee-take of your previous boasts and claims. Please return. Life is dull without you.

And I was never impressed with his claims. There are plenty of real developers on here (myself included) who actually get annoyed by friends and family constantly wanting us to do something as simple as configure Windows 7 every time we turn around. And I've no doubt your associate did a bang up job with the Lisp based system. Lisp is an outstanding language and the second oldest of the true high-level languages.

NPRZ did make a pretty cool diplomacy widget that sat on your desktop and let you know about the phase status if your games. Did anyone else try it out?

Flashman is your operating system unique? As in made just for you or do other people have it too? Is it on the same computer you play diplomacy?

My friend had developed a shell for an AI system when he was working in HK (research, of course) and swore by Lisp. When I had issues with my system and wanted to run some old software on a stable and totally safe environment, he set it up for me. I have never claimed to be able to understand how the system works but it is able to read and run programs written for other systems. Support is very difficult but the system is so stable that this is not an issue. Replacing the hardware has been a bit problematic recently though.

It is all on my work machine and is never put on-line. So, no help with the Dip moves, unfortunately.

What got me going against the Zombie originally was when I had merely mentioned that I had a very unusual system and he started off about me being James Bond Super Spy. Obviously, he thought I was crossing into his turf and tried to make fun of me. I wound him up from then on and sort of miss the fun now... Hence this rather retro thread. And I had been drinking yesterday, and we all know how that gets us going.

So, is the system unique? I think it probably is now because he (friend) is no longer working with Lisp and he finished his Expert System project about twenty years ago. I am too old.

Just curious, you used the word wakner twice. Did you mean wanker? I was assuming it was a typo the first time, but then you did it again. So now I'm wondering just how out of it I am slang-wise, or if it is a common word or slang from another culture.

I was just being extra rude by drawing attention to the word.

Kudos to Russia and Germany in this game. I don't believe I've ever seen a partnership work this well. When you factor in that there was no messaging allowed in this game, their alliance was literally incredible.

Obiwan and the TV Church: Attempting To Understand The People of the Book and Their Point
Well, it's a common criticism of me when I speak at school, on the bus, on this site-iif you're going to criticize the Judeo-Christian Tradition, you HAVE to give it a fair shot first, church and all.
So I'm tuned into "Uplifiting" on Dict TV: All Bible Study and Christian Church programming, all the time! (First observation--Christians can't afford better production values for their Holy Netowrk?) ;)
