What is the policy on sitters?

This is sort of...sad...
Italy betrayed me because I pointed out to him that I couldn't move a fleet from Armenia to Smyrna. Seriously. This is why he betrayed me.

Has anybody read
An interesting look at current and the future of robotics in war. Not so much about the tech as the moral, political, social, legal, chain of command, fighter and civilian morale implications. A must read for anyone interested in the future of war and peace. If you have read the book what are your thoughts.

Help? Mod?
I am trying to join this game. I need 11 D to take over, and I have 60. But, when I click it, it says I don't have enough and I need 11. What the f*** is going on?

Too many points
I think the system keeps adding 100 D to make me up to 100 D even when I don't need them. Maybe I'm just getting extra points for style?

flash version?
I like this game, Diplomacy is great. But the technology is pretty... um... vintage...

Maybe a flash version like http://www.battleforces.com ?

well it's appropriate that the technology is vintage, b/c the game is vintage as well.

Does it adjudicate better?

Does the press get to other players better?

Does it have any options that are really better than this sites'?

Technology is there to get results. If this "vintage" technology delivers, why change it?

I still have to program in Fortran 77 from time to time when I have to touch a legacy system. Ugh. Just thankful I never had to do cobol.

You could add variants here, its just a measure of developer time.

Flash sucks computer resources (and a$$, actually). Plus, it almost never works on mobile devices and if it's poorly implemented doesn't work that great on Mac OS X.

Besides, isn't HTML5 right around the corner? If any changes are wanted/needed, that's probably the way to go.
HTML5 has been "right around the corner" for four of five years -- and it has many significant problems right now which make me think we won't see a completed spec for another couple years at least -- which means several more years of browser incompatibility and partial implementations. Even if it was ready today, it's still quite a stretch to claim that it's a replacement for Flash. (I don't especially like Flash, but the little bit that browsers do support of HTML5 have hideous performance compared to Flash.)

The biggest problem with changes like early-adoption of HTML5 or even the very cool SVG examples in the dev forum are that 90%+ of the world still uses IE, and IE lags in all of these categories.

Given that Kestas is on record stating he isn't comfortable deploying even relatively basic javascript on the client side in the name of maximum compatibility (except where it's unavoidable), I would suspect this whole line of discussion is not likely to gain traction.

I've played at BattleForces and while it's certainly nice looking, I think the UI is pretty clumsy on any of the medium- or large-size maps (I would consider Dip a medium sized map). Such issues could be fixed I suppose, but other than the "pretty" factor it's hard to see what there is to recommend it.

@ingwe: I suppose you think websites and e-commerce and that computer you're reading this on all created themselves? :)

Game won't unpause
Hi there, We're on game 11444 which has been paused for ages since we were all on holiday. Now we're back, we can't unpause - everyone's voted to unpause but it also seems stuck. Is there a delay built in or are we doing something wrong?

New Game - The Iron Curtain
Hear Ye, Hear Ye! Step right up, folks, gather 'round Kids and Generals, 'cuz this is gonna be a hot one! :-) The title is almost self-explanatory. Pot - 20 D. 48hrs per turn. Everyone is welcome, from Noob to Diplomat. The more cunning and demagogue you are - the better! ;-)

how do you disband fleets and armies that you have already created?
I was under the perhaps mistaken impression from reading the rulebook that you could disband your own units at any time (and then build them again at the end of fall, if you control enough supply centers, as usual). is this true, and if so, how do i do it?

if you support a move of an ally, and the ally does not make the intended move, what does it look li
so an ally was going to support the move of the other person's unit, but the other person's unit does not make that move. what does it look like on the board (sorry i am new)?
for example: austria: serbia S bulgaria M rumania
and then turkey does: bulgaria M greece
what does it look like on the board, what evidence is there that austria tried to support a move?

Error, not importent but may cause problems
If you look at the points won for an individual for past games the number is way off. In one of my past games it shows I won 900 or so points for my win. As I have never been above 250 D this is not correct. This is so for all of my past wins. As I said in the title, not a big problem but it could cause some confusion.
