Nazis and Hitler: Go
Please get out all arguments of Nazis and Hilter here. Talk about how they relate to the world climate crisis, or HIV, or moon-units, or why you decided to but Burger King instead of McDonald's last night. Whatever. Use them now and get them out of your system! This topic is for you!

Is it wrong to stab an ally?
In game 6591 I took 4 supply centers of my ally to win the game and now he is complaining that I have screwed him. I did, but is that wrong?

Most difficult long term alliances?
I'm curious which two-way alliances people think are the hardest to maintain long term. They either don't offer enough room for expansion or require that extra bit of trust that's so hard to establish or whatever.

For me the most difficult to maintain seems to be the Italian-Turkish alliance; followed closely by a German-English alliance.

New game: 'First Try on Online Diplomacy', please join!
The subject is very self explanatory, though I have tried playing diplomacy with friends I have never been successful and now I want to try it without the biases that come with knowing your opponent before hand. So, anyone one up for a nice simple game of 25 point buy in?

If the Seven Star Trek Captains played php, who would win?
Simple premise: if the Seven captains in Trek were to sit down and play a game, who would win? Th first five captains are obvious: Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway, and Archer, the captains from the different series. The other two became captains, and were 1st officers: Spock and Riker.

Ending Games
Is it possible to end games were there is an effective stalemate or all players have grown tired of a particular game? In a scenario with 3 players left with 14, 12 and 8 supply points respectively in a PPSC game, where a draw was called, how would the points be divided?

The Map
I know this is just how the game was designed, but is anyone else even a little bothered that the game starts in 1901 but uses 1914 borders? Even just a little?

haha, I thought I was the only one.

Most of Europe was virtually the same border-wise between 1901 and 1914, but the Balkans.... totally changed. Whoa Ottoman Empire.

Being a map guru, it hurts a little bit, but suspension of disbelief works wonders.
Invictus (240 D)
17 Nov 08 UTC
I KNOW! Albania didn't even exist! Turkey would be so much better if real 1901 borders were used. There'd probably have to be an extra Balkan supply center, but could you imagine a Turkish homecenter that could build a fleet in the Adriatic? It'd be a real player.
Centurian (3257 D)

I think the idea is that it actually starts at 1914 but the year 1901 is used for ease of gameplay, so its easy to follow how long it has been.

Yes, it's just used for simplicity.

If you want to pay attention to detail that much, Friendly, you should add Norway to Sweden as well.
EdiBirsan (1469 D(B))

As per the designer, it was strictly for simplicity in counting turns.

If we want to deal with map problems can we deal with the Islands?
Iceland belongs to Clyde... shouldn't it be denmark or norway? Also, there is an island (can't recall its name) that belongs to Livonia on the small map but (accurately) belongs to Sweden. Corsica should be French and Sardinia should be Italian. Perhaps Crete should be Greek as well. Obviously this is just a colour issue but it annoys me a tiny bit.
The thing that gets my goat is how X's only appear for standoffs in the fall for some reason >:(

Centurian, I think the name of the isand is Gotland
Invictus (240 D)
18 Nov 08 UTC
If it starts in 1901 then Crete not changing color is accurate. There was an "independent" Cretan state for a surprisingly long time.

That island by Sweden annoys the hell out of me too. I can see not coloring the Mediterranean islands because then some bozo will think you can invade Naples or Rome from the Western Mediterranean, but that one ought to be changed. I don't know how, and it might be a really complicated computer thing, but that looks like one inaccuracy that can be fixed.

Centurian. I raised that point a while ago and people screamed at me saying that would confuse people. I'm like... geography is pretty straightfoward. But I totally agree.

As to the borders. They are just regions that divide Europe, and the 1901 thing is just for numerical ease of use.

BTW albania did exist in 1914. montenegro did as well, i think it's the only inaccuracy
Invictus (240 D)

Albania didn't exist in 1901. Not independently, at least.

If we're gonna count Montenegro we might as well count Monaco and Andorra and Liechtenstein and Luxembourg and make Switzerland accessible and give England Gibraltar...

Alias Usernames To Keep Games Independent
When a player enters a game, there may be players who know him from previous games. Or they may check his previous games for whether he is a reliable ally or a stabber. I believe this is counter-productive to the idea of having each game stand on its own. Metagaming, or negotiating between games, is frowned upon. Using prior history should be viewed as having an equally negative effect on having a free-standing and independent game.
