The only thing I can think of is something where the only SC they can build at is a DMZ. Anything else?

I need to find a replacement to play the last three games of this group. I did find one, but because the thread has shot off the bottom, with me being a muppet and not noting down the email, it is lost to me.

Unattended retreat ?
What happens if a unit is dislodged and the player misses the retreat phase? Will the adjuicator disband the unit or retreat it? (The reason I ask is I'm playing in a Retreats Disband variant.)

Another rules query
I know that when a unit (A) attacks another (B) it cuts any support that B is offering, whether to a move or a hold. Is this still the case if A is attacked from elsewhere? Does it make any difference if A is dislodged by the attack?

Notice
I decided to start using my real name(Sioraf as Killeens) when playing here and since I can't rename the CJ 92 account I am going to finish the games CJ 92 is in with the CJ 92 account and then let it get removed from the site or whatever then use only the Sioraf as Killeens account. I think this is fair because I have never used both accunts in the same game.

Any Hockey Fans Out There?
Probably not the most appropriate place to be posting this, but are there any hockey fans out there? If so who's your favourite team? Just interesting to find out who pays attention to it around the world...

You're on a global site here mate..... hockey outside North America means field hockey; or are you referring to NHL?

And with a name like that... I thought you'd prefer Hurling to either anyway!!
mapleleaf (0 DX)
23 Oct 08 UTC
I think that the Czechs, Finns, Swedes, Russians, and Slovaks on the site would disagree with you, Bravey. These are all outside of North America.

Mind you, some of those field hockey ladies with the kilts and curved sticks certainly do merit a fan's adulation. So all due respect to them as well.

I am a die hard Toronto Make Believes fan, or is that the Toronto Make Me Laughs.

i have to ask, and not to expose my complete ignorance on this topic, is field hockey the same thing as lacrosse?
Chrispminis (916 D)
23 Oct 08 UTC
Nope. Field hockey is played with frustratingly tiny sticks and causes terrible back problems because of the need to bend over so the stick can reach the ground and hit the ball.

Lacrosse is played with sticks that have little nets on the end and nearly zero rules when it comes to contact. Picture some people trying to throw a ball from a net into another player's little net, while other people beat them viciously with similar sticks with nets. The sizes of nets and length of sticks vary by position.
valoishapsburg (314 D)

Thanks Chris! I had an idea of what Lacrosse was, but absolutely no idea what field hockey was!

wugdiet (100 D)

Leafs? With the Cup?!? I needed a good laugh. The Cups staying at it's home at the Joe.
I think my Habs would have something to say about that wugdiet. And get that Antropov garbage out of my thread Centurian :P.

The Laffs last won the cup when I was five years old. Those on this site who are familiar with me can do the math. It's pretty pathetic.

On a positive note, this year's bunch of kids are pretty exciting to watch. It won't last but at least, for now, it's a nice change.
P.S. yep I'm talking about NHL, and my name refers to my heritage, not my country of birth. As you can probably tell by my inquiry about the NHL in this thread, I was born and raised in Canada.
The Leafs have a very hard-working team this year, and credit should be given to them for that, but probably not enough skill to do much of anything other than to win this year's draft lottery. An unfortunate situation for an admirably hockey crazy city I'm afraid.
Acheron (100 D)
23 Oct 08 UTC
Yeah, the Leafs' last game against Anaheim was an exciting game to watch. No shots against in the third? That's definitely an achievement. We just lack the offensive capabilities to finish the job.

im sorry to break up the Leafs' fan club meeting but im gonna have to say the Stars
Stars are a good team too. Turco played horribly last night though. Guess Brodeur's still got it lol. Either that or Dallas got hardly any shots at all.
Die hard and pained Flyers fan.... We're 0-3-3 this year so far. Woohoo!

If I liked baseball, I'd be loving life right now.

The cup will stay at the Joe this year. :)

@Ireland:
the stars have talent they just cant convert that potential into actual goals and you have to keep in mind that goalies can only save so many shots on goal.

i play hockey and im a goalie and its so much less stressful in net when your teammates score bc you are no longer the only person keeping your team in the game. I play better when im not worried about every shot that comes to me and im sure that the pros experience some of the same situations.

Okay to anyone oposes this your wrong..the NHL is the best hockey league and has the best hockey players in the world. and my fav team is the leafs becuase i live in southern ontario,,they will have a bad team this year for sure...#1 draft pick
Darwyn (1601 D)

"i play hockey and im a goalie"

ME TOO! I totally agree with your statement. Where do you play?

I'm in a fairly competitive beer league. lol...as competitive as beer leagues get that is. Which is actually pretty competitive...we got some Juniors, some college and some semi-pro guys in our league.

I've been playing with the same team for about 13 years now. But we actually suffered one of our worst defeats ever a few days ago. We blew a 3-0 lead and lost 5-4. :( Fukin defense. :)

Anyway, I have an ongoing argument where I posit that hockey goaltending is the hardest position to play in ALL of sports. Whatcha think?

"Colorado Av's will bring the cup home this year. That's right, I said it. "

The Av's? Who are the Av's? :)

As a die-hard Wings fan, I will admit though that Roy is my all-time favorite goalie. I get a lot of flak for that, but how can you dismiss such talent?
Centurian (3257 D)
23 Oct 08 UTC
Well as Roy is retired. I don't really see the Avs making the playoffs nevermind the cup. And seriously, the Leafs blow hard. Not that they aren't awesome and everything.

oh and darwyn the Av's are the Colorado Avalanche long time nemesis of the Dallas Stars

stupid Foote
I play in an intramural league in the university I go to as well. I have been a lifetime blueliner, but I just switched to left wing cause I thought it might be a little more fun. Speaking of Roy, he's having his number retired this year at the Bell Centre! As for the Leafs game against Anaheim, don't know what Wilson was thinking, you should never put a cold goalie in for a shootout. Something like 1 out of 9 shots taken against cold goalies in the shootout have gone in. Altogether a dumb move.

"oh and darwyn the Av's are the Colorado Avalanche long time nemesis of the Dallas Stars"

Hmm.... A 13 year old team and a 16 year old team. Not a 'long time' as rivalries go. And while the 'franchise' may have been older and relocated, since the players and most importantly the fan base changed, the rivalry doesn't really carry over from Quebec and Minnesota.

more than a couple years can be considered long time

and for as far as i can remember(even though i have learned otherwise) it was always Stars and Avs
Centurian (3257 D)
23 Oct 08 UTC
Those years are just those teams in their current locations. The stars came into the league in 1968 just in Minnesota
Darwyn (1601 D)
23 Oct 08 UTC
I think the Wings-Avs rivalry was one of the more exciting ones in recent history.
Not too recent, the Avs have had a mediocre team in the last few seasons, and as much as I hate to admit it, the Wings have been dominant in the last few years. Not to mention there is far more animosity between say Colorado and Vancouver instead, since that is a bitter divisional rivalry.

Let the beer and and wine flow.
I have question for are European friends and other persons living in nations that are more open with alcohol "for human consumption". Paticularly age limits. The U.S. as you know has long history of proabition and that has caused more harm than good. Is alcoholism, drunk driving and etc as much a problem there as it is here?

Attention! All games where someone has gone into CD with 0 supply centres report in!
Lets imagine it... your in the middle of an exciting game and you've technically just eliminated someone, but they are too chicken to finalize that last retreat or destroy order. These games are free to take over, so im on a personal mission to take over these unwanted positions and finalize that final order. I know this will add to my number of losses (will it?), but im feeling nice and everyone wants these games to move on.
