Karl Marx's predictions about wages
If I under correctly Karl Marx predicted that workers wages would fall, over time, until the workers would have no choice but to overthrow the system. Can anyone tell in which book/essay he actually made this prediction?

What I don't like about Diplomacy
Is that this is a zero-sum game. In order to win, you have to make other players lose. I, as an entrepreneur, libertarian and capitalist, find it particularly hard to see the behavior of people when they think they are playing a zero-sum game. Maybe this is why I take human behavior in the game so hard.

Is Beast Coast still alive, or did it die long ago?
Or is it just now making it's way out the door. Flatbush Zombies released their first main album on the 11th, so that's why I'm asking.

Voting Strategy
With the current political landscape, I am facing the very real possibility of the two main candidates being, in my opinion, pretty awful. I have had numerous discussions with friends over the strategy, but I bring it to you. Is it worth it to vote on principle? Should I vote third party if I think they are the best candidate? Or do I vote for the lesser of two evils among the big two?

Anybody up for a Low-Stakes Live Game in like an hour?
Hi!
Just wondering if anybody would be up for a low stakes live game starting in like an hour.
I'm thinking a bet of 10 and 15 minute phases?

not ready setting
Hello, I'm a newbie here. I am curious. If I put in some orders, save them and click the ready button, my orders are in and everything is great. Later, I go and click not ready. My previous orders were in and now I am changing some of them. I fail to clock watch and the time to make my moves expires. Does the software progress with my first set of orders? Or does the software cause my power to go into Civil Disorder.

The "Won't Hit Ready" Sportsmanship Move
What are thoughts on people not readying up when the game doesn't go their way?
JEccles (421 D)
14 Mar 16 UTC
Like when everyone else has clearly hit ready, but you were recently stabbed and the game is getting away from you. So you decide that you just won't hit ready and make everyone wait out the full phase instead of progressing the game along.

This has been happening for a while in a game I'm in, and I'm just curious how people view this. Is this something that's just accepted because of the style of the game, or is this bad form?
krellin (80 DX)
14 Mar 16 UTC
Whether or not it is bad form is irrelevant. The games are established with a set time frame and all players, by rule, are allowed to utilize the full time allotted.

An argument can be made that particularly in a "recently stabbed, game is getting away from me" scenario I may want to take the full duration of the time allotted in order to set up new deals and regain control. You know, when you have go purchase those extra-special chaps so that you can become Russia's bitch and last until the end of the game as his sexy man-servant, sometimes that takes time.
JEccles (421 D)
14 Mar 16 UTC
Haha that makes complete sense krellin. I just wondered what the thoughts were on it from everyone here, I understand that the game is set up and the time slot is the time slot. Just curious how it's viewed in the gaming sense (and outside the literal one I suppose).
KingCyrus (511 D)

Sometimes it is just based on my schedule. I like games that finish when I am free, say around 10 PM my time. So, if I get a game so the turns finish at that time, I won't ready so it always stays that way.

Nothing wrong with not readying. If your motive is just to piss off people, that's accepted but bitchy.

From what you say there's no guarantee that that's the case though.

Now what KC does would annoy me :-)
JEccles (421 D)
14 Mar 16 UTC
steephie22, I'm pretty sure it's for the reason of just being a total nuisance and getting back at everyone. They fell hard and fast and over the last 3 moves have gone down to 3 SC's, and it's going to be down to 1 SC after the next move. I think they are just doing it to spite, because they always readied up quickly when the game was going their way.
Patburu (0 DX)
14 Mar 16 UTC
It might be bad form, but I can't fault them. I'm in one game where everyone is readying fairly quickly (18 hour turns, but turns are progressing after 8 hours or so. I'm not readying until everyone else has because I like to check my moves, hit ready, refresh, and set up moves for that turn immediately. Just a preference that particular game is allowing me.

In your case, whether he's trying to sell himself as a vassal or just hoping someone will nmr or enter the wrong moves, it's a strategy I can't fault them for, though it's infuriating when you see your solo and have to wait to find out if everything worked out.

Usually if I've just been stabbed, I need the full turn to try to salvage the situation.

No offense Jeccles, but on the rare occasions when I employ this strategy (for strategy it is) , it serves as a bargaining chip I'm trying to hold over one or two remaining players.

What I've noticed is that the small percentage of people who get really bent out of shape by this are typically the very people who ought to be cutting a deal.

If this is causing an issue for you, I'd like to suggest...

* That if time is of the essence, perhaps you should cut the person a deal to expedite the game.
* If you're not worried about time, perhaps you should simply wait it out.

What if it's a gunboat?
No reason to delay there except for pissing everybody off
Hapapop (725 D)

I've used it in a gun boat to effectively double ,y time if I know I'm going to be busy. Enter moves at the start of the period, hit save, and know that I e got 48 hours to enter the next turns moves. 24 hours for this turn, 24 for the next turn. If I have time available after that, I'll ready up if everyone else has.

@pahla,

Good point, didn't think of that.

I have been waiting it out and haven't said anything in the global cause it's perfectly fine if the person wants to do that. I don't have a major problem with it, just curious what everyone else feels with this kind of strategy, and the different reasons behind it.

I hate it when it's a 5/7 min gunboat and can live with it in longer games or if the person admits it's deliberate. Find it to be a viable last-resort tactic - although a lousy one IMHO

Taunt
wouldn't it be great if a troop as its turn could taunt? It would create so much salt. It would do nothing but change its appearance for that turn. I know taunting could be done in global, but still it would be fun.

More Than, or less than?
My mom is creating a recipe book that is going to be published, and she came to a point where she didn't know weather to capitalize as part of the title: "More Than, or Less Than" or not "more than, or less than"
Which way do you guys think is right?

RECLAIM THE NIGHT
Women should feel and be safe walking in the streets every day and night. Sadly, this just isn't the case, all across the world. But once a year UK feminist groups hold a Reclaim the Night march across our cities. Tonight is that night, reclaiming the night for our mums, sisters, daughters, family and friends that just happen to be women.

Roman's never recorded anyone named Jesus being crucified
For an empire which was renowned for record keeping; it always struck me as odd that nobody named Jesus was ever Crucified. I asked my Mormon girlfriend once and they told me it was because Romans were afraid to let the truth get out that they had killed the son of God.

I Demand a Refund
I paid for a car wash after I got gas at Shell this evening but their wash was out of service. I asked for a refund and was told that it wasn't their fault that the wash was closed and that I should come back some other time when it's open and use the code then.

I'm curious to see what other stupid things you all should but can't get a refund for because of jackass cashiers.
