Waterways in Fall of the Amercian Empire IV
Playing this variant for the first time and wonder if it is possible in one move to move a fleet from Deep South to Chicago. If this were to work, moving out to Lake Michigan is not possible I assume. Thank you!

Chris Christie endorses Taco Bell combo meal #4 for Presidency.
Chris Christie: *crunch* The ground beef just really sets it off plus taco aligns well with my stance on Dodd Frank and Gay marriage.

What happens if two players get to 18 in the same turn?
Does it 2 way draw? Or keep going?

opinions;
so you have an excellent ally and didnt plan to stab this turn but your ally has 8 hours left to input orders hasn't spoke to you and looks like he might NMR. do you assume the worst and attack or hope for best and not attack? also assume you will be IRL busy the rest of the game an unable to change your decision if he does return.
Zybodia (355 D)

Eight hours is a lot of time. I could see stabbing if it would be a reasonable tactical choice anyway, but I would never bank on an NMR that far out.
If strategically attacking him anyways is a good idea, then it shouldn't matter if he might NMR or not. Sure, it would be an advantage, but don't count on it. If it's not a good plan to start a war against him as well at this time, i would suggest not to do it.

The last time an ally of mine NMR'd, I defended his territory from opportunistic neighbors instead of prematurely stabbing. It solidified his trust in the alliance, limited gains made by my foes, and made it more likely that my future stab would succeed.

Of course, that was when I was online with minutes to go before turn. I wouldn't make any assumptions 8 hours out.
A_Tin_Can (2234 D)

I wouldn't assume someone is going to NMR with 1 hour to go, let alone 8.

That said, if I think someone is going to NMR, it would depend on how devastating that NMR is going to be. If it's not going to be possible for our alliance to recover from their NMR, of course I'm in the market for a new one.

With 8 hours to go, I'll make some (reasonable!) assumptions about what our moves should be together, tell my ally my moves and that I won't be on until after the phase change, and then log off happily.

8 hours? No, maybe like 8 minutes...
Hastati (100 D)

While I'm the sort to make sure I at least have placeholder orders in as soon as I log in, anything short of sub 60 min to me could easily just be someone who is still negotiating.

You have to remember that multiple time zones play this game mate - 8 hours an indicator of impending NMR? lol ummm no.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
27 Feb 16 UTC
Well depending on timezones, if you know what timezone they are on, and say, they've gone out drinking after work; 8 hours may well be more than enough to predict a NMR...

Okay now what if the lack of communication and orders is uncharacteristic of the player through the last 10 + turns?
Lethologica (203 D)
27 Feb 16 UTC
"What if the circumstances happen to be exactly the same as in this one game I'm playing?" I dunno, use your judgment. You've been playing these opponents for 10+ turns, you should have a better read on them than any abstract generalizations we can toss out.

I mean, I assume you used your judgment, since it's been 8 hours. Either it worked out or it didn't. Either way, you learned something. Right?
Hyperion (983 D)

The remaining time and whether there is an order input are just a few of the factors that conclude to the moves you make. The other factors being current troop placements between players, SCs, and negotiation/communication. A lot of times your choices will be made based on which of these factors you prioritize higher. A lot of times you can make negotiation-proof moves based on troop placement allowing you to continue increasing your number of SCs.

Imho, I wouldn't prioritize my moves based on the remaining time and whether there is an order input from the players. The biggest factors that should decide your move is the feeling you get from negotiations and current troop placement. Sure, exploiting NMRs is great, but it's just such a hassle to be doing that micromanagement. A good diplomacy player should be always making moves that increase their power in the eyes of the other player and that doesn't require exploitation or making the right moves to avoid crisis. The good player will always be increasing their position regardless of the surrounding players.

Looked around the web and can't seem to find one, is there a module for the jDip client for Fall of the American Empire? I have a forum that's doing play by post and we're seeing which variants we can use.

Email Notifications??
Is it not possible to have email notifications when game begins, messages are received, orders are processed etc? After playing a few games I wonder how much time I have spent checking my phone or computer to see if orders have been processed or I've received any messages.

Europe through History....
Came across this link, apologies as its via facebook but couldn't find it anywhere else. https://www.facebook.com/mark.delvecchio.7/videos/941931915903515/

Quite an interesting demonstration of how Europe boundaries altered and made me think it might be quite fun to do a similar time lapse of a Diplomacy game if anyone was bored....
