NHL Playoffs Tracker--16 Teams Questing for 16 Wins--and the Stanley Cup!
It took until the last day of the season, but the NHL playoffs are SET. First round match-ups: in the EAST...Senators/Canadiens, Lightning Red/Wings, Rangers/Penguins, Capitals/Islanders...in the WEST...Ducks/Jets Blues/Wild, Blackhawks/Wild, Canucks/Flames. (Out of the playoffs...the Bruins and--YES! --the Kings, mwuahahahaha!) So, while everyone picks against my Ducks (I'm sure), we'll track the playoffs here...guesses now--who hoists Lord Stanley's Cup?

Censorship
While I violently disagree with everything YJ says about Christianity, I am aghast that we have gotten to the point now where somebody who raises substantive concerns about my religion, even if in a mocking way, will be censored.

Can Jet Fuel Melt Steel Beams?
Can it? I'm genuinely curious.

I've seen some claims that it can't, and I think this could seriously undermine the official narrative.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
20 Apr 15 UTC
Issues with testing this include the variables. How would altitude, force of gravity, and variable damage effect the temperature at which steel would melt.
pangloss (363 D)
20 Apr 15 UTC
OK, but is there a ballpark we can look at? How variable is the melting temperature of steel beams?
AR47 (100 DX)
20 Apr 15 UTC
The truth is that steel can't melt as it is a metal. Use your head sheeple, things like physics and materials chemistry are obviously controlled by the government military industrial complex. You can't trust any of their' facts' or 'science'.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
20 Apr 15 UTC
I agree you could ballpark but to base such a serious claim on ballparks would just end up getting swept into the conspiracy pile. You would need hard undisputed numbers. Or a range that is no where near to possible.
pangloss (363 D)
20 Apr 15 UTC
All right, if there is a wide range of possibilities, couldn't one of them be that there was a controlled demolition?
Tolstoy (1962 D)

Steel beams can lose their strength and rigidity without melting. Add several thousand tons of building and the loss of crucial support structures from (say) an airplane impact, and official narratives aren't necessarily undermined. On this point, anyways.

AHHHHH THAT IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED STOP THAT DAMN CONSPIRACY

the fact that (A) the planes smashed through mos of the steel, (B) the steel was heated, thus making it more malleable -though not 'melting'- and (C) the idiotic choice to make drywall even slightly load-bearing was what brought those towers down.

also the radicalized muslims...
pangloss (363 D)

But there were pools of melted steel on the pavement afterwards, no? If jet fuel can't melt steel beams, why would those even be there?

I'm sorry, are you persecuting muslins too now you shitlord? Your racist, cis-hetero attitudes disgust me and have set America back 200 years already.
Marlen (20 DX)
20 Apr 15 UTC
Like Tolstoy said, the current cable news theory says that the beams did not melt (which is clearly impossible). Although there is video of it coming out of the buildings... ah well they messed up the anthrax part of it after it was traced back to a US military strain and they messed up that flight that was went down in the field instead of hitting building 7... so I guess they figure a few mess ups won't hurt. And with some people, particularly those in the baby boomer generation (most propagandized people of all time) even with those messups they remained government believers.

"(C) the idiotic choice to make drywall even slightly load-bearing was what brought those towers down."

Wow. I've never heard this before. Do you have a source for it? Not questioning, just curious and a quick google search yielded nothing on the matter.

from CommanderByron (a PM): I apologize I am in no way supporting the idiots I enjoy watching the fight yes, but I do not support their sentiments. To be honest that comment was to get information out of AR so that I could expedite the mods process of banning. If he outright admitted to me he was a multi then they wouldn't have to do much looking. I needed to earn trust.

First of all I am upset at the secret police tactics you are using on AR47. If we are talking about who the real monster is, I think you've taken first place.

Secondly, how fucking dare you try to PM me, hmm? Couldn't you just say it in the thread like other people. Do you think that because I am a girl I need to be told gently and in private because it's too much for me to handle in public?! Moreover the fact that you can't even say something like, "I'm sorry" to me in public obviously shows that you aren't even being sincere.

Typical male privilege. Don't coddle me!
pangloss (363 D)
20 Apr 15 UTC
Marlen, I'm unclear on what you're saying. However, I think I agree with the idea that these old-time baby-boomers will believe the government narrative more readily.

@Tolstoy and JamesYanik, I'm also curious about using drywall as load-bearing. That seems to be a silly choice to me.

"OK, but is there a ballpark we can look at? How variable is the melting temperature of steel beams?"

This is a bad idea. Ballparks are extremely expensive, and all the major ones are either in use or soon to be in use by college or professional teams. I think there must be a better place to experiment with melting steel beams.

Are you one of those 9/11 believers?

Whether you believe in the current government theory (as evolved from the initial 9/11 commission theory) or not, you have to admit that molten steel is probably not the biggest threat to people's belief in it. Sure to someone who has a critical mind it is strong evidence, but most people do not - so other things like announcing a building had fallen before it had or things like that will convince them more.

But how did we even get into 9/11 here, what happened to Oklahoma City? That coverup was hilarious. You have damage that is physically impossible to have come from some theorized truck bomb - the physics of that are just as impossible as the physics on 9/11, but that one is more timely.

YA, really? Clearly if he had to apologize, you PMed him first letting him know what he needed to apologize first. Secondly, if he's trying to catch a multi, then he's not going to announce on the forums an accusation! Thirdly, WHAT THE FUCK DOES IT HAVE LITERALLY ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR GENDER!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Octavious (2802 D)

What you have to bear in mind is that the Twin Towers, being extremely tall buildings, are closer to the Sun and as such have a far higher ambient temperature. The air pressure is s also far lower, meaning the melting point of steel is much reduced (the same phenomena that makes water boil at 40 degrees Celsius on Mt Everest).

Mathematical models have shown that the combination of these two factors mean that skyscrapers over a critical height may melt spontaneously if it were not for the cooling effect of the strong winds at high altitudes. Fortunately the odds of the wind falling to a sufficient speed for long enough for this to happen is over 500000-1
I dont like those odds

Just a thought
I was sitting in my bed tonight contemplating life and had a thought. Right now thousands of people are standing in protest to police brutality while thousands more stand in defense of the officers in question; will the end of this be a lone wolf terrorist act which kills dozens possibly hundreds of innocent people?

Ideal Urban Planning
I was recently reading about some of the idealized urban planning by various authors, such as Fourier, More, Howard, and I read that two cities in England were modeled after Howard's cities outlined in Garden Cities of Tomorrow. Have any of our members in the UK visited or lived in Letchworth or Welwyn? Are these cities models to be followed, or is this just hype?
