NHL Playoffs Tracker--16 Teams Questing for 16 Wins--and the Stanley Cup!
It took until the last day of the season, but the NHL playoffs are SET. First round match-ups: in the EAST...Senators/Canadiens, Lightning Red/Wings, Rangers/Penguins, Capitals/Islanders...in the WEST...Ducks/Jets Blues/Wild, Blackhawks/Wild, Canucks/Flames. (Out of the playoffs...the Bruins and--YES! --the Kings, mwuahahahaha!) So, while everyone picks against my Ducks (I'm sure), we'll track the playoffs here...guesses now--who hoists Lord Stanley's Cup?

Just a thought
I was sitting in my bed tonight contemplating life and had a thought. Right now thousands of people are standing in protest to police brutality while thousands more stand in defense of the officers in question; will the end of this be a lone wolf terrorist act which kills dozens possibly hundreds of innocent people?

Ideal Urban Planning
I was recently reading about some of the idealized urban planning by various authors, such as Fourier, More, Howard, and I read that two cities in England were modeled after Howard's cities outlined in Garden Cities of Tomorrow. Have any of our members in the UK visited or lived in Letchworth or Welwyn? Are these cities models to be followed, or is this just hype?

Urgent news from developers!
My sources tell me that a new update to the game is coming. If you win a match you will then be sent the addresses of all the losers. Then the winner goes over to the losers house and tickles them until somebody climaxes. My body is excited, is yours?

Where do I start:

"Urgent news from developers!"
Please do not impersonate a mod, admin, or dev

"Then the winner goes over to the losers house and tickles them until somebody climaxes."
Please do not encourage things that fall under the legal definition of sexual assault

"My body is excited, is yours?"
Leave sexual details out of forum OP's.

Please employ common sense going forward when deciding how to make a joke thread.

My client TMP is not breaching any site rules with his references to tickling. I do not dismiss the claim that he shouldn't have posed as a member of the dev team but to target him for mildly sexual language when an entire conversation about rape was allowed. When multiple sexual innuendos have gone without punishment is inherently abusive of the very flexible rules that the site has adopted. I am in favor of the censorship of hate speech and other unnecessarily violent threads; but to demand that TMP cease his harmless sexual innuendos involving tickling is not justified. I have seen conversations about a waitresses breasts and other topics which have gone on. I think that in this case jmo (who I respect wholeheartedly) has, possibly unintentionally, allowed his personal preferences to appear as official moderator opinion and this should be clarified. Further if the mod team takes further action against my client regarding his references to tickling I will expect a precedent to be set that other sexual innuendos also be silenced. I will email the mod team about every single innuendo I see; I will expect equal or greater response to what my client receives.

Speaking of developing - I want to start some kind of project. Who else wants to? I can probably put in 10 hours a week. It would be nice if I could work with a few people, start something completely new, and come out with something complete in a month or two.

But I do not even know where to start. Seems like most things I see involve joining some huge established open source project and being an insignificant cog in the wheel adding very little of value.

@CommanderByron,If you have read our rules you'd know that "Appeals made on behalf of other members will not be considered."

Please go read them now to avoid wasting further time in the future.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
17 Apr 15 UTC
@bo- I understand that his OP was wrong for various reasons but I am debating that his innuendos about tickling are not a justified wrong in this case and that an official mod should not be telling a new player (who does not understand that mods are also players who have their own opinions) that he must cease his innuendos based on "site rules" that that same mod wouldn't have enforced in other cases. In THIS case TMP is not legally wrong to reference tickling with minor sexual innuendos; he IS wrong for posing as a developer, and for (while accidentally) leaving open the possibility of other new players sending him their addresses. But being that he is a new player action should be limited to a verbal warning and locking this thread. Of course my complaint lies in the unofficial mod response which I believe delivers a unfair and unfounded restriction on a new player without him being aware of the rules that the site has.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
17 Apr 15 UTC
@jmo- I have read the rules and it wasn't an appeal it was me pointing out a reality and hoping that you or another mod would see that reality and agree with me.

It seems to me CB is really asking for a Terms of Service button click where each new user affirms they abide by the ToS and site rules. No ambiguity there.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
17 Apr 15 UTC
New users are directed to the rules upon registering an account as far as I know. Obviously, I haven't tested this theory... since 2011 :D
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
18 Apr 15 UTC
@jeff- I do think that could solve some issues, but I am also standing in defense of a new user to ensure he incurs no punishment... I would think that the site and community would see that and agree that protecting this new member is important for keeping up the growth of our dwindling forum community.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
18 Apr 15 UTC
(+1)
@CommanderByron, if we were going punish this user we wouldn't have posted a forum warning, we would have punished him. You "standing in defense" only wastes time.

In another note, the forum is actually a very non-important and non-representative part of our site. It is used by a very small percentage of our members. The question you should be asking yourself is why is it that an overwhelmingly large percentage of our members have never used the forum (ever). Is it because we stop some trolling and inappropriate behavior, or is it because we don't stop enough of it?

So should we be focusing on protecting trolls, or should we be focusing on making the forum more welcoming to the massive majority who currently avoid it.

Just food for thought.

P.S. I don't know where you got your statistics, but the forum community isn't dwindling based on number of posters, total posts per month, or anything else I can see that might lead anyone to that conclusion.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
18 Apr 15 UTC
@Jmo- when I say dwindling i think I mean in percentage. we have seen an increase in users but not a very sharp increase in forum activity. I do think the activity has gotten better based on the actions of the mod team (I did say I respect you and the team wholeheartedly in an earlier post) your forum warning just used language that made me think that more serious action was pending. which while none of my business technically, I took upon myself to stand in defense of someone else. I think I also mean to bring up a reality that the forum rules are sometimes unclear especially for new users. If I were a new user whop joined in February and read through bits of the forum i would not think that innuendos using tickling as a backbone would be against the site rules. I would see countless examples of sexual innuendos and foul language and think that my little joke was no where near as harsh as those other users comments. While i agree with flexibility for the purposes of enforcement I do also acknowledge the usefulness of a simple list of unaccepted topics or words. many very successful sites employ this method, and while not direct censorship these small constraints remove the fog that currently encircles the forum. I know that as a new user I was afraid to join the forum for the following reasons:
- I wasn't sure what was acceptable to talk about and so while i could have joined as a non-troll I wasn't sure how much trolls could say to me before they crossed the line; imagine if i told you you could get into a wrestling ring with a 9 foot tall 400 pound MMA expert and he would fight you with limitations. You wouldn't get in the ring without knowing the limitations.

- I saw a vibrant and personal community that like a middle school clique seemed very closed off.

- I was confused about many of the localized language that surrounds diplomacy. (FTF, WTA, PPSC, GB, GR)

I think that if the forum is to grow (which while you may not see as a important part of the site, it is a very effective tool for getting players hooked and involved. It provides an area for diplomacy discussion and while the dip discussion is often limited when a dip topic does arise there are more people willing to speak because they have become comfortable via other topics) then the above should be tackled. I think a simple intro P.P of some kind would help. many players would choose to read it out of curiosity.
