NHL Playoffs Tracker--16 Teams Questing for 16 Wins--and the Stanley Cup!
It took until the last day of the season, but the NHL playoffs are SET. First round match-ups: in the EAST...Senators/Canadiens, Lightning Red/Wings, Rangers/Penguins, Capitals/Islanders...in the WEST...Ducks/Jets Blues/Wild, Blackhawks/Wild, Canucks/Flames. (Out of the playoffs...the Bruins and--YES! --the Kings, mwuahahahaha!) So, while everyone picks against my Ducks (I'm sure), we'll track the playoffs here...guesses now--who hoists Lord Stanley's Cup?

Censorship
While I violently disagree with everything YJ says about Christianity, I am aghast that we have gotten to the point now where somebody who raises substantive concerns about my religion, even if in a mocking way, will be censored.

Just a thought
I was sitting in my bed tonight contemplating life and had a thought. Right now thousands of people are standing in protest to police brutality while thousands more stand in defense of the officers in question; will the end of this be a lone wolf terrorist act which kills dozens possibly hundreds of innocent people?

Ideal Urban Planning
I was recently reading about some of the idealized urban planning by various authors, such as Fourier, More, Howard, and I read that two cities in England were modeled after Howard's cities outlined in Garden Cities of Tomorrow. Have any of our members in the UK visited or lived in Letchworth or Welwyn? Are these cities models to be followed, or is this just hype?

Fairfax, my understanding is that the people who used to both have the knowledge and spend the time to run it consistently have since left the project or the site. We have enough knowledge and time (#praiseATC) to still run overall ratings roughly on time. The important thing to know is that there is active work on incorporating GR into the sites code, so it can be automatic and native, somewhat like RR for example. that's my understanding of the current state of affairs
This close to top 50.

Do limited press and variant map games count in Ghost-Rating?

Both these types of variants count, however they are weighted down to take into account that they are often less well balanced etc.
ghug (5068 D(B))
16 Apr 15 UTC
Actually, the ten-player variants may still be uncounted.
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
16 Apr 15 UTC
@ghug Yes, that's true. I mostly posted that in response to gunboats having a lower effect than expected.

Boo!

I know near enough how the gunboat list was done, but never liked/approved of it, because it was a terrible representation of skill in gunboat (not enough data).

Ghug - If you or ATC know the discount factors for public press, GB, PPSC and the variants I can work on replicating GR by category. I've got Classic, non-Live, FP, WTA category coded and working basically (I want to do a little more testing but it's mapping pretty closely to what the old lists by category have for that one). For all the others I need to know what value replaces the 1/17.5 factor in the formulas.

Trying to open the April '15 link from the Ghost-Ratings site results in "No permissions". I can open the previous file.
ghug (5068 D(B))
16 Apr 15 UTC
@Yale, Variants file.csv in the folder I sent you before has the factors for everything but the two new variants.

You can add the following rows to include America and Modern (the 3 is arbitrary, but it makes the most sense in the context of the others if we're sticking to integers):
20,American,58,34,10,3,1
19,Modern,64,33,10,3,1

@jbalcorn, I'm not having that issue even when I'm logged out of everything. Can anyone else confirm?
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
16 Apr 15 UTC
@ghug link works fine for me.
Yaleunc (11052 D(B))
16 Apr 15 UTC
Link works fine for me too. As for the info in the variants file, what does 3 mean in terms of the V factor? The factor for Classic is 17.5 (or really 1/17.5). Gunboat is listed with a 4 in the variants file, does that mean we use 1/(4*17.5) for gunboat? And World also has a 4 in the file, so would a World Gunboat be worth 1/16th as much as a full press Classic in terms of V factor?
ghug (5068 D(B))
16 Apr 15 UTC
I believe that's how it works, yeah. Standard GR does it the same way, so you can confirm with that script or I can do it when I get home or maybe TGM can confirm it now.
Yaleunc (11052 D(B))
16 Apr 15 UTC
Okay. Four seems high for GB to me, especially since Public Press is only 2, but I'll see if I can get it to replicate the old scores using those factors. Basically this is saying a solo in a GB Classic against 6 opponents only boosts your rating 1/4 as much as a solo against those same 6 opponents in FP. Ten points instead of forty if all 7 players are equally matched for example.
ghug (5068 D(B))
16 Apr 15 UTC
Yeah, there are problems with GR, which is why we're looking to overhaul it entirely when we integrate a rating system. In the meantime, changing the scaling after it's been done this way for four years without making any other changes is probably not the best thing to do.

I think gunboat as a standalone category just used 17.5, but I'm not sure about that.
Hazel-Rah (1262 D)
16 Apr 15 UTC
3 games played in March (all gunboat), 3 solo victories. GR went up less than 20 D. So the competition may not have been the greatest, but damn... I had visions of rocketing up into the top 50!
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
16 Apr 15 UTC
(+1)
two of those three wins were PPSC, and GR, like webdip points and God's forgiveness, are significantly reduced in PPSC.
Hazel-Rah (1262 D)
16 Apr 15 UTC
Yes, PPSC gunboats are an abomination. Still, a win is a win. I knew my GR wasn't going to go up to 350 or anything, but I was surprised how little the reward actually turned out to be.

Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
18 Apr 15 UTC
If people show interest, don't let that fact stop you. But it might explain why there's not a huge clamor. Especially with Leagues and ODC ongoing. The 2015 MAR GRC was the first one since the 2014 OCT GRC, and there was still a board or two not done from the latter! My point is that it's not traditionally done every month.
Hamilton Brian (811 D(B))
18 Apr 15 UTC
Gotcha! I'll stop with the Bob Dylan lyric-riffing, too. I just think this is my first year on the site where I've been into Leagues, and GR games, etc, so it is damn fun. Perhaps tomorrow I'll look at interest in an April GR set.
