It's not about that, Jeff. It's about integrity. If something happens where you have an unnatural advantage in the game, the only right thing to do is draw or cancel.

There's no "right" in Diplomacy, generally.

@YHN There's plenty of things that are right in Diplomacy. You wouldn't mess with someone's orders in the box of a live game, you wouldn't break the site rules, why do we have to just throw our hands up at multiple CD's in live games?

Sorry this happened xpedior. It's a real stupid time. Made extra stupid that it seems your Germany doesn't understand the game, WTA on webDip, or decency.

He's ruined one of my games as well (gameID=150055), and seems to exist (I'm sure honestly and not maliciously per se) to give his infinitely-replenishing starting 100 to unscrupulous live game players.

Hopefully we see more 101 point live games in the future.

Both of my statements are directed at people who leave games early for whatever reason and at whatever game state. There is no hypocrisy at all. If you can't deal with the expected fuck-ups in such a game, don't play them.

Fair enough, Valis, but I'm also of the mind that things like NMRs don't need to be too much more unbalancing than the inherent inequities among the different countries. The west was handed a stacked deck, but they still could've reacted in concert to contain Turkey. NMRs and CDs are a pain in the ass, and I generally am in favor of canceling or drawing when they come up, but I also think everyone else has a responsibility to play as though that cancellation or draw is not forthcoming. And we don't see that here, obviously.

I think part of the problem, and this was impart mine when I first started out on this site, is that most people don't fathom that they're ruining a game for others. It's more of a selfish, I lost so I can start again kinda thing. They are not playing at a table with their friends, they're playing with some names on a screen.
Maybe, when one signs up for an account there should be a brief statement so that people can understand how seriously things are taken around here and what it means to be a good sport.
Also, don't let new players into live games right away might help as well.

I'm just confused because no one in this conversation performed the action you're talking about. It's barely possible with no Italy or France or Austria. It's pretty much impossible when Russia leaves after a couple years. Not to mention it's literally impossible when one Germany doesn't understand WTA.

I've played, and even won, games with NMR/CD, but they weren't from the beginning, they were far in, when they didn't matter, and I offered draws when they happened. And certainly not 3.5 of the countries surrounding me.

As a side note [you=everyone, not YHN specifically], if someone CD's, and I (and most of the board) offer a draw, but you don't accept, and then later on I'm in the lead and you throw up a draw vote because now you realized you can't exploit it as well as I can play against you, I will eliminate you. I hate it when cowards throw up draws only AFTER they realize they can't exploit a CD.

I think that would help a lot. I think people should be forced to read the FAQ to make an account, especially since they are (obviously and not without reason) expected to know and follow all the site-rules in there.

Restricting live games sounds a little harsh, especially because there are people who sign up TO play live games, but maybe points not being instantly replenishing? Obviously they should be infinitely replenishing, but I could imagine them refilling only once a week or something.
