Raids in Belgium on Terror Cells; 100+ Arrested Across Europe
http://www.cnn.com/2015/01/15/world/belgium-anti-terror-operation/ "A Western Intelligence source tells CNN that the ongoing terror threat appears to involve up to 20 sleeper cells of between 120 to 180 people ready to strike in France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands." 2014 was a year that will remembered for a lot of violence in the Middle East...might we remember 2015 as the year that violence came to Europe and the West?

Can't Ready Up Building fewer units than earned?
I want to save one of my builds for later. I entered one build but left the other blank since I don't want to use it yet. The order won't allow me to 'Ready' up. Will the one build still go through? Is this a bug, or is it a rule that I must use all my builds?

Mafia Sign Up Thread
If you're interested in playing a game beginning sometime after January 11, post here. I'll take on the GM role alone initially but I would love to have a co-GM if anyone is interested in that.

We can also discuss details of the next game. Preliminarily, there will be no SK and two primary factions (town/mafia). I would love to get creative with power roles if others are interested too.

Wade Boggs
Wade Boggs apparently drank up to 107 beers in a day, including 64 on a cross country flight. Can anyone top that? Also, who's your favorite British Prime Minister?

LA to NY flight = approx 300 min of viable drinking time (30 min take off and landing, 6 hours total flight time)
300/64 = 4 min and 42 seconds per beer throughout the entire flight
I find that difficult to believe.

Plus if he really was able to drink that much, he would have had an amazing tolerance for ethanol. The only way to build of a tolerance of that magnitude is to drink, and drink heavily, habitually. Otherwise that drinking behavior, that speed of ingestion, would be deadly. The fact that he was an elite athlete doesn't square with that level of drinking. Not to mention that if he were having sober periods, like for doubleheaders, he would have been very susceptible to ethanol withdrawal. Ethanol withdrawal is characterized by tremors, inability to concentrate, severe confusion, hallucinations, and seizure. None of these are remotely congruent with the ability to bat .328 with an OBP of .414 over an 18 yr MLB career.

Yeah, if an average can is 12 0z, 107 beets is 1284 ounces total...the equivalent of over 10 gallons per day. Not possible.

If you said 10 beers, I'd buy it. If you said he once had 20 in one day, I'd ask if he lived. After 100, I'm asking if him being so drunk that he knocks 80 of em onto the floor, spilling their contents counts as drinking them.

OB_Gyn_Kenobi (888 D)

I went back and read the legend. The story is that the drinking started in the Yankee's locker room and continued throughout the teams x-country trip to LA. The total drinking time then is likely significantly longer. Not that it matters though, since Boggs has stated that the number reported is a gross overestimation.
X3n0n (216 D)
17 Jan 15 UTC
if I remember correctly, airborne beer can's are only about 125ml in volume, hence you should divide the quantity 107 by 4 to get to one beer (.5l) then the feat is still impressive but also manageable for a man of his size.

The 107 was just his record in a day, not on that flight. Since he's American, it's likely those were 12oz containers. He drank Miller Light exclusively btw. What a puss.

if it is miller light, then divide by three to obtain the one beer equivalent. the result is an average 18th birthday celebrator.

Miller Light? Is that as bad as Coors Light?

I was in a bar in Bristol in which a girl in a tight t-shirt holding a tray was handing out free half pint glasses of the stuff. She tried hard, but it was so damned awful she couldn't give it away. The girls selling luminous tubes of green goo for a quid were doing better!

Pah, they change hands too quickly. None of the places I was banned from on the waterfront exist anymore. The awesome cider house by the Portland Square hookers has gone too. The Bohemia on Whiteladies Road was the best... I almost shed a tear when that one went :(
X3n0n (216 D)
17 Jan 15 UTC
@ssoren: ofc, 107 beer sound much different to someone, who thinks of one beer as ca. .5l and 5.9 %, than to someone, who thinks of it as .25 and 3.3%. To answer Obi's little sister: assuming Boggs had 107 beer on flight (and that a can on the plane would be approximately 125ml of volume) and Miller Light (it has 3.2, does it?) then his alcohol intake during the 6 hour flight would be 428 ml, his total liquids intake 13.4l (approx), which is a lot but feasible, esp. for a somewhat trained drinker or tall man in a good mood in a competition.

Maybe people missed it the first time...10 GALLONS. For those that believe this garbage, please explain how someone can drink 10 GALLONS of alcohol in one day and not be dead long before that point.
X3n0n (216 D)
17 Jan 15 UTC
Where do you get the 10 Gallons from ?!? A gallon is something between 3 and 4 l, is it? 10 gallons would equal smth. between 30-40l which would require beer having between 56 and 75% to reach your 10 gallons of alcohol.

For comparison's sake, lets look at Andre the Giant:

From his Wikipedia:

"Roussimoff has been unofficially crowned "The Greatest Drunk on Earth"[74] for once consuming 119 12-US-fluid-ounce (350 ml) beers (over 41 litres) in 6 hours.[75] On an episode of WWE's Legends of Wrestling, Mike Graham said André once drank 156, 16-US-fluid-ounce (470 ml) beers in one sitting, which was confirmed by Dusty Rhodes. In her autobiography, The Fabulous Moolah writes that André drank 127 beers in a Reading, Pennsylvania, hotel bar and later passed out in the lobby. The staff could not move him and had to leave him there until the giant awoke from his slumber."

Now, obviously Wade Boggs is no Andre the Giant, but given the prodigious levels of alcoholism that some people can reach, why is 10 gallons of beer so far fetched, particularly if it is of the light variety?

On a side note, Boggs ate pancakes before every baseball game.
OB_Gyn_Kenobi (888 D)
17 Jan 15 UTC
Boggs weighed 200 lbs, Andre the giant weighed 530 lbs. Volume of distribution.
OB_Gyn_Kenobi (888 D)

And that time he passed out in the lobby, was that during the filming of Princess Bride? Billy Crystal told a similar story about it in the anniversary special for the film.
2ndWhiteLine (2611 D(B))
17 Jan 15 UTC
If Andre drank 119 beers in 6 hours (supposedly, although frankly I believe this over Boggs) and weighed over twice as much, why couldn't Boggs drink that much in twice the time?

X3n0n (216 D)

@2WL because OB can't drink more than the watered down shot of vodka bo spoke of. And for ss 1 beer is what would otherwise be max a half beer. That is why they can't follow it.

I suppose if we believe the first story, the second becomes believable. But 119 beers/6 hr = about 20 beers per hour. That's a beer every three minutes for 6 hours straight. It would have to have been all he was doing. No talking, no eating, no peeing (unless he drank while he peed). For Boggs, 107/12 = 9 beers/hr = 1 beer every 6.7 min for 12 hr straight.

In fact, I think the longer the length of time, the less I believe it because who can keep up a beer pace for that long?

10 gallons of water is more than enough to kill someone, let alone non-American beverages which have other things in them your body DOESN'T need to keep around in limited amounts.

My friend was in the military and while forced marching, a guy passed out. The military assumed it was dehydration but it was over - hydration and they gave him an IV. Hours later he died from water on the brain from over consumption.

When you add the possibility of alcohol poisoning when you change from water to beer, this gets even more ludicrous.
You guys don't watch always sunny?
