You have the basics in grey and black. Now the question is do you prefer a classic restrained look (a dark blue or burgundy, for instance), or are you preferring to be more Avant-Garde? Purple can pair nicely with a medium grey, for instance.

there's a heavier material than silk that i've seen. not the knitted tie with the square bottoms.

Grey tie on grey suit... Hmm. Seem a bit blah to me.
LakersFan (899 D)
29 Nov 12 UTC
Exactly. Between the standard suit palette of grey, white, and black accents, you can really dress it up with a colorful tie. It is also nice to get some kind of design to introduce some elements of pattern and texture to your look.

i was also thinking of a red grey tartanish dress shirt. i like spread collars. combine that with a red/green etc paisley tie and similar pocket square,,,,
Jamiet99uk (873 D)

A paisley tie over a tartan shirt? No. This would be ghastly.

the shirt a cream colour base with the red grey checks muted colours rather than bright. bright tie instead

LF - agreed i am looking for a different thicker if you will, textured tie.

mrs mapleleaf will drag me to too many neighbourhood soirees this (and every) holiday season. i like to dress myself for occaisions and i'm fussier than she is about this stuff so she leaves me to it(I DO like the stuff she buys me though which is good because she buys most of my stuff.)

Do *not* mix patterns between shirt and tie. Two patterned items should *never* touch. Pattern and stripe, OK. But the tartan is too patternish. I would consider a textured white shirt (preferably stripe tecture) with a patterned colorful tie. Blue, Purple, Red, even Gold.

2 vital accessories missing, cobweb tattoo on your face and some tongue, nose, eye, ear and nipple piercings. I feel that penis piercings are just taking things a little too far but then again ..... what price fashion?

I'm fond of a splash of colour with a monotone suit.

I think a white shirt with a bright red tie would look pretty solid witha a red pocket square or no pocket square for accent. Red has the added advantage of being both patriotic and a holiday colour.

I wear a charcoal suit often that looks great with a light blue shirt and gold tie.
It depends on how conservative you are in your color choice. Myself, I prefer purples and blues when in grey. Reds and greens when in black.

This is just wrong, the best outfits involve pattern mixing unfortunately it is just very hard to pull off.

Polka Dot tie and a white pocket hankie. Shirt color should be white.

So lando, I have never seen an example.of.mixing two touching patterns unless one was a texture. Do you have any pictures? I'd love to see one that works.
No, I don't have pictures off hand but you can google pattern mixing and see lots. the sartorialist also often focuses on this.

I went to google images and googled "pattern mixing fashion men" and I saw a few muted patterned suits with patterned ties that worked, but only one truly patterned shirt and tie combination. Everything else seems to be a pattern and stripes, and those work fine. The bottom combo on this image seems to work...

I went with The Czech's suggestion along with a hint of Draugnar. Very light grey almost silver skinny tie (Hilfiger) with blue dots in a regular pattern. Subtly textured white shirt. Light blue and white cool ass pocket square in a flute fashion because dats how I rolls.

Top 10 Cities and Locales in the Anglosphere?
Just thought I'd throw this one out there...
Taking the four most obvious nations (the US, UK, Canada and Australia) and anywhere else you see fitting in the primarily-English speaking world (not "primarily," as of course there are many Spanish speakers in the US and many French Canadians, but the nations' overall aggregate majority is titled towards an English language/culture, I think)...best cities and locations?

How many supply centers are needed to win World dip IX? I mean, in a normal game it's 18 SC's, but in a world dip game I'm playing, this country has around 35 centers. So I was wondering, how many do you need?

The natural outcome of a dip game is a draw
It's either a 3-way draw, or possibly 4-way, depending on the alliances. If a solo occurs, than it's because one of the players made a mistake.
