This was my first ever Ancient Med game. The only game running, it was about to start and needed one more, so I figured “what the hell?” and joined it.

Beginner’s luck?

That convoy really screwed me hard, dude. I stared at the screen for a full minute when I saw it. T'was so unexpected. Congrats on your first Med win. :p

Good game skittles. You smashed Persia and I was deadlocked with Rome. I misordered fleet to Iberian instead go Ligurian sea in spring 3 or I think I would have had the upper hand and growth potential over Rome. I got lucky with a couple 50:50 guesses the next 2 falls to hold on to my current troop level. In the meantime Rome was moving in closer, and left his backside undefended. Once he hit draw it was too late to stop you, and to make matters worse he didn't even remove his units from my area so I couldn't respond either.

Ancient med doesn't give near the strategic arousal that classic does. But when there are only 5 saps on that want to play you give it a shot sometimes.

Yea, I just checked his profile and that was his first game..heh. He seemed to play better than a person in their true first game, though. I was glad about the deadlock, because that put you too far out to stop me, yet didn't give him builds to stop me either. I think I was certainly a solo threat much earlier, and he could have stopped fighting you to try and hold me to a draw.

And even when I was attacking him, he let me walk into Sicilia and Neapolia, all the while support holding against you so you couldn't even single handedly try and get into position

It's certainly not as sweet when a win is "given" to you.

Those few convoys were a huge part of the game for me. The first one game me two additional builds early, which let me establish naval dominance, and then the one against Vexx game me a build and threw his defense all out of whack.

Yea, I never thought I'd be a big fan of Ancient Med, and after playing it (to be fair, only a single game) I still feel that way. It would probably be better in a full press (as is regularly diplomacy), it just doesn't seem as big of a strategy game, like you said. At least for me, I feel like the way I opened pretty much set the course for my entire game. The map layout makes it real difficult to suddenly switch of your target. For example, I opened against Prussia, and by the end of it I had like six units over there and Egypt had a ton also. I felt I was pretty much forced on making a move against him next, because 1) it was likely he would attack me due to unit positioning, and 2) it would take like three years to put myself in a good position to attack Rome.

In a way, it was definitely fun. It was a completely new map to me, I had no idea of common or good openings (for me or my opponents) so instead of just going on autopilot at the beginning I actually had to look at the board and see what may be good. The map, and the number of players, just doesn't really appeal to me, so it's not something I see myself playing regularly.

You are correct though in that sometimes there are only 5 on, so we have to do what we can...and that's the reason why I played:

EOG: I will keep trying
We didn't have a complete stalemate, but Turkey's position didn't change once in I would guess the last ten phase. Why no draw earlier? We played through the CDs...

My Anniversary
haha...strange. I haven't logged in to play a game in probably a year. Today, I happen to log in and I noticed that it was my 5 year anniversary of joining this site. So, happy anniversary to me! :)

I'd eventually like to join another game cuz I've been missing it, but I don't see that happening anytime soon...I've been very busy. Anyway, that is all. Carry on...

Gunboat vs Press
I must say that I like both games, but my country preference is a lot different.

In Gunboat I love playing as turkey or france while I hate playing as russia. What are your thoughts?

I know WebDip has been plagued by multis lately, but this is just ridiculous
gameID=100761

Every single player in this game was banned for being a multi. Now, the question that begs to be asked is were they all together, or 2 sets of multis who had no clue about the others?
