We didn't have a complete stalemate, but Turkey's position didn't change once in I would guess the last ten phase. Why no draw earlier? We played through the CDs...

My Anniversary

haha...strange. I haven't logged in to play a game in probably a year. Today, I happen to log in and I noticed that it was my 5 year anniversary of joining this site. So, happy anniversary to me! :)

I'd eventually like to join another game cuz I've been missing it, but I don't see that happening anytime soon...I've been very busy. Anyway, that is all. Carry on...

Gunboat vs Press

I must say that I like both games, but my country preference is a lot different.

In Gunboat I love playing as turkey or france while I hate playing as russia. What are your thoughts?

In gunboat it's very common for england to open north, for turkey to go all attack and for austria to move to galicia. On top you can't count on germany to let you have sweden at all. In full press turkey is quite boring though and russia can more easily become friends with atleast one of his neighboors.

God don't start this please…

The only phase in the board game that doesn't involve talking is the retreats, though I like gunboat, and I won't say that it isn't real diplomacy. That being said, full press is as real as it gets not only in its correlation to the board game but in its realistic attributes to actual warfare and diplomatic relations.

In terms of this site, I like gunboats in live and press in day phases… that's me.

In Full press - Germany - most communication yet a strong position compared to Austria.

In Gunboat - Italy, England, or France. Only a couple real threats each with edges and as long as one of those threats goes freindly or recongnizes that they and you have other threats after S 01, you can turn and quickly engane in the other direction.

When I get screwed in gunboat I can't scream my head off at people.. I hate that aspect.

Full press favorites: Turkey, France, Germany
Gunboat favorites: Italy, Turkey, France

I too believe that full press gives you the real experience, and I don't really see why you would play gunboat in a non-live session. My intention is more a discussion like what Draugnar has added. Do you see big difference between the chances of powers in the two game versions, do you think there is a difference in most common openings ect.

I find that when I am playing a gunboat as Austria there is a lot of cursing.

In my experience, you are much more likely to succeed as Austria if you get past the six center barrier. Those early years are critical to your long run success. If Russia and Turkey juggernaut, which is usually the case in 1901 and 1902 in gunboat, it is relatively easy for Austria to hold them off if Italy is friendly. If Italy is unfriendly, you're basically fucked.

I get what you mean, without the ability to offer italy some sort ogf cooperation, the attack on you (bohemia crusher or not) seem to be to attractive for many italy's to let go these days.

If I see a Crusher or any variation of the Obriani, I immediately go all out anti-Italy if I'm playing Austria.

Yes, that's what we all should do in order make the move less popular in the long run on a meta-basis. But still you will lose that game to turkey/russia and are only figthing for future austria's by countering italy and that kind of sucks.

And, those people who attack Austria in 1901, whenever you are playing Turkey and Italy Lepanto's, let's go as anti-Italy as possible. Make sure Austria (and maybe Russia) get all your centers.

I know WebDip has been plagued by multis lately, but this is just ridiculous

Cat in Furnace Ductwork...

Ugh. We foster kittens for the county shelter. Brought some home, but them in bathroom to calm down...vent cover was off because we were painting...and the cat is now Inside the house ductwork. We opened a basement vent and put good in...still no cat...
