Thanks to this site I didn't have to study for any of the game theory portions of my economics exam because I intuitively understood it after almost five years of playing Diplomacy. But hey a symphony is a pretty demanding exercise, if you don't have time for Diplomacy while you write it, well, I'm no one to judge you. You certainly didn't seem to make much progress on it while you were here.

I had a tasty post for this topic about 5 hrs ago, but my net service crashed
& I went off & used a library pc to do my study, back at the shack & back online now.
i should of course be using the reseach i did to finish my assignment.......
but i have done 80% using OpenOffice not microsoft office as I wouldn't pay $700
for microsoft's product when I can get a product like OpenOffice for free.
so my Microsoft office keeps asking for that key to start & I won't use a "dodgy" key
as is perhaps occurring (lots)
I had planned to dump my wor onto a memory stick & print it at "the library / community centre" but the file ending in Open Office is .odt and of course being good little microsoft drones they want a *.doc or *.docx for me to send the assignment "email" to the course co ordinator, or to print it so I can send it in that way, at "the library" the system will use microsoft .doc or .docx or .rtf or .pdf but not my innocent .odt
file ending, so......ah'm thinking on it.

@Major - You are a colleg student, right? $119 buys office for you, not $700. Even better is Office University for $99. Seriously. You should research things and don't just listen to Microsoft's competitors (Apple) and assume they are being honest with the prices they quote.

@Major....errrr...you know with OpenOffice you can "Save As..." into .doc format, right??? That is kind of the whole deal with OpenOffice is that it is a free *compatible* replacement...I use it and mostly like it.

thanks for the help, i am an old fart who is studying a part time external TAFE (Technical & Further Edn Australia ) Spatial Info systems course so i can get into the full time course next year, when i bought my slaptop i was mainly doing field work as a downhole logger, or IP survey stuff, no i am woefully ignorant of "application" or s/w & $700 was what the dealer quoted

i'm thinking of buying a cheap printer and just using that
anyway i've hijacked this thread nicely

A lot of employers have group discounts with M$ too, my wife's work gets a discount where they can get Office for $10. Might be worth exploring if your place of business has something like that.
