Why would you vote to draw or cancel a game where Germany and Austria don't show up?

That's just free points you're leaving on the table. Who would be foolish enough to do that?

Text Message Alets
Wouldn't it be nice if there was a voluntary feature where you were alerted via text to an event (eg message, next phase)? It's easy enough to see what happened from the home page, so the text wouldn't need to tell you what happened, just that something happened.

Bottom 500 game?
Hey All,
I would like to play a bottom 500 GR game with people I haven't played before. I know I'm definitely bottom 500 GR myself, but I believe it's largely due to the fact that I completely and utterly suck at this game. Who's in?

Great ending to a great show...the middle seasons were very rocky, and the last season ended horribly, but a good final season capped off by a great finale--House+Dante's Inferno+A final nod to Sherlock Holmes I won't spoil here...

And so, 8 seasons...why not--Top 8 list of your favorite TV Characters?

Need sitter
I don't actually have any ongoing games right now, having taken a break from playing, but I'm going to drop out of the ghost ratings if I don't finish a game in the next month or two. So I'm looking for a sitter (top 50 GR a plus) who will play a few games from start to finish for me. Maybe a live gunboat and a few standard WTA games. Apply within, thanks!

Ok, here goes France's EoG:

Pre-game:
After sending my classic 6 messages to the other powers, I'm trying to get a feel on who I'm playing with. On the west, the best communication I have is with England (Babak). He seems flexible and we DMZ our territories in a fine way. Clearly the best ally I find in the pre-game. Germany also looks flexible, but less communicative, and we do agree to a DMZ in Burgundy. My communication with Italy gives me the tell there ain't a 3Vf scenario from the start, so I feel good about it.

1901: Along with E and G, we discuss a WT, but at the same time, me and England are teeling ourselves that we might just caught G off guard while he goes south to invade him. Along with England, we decide to wait and see what would be the best possible scenario for us, basically based on if Russia wants to join us in attacking Germany. If Russia decides to be in with us, I'm telling myself I'll clearly go after 1/2 of Germany and the other half against Italy, in the med, while England tricks Germany and deals with Russia afterwards. It also is funny, because at that time, I'm telling myself that I (highly) think England must be Babak, based on his press. I have high doubts about it, but I'm telling myself: nevermind, but just beare when Germany will be invaded to not let him stab you, if it really is him. Other important note: Eng, Ger and I decide to make Belgium look like we're fighting over it, so qwe don't draw too much attention. Interesting fact: Turkey sees it all, and is trying to get information from me about a possible WT, mentionning he'd be more than happy to see a WT. Since I'm a bit confused about future plans, I tell him I can give him no guarentees yet as there's quite a lot of possible plans for this game.

1902: Screw that! No WT. Germany goes East while England and I go to Bur and Hel. Now, with those moves, I'm happy x2 because England is comitting to our alliance against Germany, so I have no fear of him going against me, and our moves worked greatly against Germany. In the south, it is from that time that I try to get myself a place in what's going on in Italy and in the Med. Since it higly looks like Italy will be invaded by Austria, I ask him if he'd like my presence there to help him out against Austria, but at the same time I have Turkey and Austria asking me if I'd like to ally with them against Italy. From that time, and with the moves in the first year, I understand there's a strong A/T comming our way, so I'm telling myself I can't fight AT alone, so I explain the situation to Italy. He then accepts to have my armies near where he is. From that time, I start feeling quite alone in the Med and I hope I can get one of Turkey or Austria to ally with me, or else I would ally with Italy to stop them and hope they start attacking each other since their growth would likely be stopped.

1903: The domination in the North continues in the North with England, and I know I'm still safe against him, because Germany has still 3 units on the field and Russia is now made at him. The most interesting facts for this year is what has happened in the south. I start developping (more and more) a good communication with Austra and he seems open to an alliance with me to share Italy, and then to go on an attack against Turkey. Turkey seems to want the same with me, but from what me and Austria are exchanging, I see there is some lies in Turkey's press with me, and I decide to shoot for Austria and hope he trusts me. Austria looks well aware at the fact that AT alliances often ends in Turkey stabbing Austria... badly to say the least.

1904: How fine! Austria trusts me and supports me to Rome. Things are only gettiong started with Austria. Now, at that time, I know Germany will most likely be dead by the end of the year and that I'll have to look up to England now that he'll have no meat to chew on. But still, I trust him for this year because all of his units are busy in Scandinavia and Germany. Now, in Autumn, things are getting tricky: Russia is in Silesia and tells me he will support Munich so I'd have no chance of having this SC. On the other side, England looks like he'll get 2 SCs while I could have none, and my border with him is *weak*, to say the least. I even thought about stabbing him in Holland at that time as I knew he would most likely come against me next year with his 2 builds while I get none, if Russia supports Munich. Although, I told myself I'd only stab England if Russia supports me in Munich while I 2 on 1 Holland with Ruhr and Belgium. Russia buys the fact that his best chance at a Draw or surviving would be to let me grow fast so people would fear I'd go for the solo and he could be part of a stalemate somewhere, maybe, so he tells me he will not support Munich, but at the same time, he tells me he doesn't want to support me to Munich, so stabbing England was out of question at that time. From that time until the end, I had solid laughs with Russia, even though we didn't get to cooperate that much in this game. We still had fun and it's the most important part for me there. With Austria, things go with the flow and our communication stood for the rest of the game, really. The trust really was there for the whole time since we both know he'd need me to invade Turkey sooner or later and that I need to watch England as well.

Builds 1904: The turning point, for me, in this game. I have one build while England has 2. I'm really weak on my border with him and I really wish to build a fleet in Brest, even if we DMZed it from the start, but at the same time, if I tell him I'm building there, he might just do builds in Liv and London and attack me full force since he only had StP left to take in the north. He tells me he would go through StP and tries to cinvce me to move past the stalemate with him, but I felt it would weaken me big time if I do and that I would be a prime target for him. He tells me he's gonna do F. Edi and A. London to go through StP, but with his fleet in North Sea, he could just slip in Ech and try to attack me. I do a F. in Brest no matter what, and I tell him I'll go for a Fleet in Marseilles.

1905: Guess what? Eng is pissed at me. No, for real?!? How could that be?? I thought he'd be cool with me building in Brest... NOT! At that time, I tell him I don't want to attack him and that I only wish to bounce with him in Ech while I leave Ruhr empty and sail to a 3 way with him, but it looks like he didn't buy that, unfortunately... At that time, I really was pissed at me for not moving to Ruhr, because I think my only possible chance to go for the solo and break England would've been to take Ruhr at that time. From now on, I really started a streak of bad decisions in my orders and I've been pissed at me for not choosing correctly what to do. I knew that if I was breaking through England, I had a reasonable shot at the solo, but I also knew that I only would have few chances to break him before he stalemates me. Unfortunately, I missed them all...

1906 and until the EoG: I tried to get Russia on my side and asked him if he'd be willing to move through StP to get in Scandinavia while he could, so he could help me solo OR get in a draw if he managed to be in the stalemate line, somehow, but unfortunately, it didn't work. After my second move that didn't work against England, I knew I blew my chances to go for the solo and went for a solid 3 way-draw to end this game, since England and I stalemated our border. Austria wasn't a solo threat, because he need my fleet to invade Turkey, so I knew I was safe with him.

BengalGrrl: Too bad we didn't talk much in the early stages of the game. I usually like F/G better than E/F, but the situation in this game made the E/F more viable. I hope you enjoyed your Webdip game as I guess you are a F2Fer!

Coeus559: I really felt like I was about to ally with you when the AT was at his strongest, but my communication with Austria made me switch sides. I also hope we'll get to play other games together.

Fortknox: Strong game in the start, I was really impressed with your play before me and Austria decided to ally together against you. We didn't communicate that much this game, but I hope we can maybe play as neighbours in our next games!

Sandgoose: Too bad this game started ugly for you. I think 1901 really killed you for the rest of the game, but I really liked our communication, I had a lot of fun joking with you most of this game.

Babak: I really liked our cooperation throughout this game (well, until 1905), it really was fluid and I enjoyed most of our chat. Congrats on your play. You outguessed me the two times I could break you, so cheers on that! Although, I'd like to hear from you, since the game ended, if you had the intention to stab me in 1905 if I didn't make F. Brest. Nice playing with you!

Mr. A: First time we play together and like I said in our chatbox, I really enjoyed our exchanges in this game. You really are a good ally to have in a game, and I hope we can play other games together in the future.

well...im on the phone and i know i said i wouldnt write an eog...but i guess ill screw up my thumbs and make em numb for typing...ill be doing this from memory since im not at work and dont have my awesome dual monitor that lets me see the board and type at the same time...besides...i think my bleeding thumbs might be satisfaction for being screwed multiple times over....shame shame on all of you....okay...here come the highlighties...

this game started sour in 01...austria aaaand turkey basically decide to go gung ho so i know im screwed fro the getgo...so usually when russia doesnt have a good solid ally in 01 he's pretty much messed over for the rest of the game...now i am pretty good about working diplomacy...but here was the major issue here...austria and turkey both didn't talk to me. at all...like i was some invisible ghost or something...doesnt matter *grumble grumble* so by 03 and knowing i was screwed in the booty and england getting set up to do the takeover...well...it's pretty much ending...i decide to be a jokester.

so that being the case and germany being one of the main reasons why i fall so early in the game...i figure its okay to be the class clown...i tend to try to relax all my negative emotions which include sweet talking other players...calling them me luvs n such ;) i tried to get england and france to get one of my units to portugal to have a vacation from all the butt raping in the south....however as much as i knew it wouldnt happen i still tried to have fun with it.

let me see...what else...hmmm...oh yea! half way through the game...about the time where england promises a land of milk and honey for sure chance in the draw...i am given opportunity to get into munich...around this time the communication changes...the feeeel of england is way off....so the promise doesnt feel so..how shall me say...promising. i know at this point i ama goner. no body talking to me in the south...my one shot at a draw gone...yep...i was out...

tip: when somebody stabs...especially if you stab someone else...especially me...i can forgive if we develop a solid alliance after the fact. sadly though...that didnt work...somebody: *fk and mr A* *coughs....bastards coughs* (i say with the most respect of course.....sike!) stopped talking completely and only addressed the main forum...you realize it makes the game much less enjoyable...

when sandgoose stabs...he still talks to you...i mean...when you're raping somebody from behind do you expect them to be quiet? nah brah...ur expecting some yelling...some...please stop...but see...when iiii am raping someone im usually there rubbing the buttocks and sayin it's all gunna be alright...every little thing is gunna be alright...shhhhh...dont speak baby its all gunna be okay....but no...you guys were like...yeah....we're double penatratin him....and what of it...bend over and let me get you from this angle...bah...mutha fukas...

i enjoyed this game honestly...even though i died i think i made a couple good relationships....specifically with babak and slyster...thanks for playing along ewith the humor and i hope to play with you again sometime. i do think this game is all about relationships and developing good ones...people you could get to know. learn different playing styles...

anyways...thats all i got for an eog...my thumbs are numb and it took me practically the whole bus ride from seattle to federal way to write this bitch...i hope you're all soooomehwat satisfied with my response...ohhh...strategically speaking...if you see yourself being attacked from multiple sides...call for help...when you see another two countries with a good relationship....get the help of the weaker country...fuuuurthermore....when you see a barreling france and england coming towards you....you better damn right work with russia =P

had fun ladies...and i hope this posts...phones have issues...

Sandgoose, if you "know" you're a goner when the tone changes, I assume right before spring 1907 orders, why not screw England over by attacking Berlin rather than following through with the attack on Munich?

11 May 12 UTC
Why? Because I am one to give an effort of faith. It doesn't always work on my favor, in fact...it never does...hmmm....maybe I should do something else next time.
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
11 May 12 UTC
Could you not have really screwed England over at this moment, if you had put some faith in France? Perhaps that's why England lied at this critical point in the game, a lie that you seemed to take a bit personally in game, though with some hindsight, perhaps it was *that* important for England to do so? Not that I have any personal insight in the matter, I'm just taking a shot in the dark here...
Sandgoose (0 DX)
11 May 12 UTC
not that personally, all I said is YOU LIEd! :( *tear tear*

I wasn't SERIOUSLY hurting, I knew I was dead already, so in all honesty it was somewhat pointless
slyster (3934 D)
11 May 12 UTC
Yes, you were dying, but I really was serious with helping you to Berlin in A07. By that time, I'd have an army in Kiel, F in Bel, A in Munich, A Bur and A. Pic. Then, at that time I thought about Mun supports Sil-Berlin while Kiel goes to Holland supported by Belgium. But then, we wouldnt know how England would've reacted, and more specifically, how Austria would've reacted with his army in Tyr!

Honestly, I had 3 little shots at a solo and I missed 'em all. But hey! I still am very happy with that 3 way draw, especially that it ended with my 2 long term allies! Even better! I always am one who's happy to give my allies credits in a game with a nice finish. Like I always say: I'd rather take a 4 way draw finish with 4 players deserving to be in the draw (my allies maybe) rather than a 3 way with people I dont think deserve to be in a draw (my ennemies!!!!! *%##*+=+$%)

Sandgoose, I understand your thoughts about the uncommunicative Austria you've had, and I most probably would have felt the same way were I you because having no responses to messages is frustrating, really. Although, from my side of the story, I really developped a great communication with Mr. A that made me think he's a really great ally to have in a game, but why he acted like that? I think there's only one man here to answer that! ;0)

Last thing, Babak, when you'll have time to answer, I really wish to know if you had the intention to stab me in Ech if I didnt make F in Brest. Thanks!

@sandgoose: i had a look into our chat. in your opening message you told me straightforward that you'd prefer a juggernaut over an alliance with me. afterwards you broke an agreement in 1903. I still replied to your messages, but as I didn't plan with you anymore I didn't see a reason to initiate any in-depth discussions.

I totally fail to see the reason for your whining.

Sandgoose (0 DX)
17 May 12 UTC
I just saw this, thanks for bumpin it...let me check....

Okay here we go...

I said I usually prefer playing juggers as russia yes that is true, but I did not say that is EXACTLY what I would do. I said I would be willing to try something different. I figured my honesty and straightforwardness were vital in our game. 1903 I remember veeery vauge, was it along the lines of if you move to sevastopol I will get you there? You realize though, at this point, you weren't really talking, all your messages looked like this.:

okay, I'll do that.

^^^ that right there is not the pinacle of diplomacy and conversation, replies? Yes, you replied. But there was no depth. After 04 you ceased all means of communication. The only time you reached out to me was after I strongly pointed out the E+F alliance quickly growing while you and turkey fought on like hard headed bastards. This remained true even while france and england knocked on your doorstep...foolish to say the least.

I don't believe I was "whining" just ttyring to have fun and a good time...it was the 9th game I had joined from the forum...just wanted to have a good time.

Good luck to you in all your future adventures. ;)

Sandgoose: sorry if the 'whining' sounded harsh. Some players i play with talk more, some talk less. I know that i'm not among the most verbose players, but i think its enough to allow a fun game. I just dont have time to architect 10 paragraphs for each player every season. I dont even do that in f2f dip.
Mr A (386 D)

Anyways, thanks for your opinion. That's definitely an issue i should work on.
Mr A (386 D)

My late EOG:

I was playing Austria in this game.

The opening messages were straightforward except for Russia telling me right away he'd prefer a juggernaut over an alliance with me. At some point during the pregame discussions England told me that he wouldn't have heard anything from Russia yet, so I was pretty sure I'd be facing a Juggernaut. I had good press with Turkey, but stayed cautious.

Turkeys opening seemed a bit odd due to the missing bounce in Blk. Together with my fear of a juggernaut I somewhat expected a Black Sea Exchange. Italy had the same idea. However, the Autumn moves pretty much sorted this out. I broke an agreement with Turkey (to support him to Rum) but started to work with him therafter.

In 1902 I turned against Italy together with Turkey. However, Turkey decided to violate the DMZ in Bul in Autumn so I decided to stab him in Spring 03. At this point I also tried to work with Russia again. He agreed to tap Sev for me but didn't do it, so I turned again and continued to work with Turkey.

Meanwhile, I was openly cooperating with France in Italy and both France and Turkey were pushing me to ally with them against the other. I felt that I would have to decide soon to avoid to be sandwiched. I decided against Turkey and for France for the only reason that it's harder for France to stab me.

The remainder of the game was just tactical play to kill off Russia and Turkey.

A Question I Never Thought I'd Have To Ask...How Do YOU Read the Bible?
I don't mean in terms of interpreting it, or anything like that, but rather, on top of all the other reading for classes (Finals Approacheth) and my other books...well, like I said, in the process of reading The Bible, since it DOES seem a fair point folks have made, "Read before you criticize," and obviously the best scholars have...but damn it, it's AWFUL to slog through! How has everyone here who's read it--no cheating if you haven't--managed their way through?

SPRING GUNBOAT
Is this tournament still running? Why has only one game started? Does Geofram still visit the site? Is that one game still paused?

Can someone please answer these questions.

Top 100 game?
Hey All,
I would like to play a top100 GR game with people I haven't played before. I know I'm not top100 GR myself, but I believe it's largely due to the fact that I only played 13 games here. Who's in?

Star Trek Game Rematch
Interest? And Draugnar is allowed in too. But, hopefully will be on the other side of the map from me. Anon, 10 point bet, Classic, 1.5 day phase. Everyone imitates a race from star trek. Will make the game once interest is shown.
