Where can I see the Game ID? And how does one resign?
I did check the FAQ before posting this thread, but didn't find answers.

About Game ID, I've seen people pasting a game ID in such a way that it appears as a link in a message. Where do I see the Game ID, and how do I copy and paste it in such a way?

MOD need help!!!
Game ID 61430. This game I am in has been paused for almost 300 days and most of the players have disappeared. I was wondering if it could be unpaused or even better, forcefully drawn. I would just like my points from the game.

Strongly suspect cheating in a live game and would really appreciate being able to salvage it if possible.

Howdy. I am going to start reading Satanic Verses, and wanted to see if anyone wanted to do a book club type deal. We could read along and discuss what we think about it in the forum.

This Time On Philosophy, Erm, Whenever--The Club of Ideas and Intellect: What's In/Out?
On the heels of that "Daily Bible Reading" thread and the impersonations (Mujus, I invite you and your followers along into this thread) and many have ridiculed the arguments made therein as illogical--myself included. It seems, more than ever, that there's a divide, in these amateur ranks and in the "professional" ranks, as to what is viewed as properly intellectual. So! What views and theories are intellectually "valid," in your view, and which are bunkum?

Double Songs
There are these songs that I listened to on the radio growing up, but then when I got the album found out they were really two songs, but they were always played together on the radio.
Alderian (2425 D(S))

Exhibit A: Pink Floyd -> The Dark Side of the Moon -> Brain Damage and Eclipse.

As it says on wikipedia for Brain Damage: "This song is often mistakenly referred to as "The Dark Side of the Moon" alongside "Eclipse" because the two run together and are commonly played together on the radio, giving the impression that they are one song."

Exhibit B: Queen -> News of the World -> We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions

Maybe these aren't always played together, but I've always heard them played together.

Exhibit C: The Beatles -> except now I can't remember which ones did this.

Anyone else noticed this? Know of any others?

dark side of the moon definitely. On Pink Floyd's album "Animals" all four songs run together to the point that the album seems to be one song. Disagree with Queen as I've never heard them back to back
semck83 (229 D(B))

I certainly agree on the Queen one. I've never heard them played separately (on the radio),

Two Beatles ones I've heard are Sgt. Pepper / With a Little Help From my Friends and Sgt. Pepper (Reprise) / A Day in the Life (and I agree that neither Sgt. Pepper song should be played alone, though they are technically individual songs).

Ever heard of a band called UB40, or The Specials, or Madness, or The Clash, or The Damned, or The Boomtown Rats, or The Jam, or The Stranglers ??

Empty Spaces/Young Lust and Happiest Days of Our Lives/Another Brick in the Wall Part II get doubled up on the radio a lot around here. And Bob Seger's Beautiful Loser always gets paired up with the song that comes before it on Live Bullet whose name I'm blanking on now. There's not a place that I could point to as the definitive transition there.

Led Zeppelin's Heartbreaker and Livin' Lovin' Maid (She's Just A Woman) also get paired a lot.
2ndWhiteLine (2611 D(B))

The medley on Abbey Road is usually played together as well, even though they're technically different songs.

I wonder if Soft Cell's Tainted Love counts, since they transition to covering "Where Did Our Love Go". The original single didn't include that, but the album did, and it's often played as one song.

@SD - Foreplay/Long Time is one song though. It's even one track on the CD version.

What about Band on the Run? Isn't that usually played next to another song?
Draugnar (0 DX)
07 May 12 UTC
You're thinking of Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey which seems to be two songs run together but is actually one off of Ram. Jet follows Band on the Run and they *never* get played together and there is no preceding song to Band on The Run as it is the first track on side one of the album of the same name.

Robert Palmer combined Marvin Gaye's Mercy Mercy Me (Ecology) and I Want You into a medley that became extremely popular. Does that count as two songs played together? Or one because it was clearly recorded by Robert Palmer as a medley?
Draugnar (0 DX)

One real popular always played together from The Wall is:

"The Happiest Days of Our Lives"
"Another Brick in the Wall Part 2"

@Draug

Yeah, you're right, Band on the Run is all one song.
Depeche Mode released "Behind the Wheel" as a single in 1987 and a track on their album Music for the Masses. The B side was a cover of Bobby Troup's "Route 66". Various mixes blended the two songs together. The remixes were so popular that they tended to get more radio play than either of the two original separate songs.

Route 66 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqrKxBhKdFM) + Behind The Wheel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pcnpDmWTjE) = Route 66/Behind The Wheel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGlvy4et6bY)
Randy Bachman was talking about these on the radio yesterday. He plans to do a 2 hour radio show with only them in the near future, accompanied by good stories.
Yonni (136 D(S))

Ironically, one of randy bachman's most famous songs was a 'reverse' double song with no sugar tonight and goodbye mother nature being bundled as one track.

The double song which first comes to mind for me is china cat sunflower and know you rider by the dead. I dont actually think they were on the same album but they're always played live together and pretty much just became one awesome song.
Alderian (2425 D(S))

Band on the Run just sounds like 2 or 3 different songs due to the very different sections.

Thanks all for participating in this thread, very interesting.

On my 8-track, Fore Play and Long Time were separated.
Poozer (962 D)

Pretty much anything from The Wall and Darkside of the Moon could count, they are meant to be albums. They can't even legally be sold digitally as tracks now, full album or nothing (there was some law suit a year or so ago by PF against the record label).
Poozer (962 D)

Yes - Seen All Good People always sounds like two separate songs.
jwalters93 (288 D)

Queen's 'We will rock you' and 'We are the champions' were originally written as one song. So they are most often played back-to-back on the radio. I've never heard them otherwise played.

A Day in the Life... It may have been recorded as one song and only have the one title, but geez. If that isn't one song crammed in the middle of a second, I don't know what is.
ghug (5068 D(B))

Draug, I may be wrong about this, but I think I remember A Day in the Life having some underlying musical continuity, just with two very different sounding sections.
Draugnar (0 DX)
08 May 12 UTC
Yeah, with an orchestral glisendo on one end and an audio dream sequence on the other connecting them. The motifs are so divergent that only an orchestral glisendo/dream sequence could do.

[MAY] Face-to-Face Diplomacy in NYC!
After taking a brief self-imposed vacation from all things non-academic in April, I'm now getting back to organizing games this May. The schedule is tight but we can squeeze some stuff in here. For the sake of keeping things easy I'm just going to copy and paste the message I sent out to my email list here (PM me with your email address if you'd like to be put on the list, or if you didn't get the email for some reason):

Abortion
With the new discussions in parliament regarding freeing up restrictions on abortion to allow any length of term to be aborted, what do people here think about this? Obviously abortion in itself has been discussed before, so let's keep this specific to the new discussion on no-limit abortion rights.
