@CSteinhardt: There have been a number of previous attempts at creating a 'live game club' with the purpose of setting up passworded live games between honourable players. Unfortunately, whilst much effort went into crafting policies, generating lists of honourable players, and playing inaugural games, the commitment tends to peter out and the ability to get people to come online at the same and right times proves difficult. The problem is not finding enough classy, sportsmanlike players who want to play a live game - there are so many that fit this category - the problem is getting them online at the same time.

Rather than creating another group built on the promises of abstract values, my suggestion would be, if you want a classy live game with honourable players, trying finding a convenient time when other people would be interested in joining you for a passworded live game. Perhaps you can begin to find suitable time periods in which there is more interest from respectable players for live games.

There are heaps of regurgitated lists featuring the same honourable players - what would be more useful would be knowing times that regulars want to play, or at least times that you can come on and get a game going. Currently, I check on arbitrarily if there is a live game happening - if I knew that I'd get a good live game at XX:XX I would come online at that time - perhaps others would do the same. It's not a guaranteed idea but it might be a start.

I can't play as often as I'd like, but if there were a regular time or night for dedicated live-game play, I'd check in when I'm able.

You're not the first to suggest this idea. Many of tried to set up such clubs in past, but they have all collapsed.

I think going by reputation is better than attempting to maintain a centrally administered club.

Simply advertise a password-protected game in the live games thread

asking quality players to PM you for the password. If more players did this and also sought out password-protected live games, then I think the quality of such games would be improved.
