Dune!
A world game started getting overrun with Dune talk between myself, Draug, and Dunecat, so I'm taking it out of there and in here.

MVP of the NFL
So who's the MVP so far? Aaron Rodgers? Personally, I think its Peyton Manning. I dont think it can be stressed how valuable he is that a team that wins 11 games or more for the past decade cant win a single game without him. What do you guys think?

Programming Suggestion
I would like to see a bit of code added that automatically turned in an order for players who had zero SCs at the beginning of the build phase. Too many times have I seen build phase draw out because the guy who just lost doesn't put in the order for the destruction of his final units. Seems unnecessary.

Teach a group of high school students to play Diplomacy, akin to SoW
I am a high school teacher, and we have a Diplomacy club. We are going to start an online game, and I was wondering if there are people interested in walking them through the game.

vdiplomacy.com: what is it?
I found a mysterious website called vdiplomacy.com. It claims to be webdiplomacy and has a similar format, but it's not exactly the same, and it has lots of variants available. Anyone know what this is all about?

What is Donald Trump's Base?
I'm confused
Of all the people in the country, Republican pundits (with the exception of the two with a shred of integrity and pride) are rushing to kiss the ring of this walking, talking, gimmick. Who takes anything this man says seriously?
*republican candidates I should say.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Wait, he's still running?
no, he is moderating a debate between the candidates and will endorse one following the debate. ie he is positioning himself as a republican kingmaker and people are actually going along with it
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Well, at least I'll know to go with whichever Republican Trump doesn't endorse.

The Republican primary has become like a long absurd season of the Apprentice, so it's almost appropriate.

"Well, at least I'll know to go with whichever Republican Trump doesn't endorse."

I hope this is a joke... To base your views on someone else's endorsement seems silly.

Newt is basically sucking trump's dick to get an endorsement and its pretty sickening. Paul and Huntsman have enough decency to skip the Trump-moderated Iowa debate in late December.

Aha, guilt-by-association is all of a sudden not in vogue now that it's used against the right. Cue Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers.

The best thing about having a reputation for being sarcastic is when you say something stupid, people are never sure if they're just not clever enough to get it.

Trump's base - and the demographic he clearly represents - has always been the foundation of the Republican party. Incompetent business men who can't succeed in a free market, so they turn to the political system to turn their incompetence and failures into gold - either through absurd government contracts that would land people in private industry in court, regulations that are designed to put competitors out of business, or simply take government handouts of cash or land. Buying politicians is absolutely the best investment you can make in America - if you are completely without shame.

In Trump's case, a lot of the land for his developments was essentially given to him through 'redevelopment' scams, often involving his politician friends using eminent domain to evict lawful owners from their properties. He's a bully, and worse, he is incompetent. He's used corporate bankruptcy laws to walk away personally unscathed from companies he has run into the ground and into bankruptcy - screwing investors who trusted him out of millions of dollars.

Trump is a terrible human being, who has no qualms about using government force to take things that don't belong to him. He also has no real business talent aside from the ability to create a marketable image of himself that somehow never tarnishes no matter how many scandals or disasters go off around him, or how many investors lose their shirts thanks to his incompetence. You could make a drinking game out of all the times he encouraged contestants on his game show to break laws and generally engage in shady dealings.

I for one am quite pleased that a handful of Republican candidates see him for the scumbag he is - the division between those with class and character and those who are willing to sell their soul to get an endorsement from a no-account media personality is quite clear.

@Tolstoy - I agree with you 100% about Trump himself and about who he represents, but to label that group "the foundation of the Republican party" is disingenuous at best. There are plenty of very successful business men who are staunch Republicans and who feel the Fed does too many handouts as it is, both to businesses and to the poor. Much of the Republican party believes in personal responsibility and sees the Democrat's socialistic charity as the equivalent to the handouts their own extreme right wants to give to businesses. Trump represent a very small but, unfortunately vocal, subset of the Republican party. As with many groups of supposedly like minded people (including Democrats), the bulk of the group is silent while what you see and here is the very small but loud minority that gives the rest of the group a reputation.

Which one deserves to get the second spot in the nat'l championship? Both are 1-1, oklahoma state has a conference title and more wins against ranked opponents, but alabama plays in a tougher division and had only lost to the no. 1 team, LSU. What do you guys think?

New 'variant' suggestion
A gunboat variant where you could see who had joined but did not know who played each country. That would allow you to screen who you played with and could avoid obvious cheating red flags. Just a thought.
