The Federal Reserve Balance Sheet
Can someone explain the difference between Quantitative Easing & Credit Easing? I'm not getting it. I get that QE is pumping money into circulation by buying large numbers of treasury bonds, but how is the process different with this "credit easing"? It's still expanding the balance sheet, is it not?

The Second-Largest Power
Many people have observed that the largest power becomes a target for alliances to take down. This makes the second-largest power a desirable position to hold as it often can become the winning power. Builds can be withheld or centers not taken in order to achieve this position. Discuss below.

What things do you to keep track of whats going on in a game, from a diplomacy perspective... to work out the likelihood someone is going to "stab" (a phrase I am becoming quickly accustom with) you a few turns in advance.

is it wise to have a separate word doc open to keep track of whats going on with each country?

Here's my list of favorites.

Bourbon: Maker's Mark
Blended Scotch: Johnny Walker
Single Malt Scotch: The Glenlivet, but it's also the only one I've sprung for
Go-to: Dewar's White Label

Of the Johnny Walker brand/line/label I've only had Red, I would only drink that because it is cheap. Otherwise Glenmorangie/fiddich/livet are all really good.

If I have to drink it, Canadian Club or Seagrams 7, mixed with 7up.

You're a monster.

At least use a proper mixer like soda water or ginger ale or (unorthodox, I know) coke.
largeham (149 D)

I should try Black. A friend of mine got a bottle of Blue for his 18th.
Has anyone had Chivas Regal?

Also, Canadian Club and 7up sounds disgusting. What does it taste like?

I don't know a lot about fancy whiskey but rye and ginger is my favourite mixed drink. It is probably the most popular mixed drink in Canada. I think its better than a seven and seven
great thread :)
for good bourbon try woodford reserve; beautiful ambassador for what is essentially a cheap bogan (aussie slang for redneck) drink, usually (by same bogans) mixed with coke.
for single malt scotch, try either of the Skye whiskies: Lagavulin or Laphroaigh. Both are extraordinary and because they come from the west coast (the Isle of Skye lies on Scotland's Atlantic coast), they have completely different characteristics than the better known brands which usually come from Speyside which is from Aberdeenshire on the north east coast.
As to Scotch blends try: Chivas Regal Royal Salute, a blend of 21yo whiskies or Johnnie Walker's King George V.
and further to blends, remember that the age is the *youngest* whisky used in the blend, so the youngest whisky used to make Royal Salute is 21yrs.
Dewar's is mass produced crap, just like Johnnie Walker red or Jim Beam white labels.
Highland Park perhaps? Or the Macallan?
Forget irish whiskey, but try Suntory, a japanese whiskey.
And remember never to mix good whisky with anything but a dash of cool (not cold) water to bring out the flavour :)
I hope this has been enlightening. As a born and bred Scot, and a professional cocktail tender i consider myself a bit of a coinosseur.
;)

CC & 7 is a little less sweet than Seagrams & 7. Tastes about the same.

I do kinda like the Sazerac, though. But we're getting into cocktails.
Draugnar (0 DX)

I prefer single malt highland scotchs over any other whisky although Crown Royale and Diet Coke is a decent drink. But anything other than single malt highland is for mixing.
@draugnar...there are plenty of very good canadian whiskies, bourbons and japanese whiskies that you really shouldn't mix, and let's face it, if you do put a mixer in your drink, that's all you'll be tasting. This is why we call vodka the bartender's best friend: no matter what you do it, it'll taste good.

I'm sure there are plenty of Kentucky and Tennessee bourbons and whiskies too, but I love scotch, pure unadulterated scotch.

Bulleit has been my go to bourbon of late.and I recently bought some angostura so Manhattans have been the drink of choice. And, no, nothing else in my lifestyle is that classy. I also have a bottle of Ballantine's 12 yr old sitting unopened next to me that I got at the duty free.

@ Marti, I really disliked Suntory when I tried it. I just really can't understand how it has such a stellar reputation.

@ Marti: Lagavulin and Laphroigh both come from the Isle of Islay (a smaller island not as far North as Skye) as does Ardbeg which would be my favourite whisky.

Talisker - the only distillery on Skye (the, several generations back, home of my family) is excellent.
The Islay whiskies (Ardberg/Bowmore/Laphroaig/Lagavulin) are my favourites but their smoky/peaty flavours are sometimes not appreciated by all.
I don't rate the youngest version of glenfiddich although I do like those with more age.
I only have blended whiskies for friends and neighbours who like to mix it so buy cheap from the supermarket.
Balaran (0 DX)

I don't appreciate the peaty flavour. Ive tried most of the Islay singles and not found one I really like.

I will agree with Invictus that Glenlivet is the finest of all whiskey (for my taste) and Jonnie Walker is a very nice blend. They can both be found in my drinks cupboard consistantly. At the moment I also have a bottle of Dimple, Glenmorangie and Chivas Regal in the cupboard too. And a bottle of Grants for the guests !!

I'm not a big fan of the Islay whikies - although a drop of water changes the flavour profile (as I found out at the Famous Grouse when I tasted the indivudual components - that was a good day - 8 drams before lunch ;) )

Talisker is a good shout - really peppery, excellent with haggis. Old Poultenay is interesting - it's right by the sea, and it tastes salty. I like Dalwhinnie for a lighter malt, The Macallan is nice, and Tamnavulin.

The best one I have is a cask strength Cragganmore which I got as a gift for my 40th - that is getting very slowly savoured.

I don't drink blended as a rule, but it's there for the whicky & mixer guests

Scotch: I will echo the Islay vote. Im in the love the peat category, and Ardbeg has long been my favorite. Oddly, though for cheaper but decent scotch, I go to Abelour for my entertainment, or Glenfiddich if necessary. I also stock a bottle of Oban at all times for friends who prefer the smooth/vanilla/clover type.

Bourbon: For me there is no dispute. Blanton's is the best hands down, followed by Basil Haydens, followed by Woodford. As you can tell from this list, Im the opposite in flavor preference to scotch. I prefer my bourbons soft and slightly honeyed. If you are fan of things with kick, Bookers' is the expensive way to go (and again, I keep it stocked).

Irish: Middletons. Again, not a serious dispute.

Canadian: Why bother. Go Scotch or bourbon.

In terms of single malt whisky: Most things that haven't been chill-filtered. They do it for the overseas markets because people like to put ice in their whisky (heathens!) and don't want it to cloud up, but if you're drinking it neat (and you should be), get a whisky that isn't chill-filtered. It adds a whole extra dimension of body to the whisky.

That being said, I'm a big Edradour fan. It's been getting easier and easier to find in the states over the years, too.

If you owned a company and someone said they would cut your costs to hire an employ for the next six months, but after that they would raise the costs tremendously why would you hire anyone based on a six month cut? This is exactly President Obama's payroll tax reduction plan.

Is this going to get me in Trouble?
My brother(The Man Who Can't Be Moved) without my knowing, decided to joing some daily games that I was in without telling me, 2 of which I believe are Anonymous, this will not compromise how I play the game but it is certainly aggrivating that I could get banned when uses my Laptop, is there anyway I can avoid being under scrutany for this or should I simply avoid it in the future?
