Writing a book
Has anyone here written a book? Once I finish another project I am working on, I am mulling over writing a biography of a secondary figure from the early American Republic. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with publishing a manuscript before.

The death of one of the greatest boxers who ever lived, and a huge part of the sports and cultural scene of the 1970s...may the epic Ali/Fraizer fights live on forever, and Joe be forever Smokin' Hot. RIP

Rule question! Retreat edition!
Just looking for a quick reminder (I'm still working the rust out of my long absence). If Austria's Vienna Army supports its Army in Bohemia to Tyrolia and Italy moves its Tyrolia army to Bohemia, can an Austrian Army dislodged from Silesia retreat to Bohemia?

A couple of questions about American courts.
In the UK, when a jury has a verdict the judge asks them what the verdict is and they say it out loud. In the 'States, once a jury reaches a verdict, they write it down on a piece of paper and hand it to the judge, He or she reads it and then hands it back and someone in the jury reads it out.

Why do they hand it to the judge first? What does this achieve?

The Masters Rounds 7 and 8
So I've spent pretty much the whole weekend working on the spreadsheets and finding out how TrustMe did it, but now I've got everything I need to become (temporary) TD and with Geofram's help get this thing back up and running.

The Biggest Threat To Liberty is _____ (?)
I say a Lack of Education:
It was with more education we got out of the Stone Ages and into the Greco-Roman era...and then when education made a comeback, we had the Renaissance...and then the Englightenment...and then Civil Rights/Suffrage movements...cured diseases, more production...but currently my home state is 48th in education and the West is most of my doctors ARE from India...what's your take? Biggest threat is...what?

A Question on the Masters
See below
Alright, so in order to get the Masters back up and running I’m making a spreadsheet of who played who and as what country, but I’m up to round 4 and I’m running into a problem dealing with all the replacements and figuring out who exactly replaced who. So in the Masters there are 8 rounds, and everyone plays everyone once, right? But that leaves 8 games and 7 countries. Is there any criterion on whether you play as every country and then the 8th round is a random country or if your random double can happen at any time?
Or does the new player not "replace" the other one in the sense that he starts off with a clean record?
Alright, I'm through round 5. Only a bit more in terms of mapping out to go, but until I know who filled in for whom I'm going to be in a bit of trouble

I replaced askninjasks.

I'm pretty positive that the last round is the round in which everyone plays a country a second time. A replacement player would have to play the same countries that the person they are replacing had left to play or it wouldn't all work out right.
@Geo - so askninjasks played rounds 1 and 3 while you played 2, 4 and on?

And I'll just assume that the last round will be the same country as the first round? I may have to play around with it a bit more. Also, if anyone else knows who they replaced, it would be of great help to me

Last round, I thought was you just let the random selector decide on your country. But since you've already played all seven countries you'll play something twice.
Alright, well that makes sense. Thanks damian

No problem. Hopefully I'm right. Not that it matters that much one way or another, I'm sure both would be a valid system.
If you played the same country that you played in your first round, that would blow the anonymous aspect of it. Setting aside the difficulty of tracking the replacements, you should be able to figure out by Round 8 who the remaining six people are that you have not played yet. If each played the same country he or she played in Round 1 (assuming that even would work with no overlap), you would know who everyone was.
Yeah, my problem is there are 70 people on the list, and I'm trying to pair them up and narrow it down to the 49 required. once that is done, it should all be relatively easy
I meant it would be easy for "you" in the sense of the person playing in the tournament, not "you" goldfinger trying to recreate the rotation. Your task is difficult and tedious, and I thank you for taking on the challenge.
No problem. I have a midterm tomorrow, so I might not be finished with this all until next weekend or later, depending on how much time I can devote to this. Still doing data entry.
Alderian (2425 D(S))

It does seem like the last round would have to be just random.

Regarding askninjasks and geo, if ask was quickly eliminated in game 3 while still playing in game 2, and then had to be replaced, Geo would have taken over game 2 and from 4 onwards. So that is certainly possible.
Alright....well good news is that I'm almost done. Some reshaping of the data and its going along much quicker than I thought it would
So I have the spreadsheet done, with all the games mapped out and all the replacement players paired up with the people they replaced. I just have a little more stuff to fix, but it will probably be done within the hour. I can easily recreate the Round 6 games, but it will take some time to figure out the round 7 games. I'm trying to find a pattern, but can't seem to do it
Sooooo guess who has the matches for rounds 6 (those that never got off) round 7 and round 8 :) Annnnnd guess who's going to stop procrastinating from studying for his midterm tomorrow

Goldfinger has done an extreme amount of work to get the Masters back up and running. But he's not all the way there yet. There's going to be replacements, emails, pauses, etc. What he needs from every participant is patience and cooperation. Check your email, respond to email, and pay the fuck attention. This is the one chance to get an important tournament back on its feet, don't make it difficult for the one guy that volunteered.
Thank you for the kind words Geofram. I'll let this thread die off and start a new one on it.

Probably not new game play idea, maybe for tourneys
Is there a tourney here that we could do a Triple vs Triple deal with a rogue Italy? I think if we have enough players that would be a fun thing to do. I think best would be 7 players or 49. Could be fun. Let me know if anyone is interested or has a way to make it a better idea.
