Question for Euro-Zone people
How does the whole soveriegn debt fiasco look from your point of view?

I know that people from Europe sometimes find it baffling how the safety net is much weaker in the US than in their home nations, but I think we here find the level of tax evasion, bribery, and corruption in the southern tier nations equally baffling....

No Joke, this is a quote from a facebook arguement I am in
I will support Zack's decision to enter into the dangerously racist field of biology, despite the fact that reason and logic certainly have no place in the future socialist empire of equality and freedom which we will fight for and inherit, despite our low-birthrate and poor schooling. We will survive!

New Game/Leaving
As my semester increases in difficulty I am faced with a question. Should I take a break from dip? My answer is yes, but after one more game. Hoping to get some of my classic opponents, but there is nothing wrong with new people :)
I'm thinking WTA, anon, somewhere around 100 D for entry, 24 to 48 hour phases. Any Interest?

Statistics
Does anyone know a website that has relatively recent Diplomacy statistics for things like victories, defeats, draws, opening moves, etc? I've recently re-read The Game of Diplomacy and am curious to see if any of the statistics that Sharp quoted have dramatically changed, but a cursory google search failed to find anything productive. Is there a database for statistics from this website? The 25,000+ games is a huge potential data set.

"Territories" bug in world map for 17 players
There is a small bug in territories adjustments down on the south pole in world map.

You can actually move fleets from "Vostok" to "DdU".

Can anyone defend multi-accounting?
?
Thucydides (864 D(B))
15 Sep 11 UTC
Here's looking at you, George Frazier. Yes, we have a new Bearnstein.
I suck at life and I need to earn some self-worth on this site. If I don't, I'll become a mass murderer. Multiaccounting would have stopped 9/11.

Boom.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
15 Sep 11 UTC
Word. That's what I was thinking about you too, that's why we make an exception and let you have 10 accounts.

Hey can you log back onto BasedGod and make some more funny posts I love that shit.
Favio (385 D)

I'll try to. Multi-accounting may be useful for a certain time. Take my situation, for example. I am trying to teach a friend how to play diplomacy, which in our current situation is difficult because neither of us have a board. I'd love to play a live game with him, just to show him how to play, with me in control of the other 6 countries. I'd show him honesty, alliances, betrayals, and simple rude stabs. But these games should not count for points. This is simply a way for me to help my friend learn how to play the game, without cheating and bothering someone else to play with an inexperienced player.

On that note, I think it is a decent idea to have a small group dedicated to teaching other people how to play diplomacy, where the instructor takes 6 countries and the student has his measly one. Give them a 50 point bonus for graduating the "training course" or give them nothing. I don't care. But it could be used as a way of teaching and not as a way of cheating.

if I make an alternate named LilBTheBasedGod can I just ban this one
Scmoo472 (1933 D)

Well, actually he does put up a good point. How would you host a game for training someone, I mean do you want them to just jump into the ring of fire? But I don't think it would be wise to do that, just make it so you can "unrank" a game so that there is no bet, and no points, and it would also allow people to play without paying, so if they can't win with points, they can try to improve there skill in a non-ranked game. And that would allow people whom want to try there skills against people, play a ranked game worth points.

Multiaccounting makes me feel like a real man, like almost as manly as President Eden, but without all the girly qualities.
Well, duh, of course you don't let them loose here to start.

You go to our redheaded stepchild website playdiplomacy and let them multiaccount there to figure out how to play, then send them here once they get it.

i defend it as i know the mods have multiple accounts so they can go into games and spy on people so they arnt aware they are talking to mods. makes investigations and such much easier. so it can be good, but it still makes the mods look like the CIA

"You go to our redheaded stepchild website playdiplomacy and let them multiaccount there to figure out how to play, then send them here once they get it." -PE

Yeah, the thing is that Diplomacy is like a drug see.

At first, one game at a time will do it for ya. But then you gotta play two at once. And you keep going see. But then, you hit the limit. You're playing 10 games see. But you gotta have more. 10 games just don't do it for ya no more see. So you make a new account. Call it "Tettleton's Crew". Call it "Diplomat1825" or "Bearnstien" and now you're good to go. Now you have 40 games see. And you just keep going.

Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Best part is, they can't catch you if you're a mod.
I know, Scmoo. Notice you're still here. ;)

Thucy, you know about what I tried (right?) that's the only instance in which I'd find multi-ing tolerable.
Diplomat33 (243 D(B))
15 Sep 11 UTC
i found an exception, if you have multi-personality disorder, and each of your "persons" get an account, it should be ok.
Thucy, when making "can anyone defend..?" threads, please follow this template:

Can anyone defend [topic]?

Can anyone defend the idea that a(n) "[object that creates topic]" can diminish [whatever it replaces] in exchange for increased [topic as adjective] imposition of [the object again] power over the [whatever it replaces again] can produce a better [situation]?
Example:
Can anyone defend Socialism?

Can anyone defend the idea that a "government" can diminish individual freedom in exchange for increased socialist imposition of government power over the individual can produce a better society?

Can anyone defend the idea that multiple accounts can diminish the fail in exchange for increased awesomeness imposition of multiple accounts' power over the fail can produce a better Diplomacy game?

Wait, is there really a 10 game limit here?
SacredDigits (102 D)

The limit is how many points you have to spend. I was in 15 at one time.
