Can anyone defend freedom?
Can anyone defend the idea that "people" can produce a better society by diminishing governmental control in exchange for increased libertarian imposition of civil freedoms on the government?

Are no-hitters not a big deal anymore?
When guys like Ervin Santana can get one and we've had something like 10 in the past 2 seasons are no hitters going to become passe?

Also, what the heck is La Russa's major malfunction?

Account sitting.
I'll be out of town for four or five days, and I'm not sure what to do. I'm pretty new to this site so I'm not sure how it works, but I've seen people mention 'account sitting'? How does that work? What are the rules? How do I find someone to do that for me? I guess I'm just looking for a general explanation. Thanks in advance. Oh, and sorry if this is explained elsewhere on the site. Perhaps I missed it when I looked.

How Much Is Everyone Muting?
I ask becuase I see folks saying they're muting folks in threads more and more...and it just seems like a shame and almost unfair to me, really...granted I'm probably one of the most-muted on the site--at least I would guess I am--but even so, all the more reason I just can't mute anyone..."if you can't stand the heat"...? You can't have it both ways, give a critical opinion and erect a shield to deflect all criticism, even if that "criticism" is a foolish troll, yes?

An Education in Economics
Liberals have the mistaken and baseless idea that government creates jobs, that government creates demand that stimulates the economy, and that any time there is a great reduction in government spending a recession will result.

Looking for sitter
I'll be away for 5-6 days next week and still have a couple games running. It shouldn't be too huge of a time commitment if anyone is willing, since one is a 4 day phase world game in which I have only a single unit. The other is a game in the summer gunboat tournament, so someone not part of that would be preferred.
I hope I'm not asking too much with only a few days notice, but if someone with a good reputation would PM me saying they can, I would be extremely grateful.

Why is it that opinions put forth to justify government monopolies to deal with social problems consistently rely on mythical victims instead of truth or logic?

"You don't seem to understand Santa Claus that "historians" work in universities and an award of $500 would do what for them?"

I cited this to show that indeed I do know how to make a historical argument because one of my historical arguments won a $500 award, it was a throwaway line, but you focused on it nonetheless. Think what you want about me with your nasty ad hominim attacks, I am a historian, I have a degree from a prestigious university to prove it, and I have had some of the greatest American Historians compliment my work. Who the fuck you are I have no idea, just someone who sidesteps arguments by making personal attacks.

"You don't understand history or how it's funded either. "

Sure as fuck do, I also know that until I go for or get a Phd its very hard to apply for grants, but that is neither here nor there, as usual your response is completely irrelevant.
How can you possibly say Fogel's work hasn't been challenged. "Time on the Cross" has been roundly panned and is a punchline in history seminars. It is taught in Historiography classes as an archaic approach to history that lost credence by the early nineties. I have no experience learning Fogel's Railroads and American Economic Growth, but I know that it is seen as flawed by many historians from conversations I've had.

And Finally, what does it matter. This was not even my argument, Fogel deals with the impact of the Railroads on the US GDP, I am talking about federal funding of railroads, yet again you name drop a book you heard about to try to lend credence to your argument that isnt even addressed in the book.

Santa, you're wasting your time.

TC is not only ignorant, but is proud of that fact. And if you point this out to him, he'll do one of three things:

1. Ignore you completely
2. Attempt to distract you with irrelevancy
3. Attack you personally.

And he wonders why nobody takes him seriously.

"I have no experience..... but I know."
That combination defines your historical approach Santa Claus.
You simply talk out of your ass.
I guess you are unaware that vanquished the critics of "Time on the Cross" with his massive rebuttal, "Without Consent or Contract."
The only criticism of "Time on the Cross" was from the Political Correct crowd like the race baiter Gaines.
Fogel established the fact that the traditional idea that railroads were crucial to America's development was false, and in Time on the Cross he destroyed the idea that slavery was not profitable and would die on its own.
His research showed that slavery was tremendously profitable and that the income from slave owners financed much of the economic expansion of the northern textile industry.

Of course you are ignorant of that because you simply don't know history and talk out of your ass from the dailykos or a dated textbook for undergrads that became anachronistic long ago.

So keep posting that the government supported the economy by giving Indian land to railroads when the railroads weren't even critical to the economy.

And above all keep posting nothing specific.

It's just amazing to see someone claiming to be a historian post "I have no experience learning Fogel's railroads...."

He is the only economic historian to win a nobel prize and Santa Claus doesn't even know about it.
What a joke.
Just like its amazing to see someone claiming to "know history" claim that the Continental Army and the Militia were the same thing, that the Transcontinental Railroad was not assisted by the Federal Government, That Time on the Cross is somehow established as a foundational work on slavery? A book that takes evidence from one plantation and uses that evidence writ large throughout the whole south? A book that is extremely controversial to the point where it is actually taught to students about what NOT to do in history. You are out of your mind, it was a mistake ever unmuting you one that I wont make again.

It isn't surprising that Santa Claus has a mind easily manipulated.

TC, you're rapidly turning from an amusing joke, to a tiresome bore.

You need a new thing. Maybe take up something that doesn't strain your abilities... likes stamp collecting.

Because this thing... here? Its boring. You're not interested in an actual discussion, but only in spouting your misinformation and mediocrity. At least Krellin is amusing(like watching a cop cornhole a drunken fratboy)... but you. You're tiresome.

"You need a new thing. Maybe take up something that doesn't strain your abilities... likes stamp collecting." - Yeah, but you know what they say; Philately will get you nowhere.
(That joke works better if you say it aloud rather than read it. Though I use the word "works" quite wrongly as the joke is completely terrible.)

"Why is it that TC's posts rely on complete stupidity and ad hominum instead of truth and logic?" Thought that would be a better topic.

Hysteria & Welfare State Bankruptcy
In the current budget debate you see two viewpoints-the House of Representatives realizes the Welfare State is bankrupt with $200 Trillion in deficits and unfunded liabilities. The Obama administration and the Senate think everything will be fine if they raise taxes and keep pumping devalued dollars into the economy.

gunboats are stupid and ruin diplomacy
the point of diplomacy is exactly what it says. DIPLOMACY. When we get rid of ingame messaging it does away with the crucial factor of diplomacy and results in no improvement of luck. It actually makes the game far more random and chancy than it should be. I believe that we need to get rid of this option to allow DIPLOMACY to take its course. Please add your comments about this.
