Game Error
For some reason, instead of showing how long each of my games has until the next phase, they all just say "NOW" which normally isn't the case unless it just became the new turn. Im wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem and if so how did they fix it?

Kubla Con/San Francisco Face to Face event Ranking System
At the Kubla Con F2F event, we had 3 previously all Email players playing FtF for the first time and they loved it. The ranking system uses separate scoring systems for each round so that you have to vary your play style.

Draw or win?
I understand the Gunboat WTA games exist, but why in regular games does it seem like players more interested in Draws than Wins? I think draws are reasonable when there are true stalemates, but VERY few other times. It bugs me for people to suggest ones, when it is clear someone could take an 18th sc. Thoughts or opinions on why its better to draw? Anyone?

watching this game
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=60217, i don't believe anyone plans on drawing even though there are 3 CD's and they're the central powers. so i think this game will be england and france vs. turkey and russia?

I have a question...
What do you do when someone tells you in game to fuck off? Is that a sign that I did something wrong, or that they're just rude?
You send:

http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_laiu2rfNXY1qcri1xo1_500.png
lol that's a good one
Honestly, even if I did something wrong, if someone's resorting to "fuck off" there's generally no chance of good diplomacy as it stands, so I see no reason to bother and just satiate my inner troll
They might be engaging in "chainsaw diplomacy", hoping to intimidate you with their display of unreasonableness. You'll worry that they might go all out against you even if it would be irrational to do so. The test is probably whether they then come back with some demands. If they don't, they're probably just rude or unreasonably wrapped up in the game.

You're all approaching this from the wrong angle :)

People don't say 'fuck off' for no reason - something is usually wrong or they are Druagnar.

Maybe you offended the person in some way goldfinger - or maybe they were having a bad week - or maybe they were being sarcastic.

So many reasons. I'm glad we have a thread to explore this one...
but it's so much easier and more fuuuuun to screw with people who mad :/

and if they're sarcastic, they usually appreciate the sarcastic response, so nothing lost there

Yeah, that's true - banter is good in long Diplomacy games :)
ahh yes, good insight Sarg. And since I'm pretty sure its not Draug, I will go at it from your angle :)

My favorite conversation is as follows:

(Italy) Wed 18 May Spring, 1901: NAP? DMZ Tyrolia? I would like to establish good relations - get back to me on this one.
(Austria)Wed 18 May Spring, 1901: no
(Austria)Wed 18 May Spring, 1901: no
(Austria)Wed 18 May Spring, 1901: no

Actual thing.
lol, manganese +1

also Marshall that shit is hilarious

"Hey England, I know I'm Turkey and we're on opposite ends of the board, but I like to touch base and say hi to everyone at the start."

"Fuck you."

Actually happened.
I think I'm going to use that one for lulz next time I play you, SD
Also, not quite the same thing, but pretty funny nonetheless. I just finished a live game against someone who quit in the middle of it because he "had to go to work," coinciding with his imminent crushing. I just got a PM from this same player inviting me to another live game, same settings, starting in five minutes. l. o. l.

That would be great. And yeah, half-hour shifts, wish I worked that.

(Actually, I wish I worked anything. Unemployment sucks. But yeah, half hour shifts, bro. Serious business.)

Is that "or" really necessary? I think it could be replaced by a "for instance:"
Man. This almost makes me want to start playing normal games instead of gunboats. I hadn't considered that I could just tell every single person to fuck off.

I once told Russia to fuck off after he told me (Austria) that he planned to move to Galicia in 1902, when E/G were knocking on the door and I had repeatedly tried to get him to ally with me.

It was a little much, and I had had a few drinks, but I apologized for the coarse language the next day, and we did renew our alliance long enough to eliminate Turkey. So yeah, it doesn't necessarily mean that you can't work with someone, but in general, such language can mean someone is not very reasonable.

Diplomacy
Cheers to all,

I was out and about browsing through various Diplomacy pages and came across this site. Quite interesting how many from different ages and skill levels can indeed play here. As an advanced Diplomacy player myself long out of practice, I would like to challenge the best on this website. There is only one way to be the best, it's to play the best. So hello all again, but I challenge you advanced players to a game. Look forward to playing with you.
