I was France, and got off to a rocky start with a very anti-French opening from England, as well as guessing wrong that England would assume I would cover my center and go to mao. Thankfully, Germany had its own problems and neither it or Italy joined in, which would have doomed me. I was able to recover, and basically fight a progressive stalemate in the north, capturing London and having a lucky guess on spain.
I was a bit surprised by the English play. It seemed like even after his opening failed, and I had shown signs of being willing to support his survival, he continued to choose whatever course of action would disfavor me, regardless of its effects on his own fate.
The game was ruined by a 8-center Italy CDing mid game. The game should have been drawn at this point -- There were three powers left not in CD, and they were roughly equal.
Russia nonetheless refused to cancel, drawing it out for another HOUR before realizing that Turkey and I were in a position to reach him from getting eighteen. Poor form.
In the last hour, it was clear I could whittle away with fleets and gain a center (Holland) while preventing any russian advances. Thats the way it played out, but it had to be played out for over an hour.
