What should be done with America's government?
How do you think Americans should improve America's government? Should it be immediately replaced, or slowly reformed? Or perhaps, should it not change at all?

Individual, society, or both?

Idea
Instead of rules, FAQ, etc, the help section should explain in detail, using diagrams and text, exactly what WTA means. It should explain the value of survival in these games vs. defeats.

gunboat opening statistics
i saw a series of articles about gunboat strategy, and it had a statistical list of the most common openings made in a series of gunboat games. I didn't bookmark it and now, for the life of me, i can't find it.

can someone provide me the link, please?

Stabbers vs Carebears
So the topic's open. How do you define yourself?
Are you really mad when someone stabs you, or do you accept it?
Would you prefer playing with stabbers or with carebears (take into acount that carebears won't stab you, but also won't stab your foes)?

Animal Rights vs. Bacon?
The Question is:
Should animals be given rights? Do they deserve a right to life? What constitutes deserving? Should humans stop eating meat, and even go as far as not using any animal products whatsoever? Webdiplo community, you like interesting debates, so what are your thoughts on this?

Captains do not know who is in each game. They merely setup the game and send the link and password to TrustMe who then emails the captain and six others who all join. At no point do the captains know who the others are.

P-man, I gave you one points to get you up to 5 D. You've got three weeks to get one of your other games done so you'll have some more points to work with.
TrustMe (106 D)
16 Jan 11 UTC
Thanks, Alderian. I should be the only one who can tell who is in what game and I am really trying to avoid that but just looking at IDs (the number) and emails. But I am afraid it is unavoidable in some cases. TheGhostMaker or another mod will be realigning the games and that only uses IDs (the number), so it will be as anonymous as possible. Four games are set up and emails have gone out. Waiting on the other Captains to set up the games and get back with me.

Thank you Alderain, I have a game ending soon, in probably less than a week, and will have points then to give back and to enter the new round

All, just wanted to let everyone know, I have updated the tournament website (http://tournaments.webdiplomacy.net/themasters/masters-2011) and am still waiting on a few Captains to set up 3 of the games. So if you haven't gotten an email yet don't worry. I did send out an email to those that did not make the cut and are on the Alternate List.

After everyone has joined we will be mixing up the countries so please don't enter orders. Also games will be setup as gunboat initially w/ 7 day phases. Once games are set, we will be fixing the phases and messaging.

I'd just like to clarify the anonymous nature of this tourney. Is the tournament totally anonymous, we don't see a list of who is in each of the games? But we do know the 49 people in the tournament---is it numbers 1 thru 49 in this thread? And what happens when a game is finished, do those 7 names get revealed in the usual manner? Thanks.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
16 Jan 11 UTC
I don't have official answers but can make some suppositions.

From the link TrustMe posted above (http://tournaments.webdiplomacy.net/themasters/masters-2011) you can see the participant list. So we know the 49 players but not who is in each game until it is over.

The way anon games work on webdip, it is revealed who you played against when the game ends, so you will know that. Assuming some players drop out and are replaced by alternates, you won't even be sure of who is in your last running game once all the other games are done. You could figure out who is likely in it, but wouldn't know for sure.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
16 Jan 11 UTC
TrustMe, on the 2009-2010 masters page, it shows who the alternates were replacing. With this being anon it would probably be better to just add the alternates to the end of the list when they join a game and not indicate who has dropped out until the very end. Just a thought.
kislikd (840 D)
16 Jan 11 UTC
Alderian - while it does show the alternates and who they replaced, it is not clear whether that information was added as they were replaced, or after the tournament finished, or even after whatever point the names were made visible to all participants.

I think it's safe to assume that TrustMe has a plan and that it will be executed in the most appropriate fashion. While it is a correct suggestion, I want to think that TrustMe has already thought of issues similar to that (I don't mean to make you sound nosy or anything, but I have been in charge of events like this and know that it can be very bothersome to have everyone and their mother making suggestions that have already been incorporated).

Thanks again to TrustMe for running the tourney. And good luck everyone. :)

TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

@kislikd, it was added as they were replaced. Last year was before anon games were introduced.

Then I will hold my tongue. :)
TrustMe (106 D)
17 Jan 11 UTC
Lol, thanks for all the suggestions. I will be adding folks to the end as they replace others. Just have one hold out Captain, if I don't hear by end of tomorrow, I have someone else create the game.
I'm sure TrustMe will take care of alternates in a fair and equitable manner. I trust him.
