ok sorry to like bust into your college chat here everyone, but im starting college in less than a year, and im curious, whats it really like? ive got mixed opinions from family and friends.

@ Bob Geng- why yes i am, we have sort of got a mascot once more after years and years without one. I dont know how i feel about it though.

haha yes yes and yes :) though i dont frequent waterstreet to much meaning ever i'd rather not get mugged by a group of wasted stoned witc . . . i mean young ladies.

@butterhead- it depends on a couple things like where you're going, how ready you are to move on etc. personally college was the greatest step in my life so far

im ready to get out of this lame town(and move 30 minutes away to ODU), so im pretty ready to move on, just nervous at the same time.

I had two very good friends go to UWEC. I was a Goph, myself, back in the late 90's.

College is awesome, and I never wanted to leave.

Here's what college is: a bunch of 18 and 19 year olds of the gender of your choice, away from home for the first time and eager to experience things. Don't have a significant other; it's a complete waste.

ah, college, I kind of remember it all those many years ago ... that was my era without Diplomacy though, I played a lot in high school and then a lot after, but too many other activities in college

i guess i really did learn something i didnt already know from my history teacher last year, lol. my history teacher went to the U of MN aswell. always talks about his golden gophers and how good/bad there football team does in certain games. I always planned on goin to VT when i graduate, but Instead im going to ODU, they have a really good education program and i can get my masters degree in 5 years.

You can get your masters in education in 5 years just about anywhere.

yes but this place also has one of the best education programs in my area of the state, and actually many virginia schools it takes 6 years to get a masters, which seems odd since so many others you can get it in 5.

Virginia talk? I am from William & Mary, as is my wife and my twin was from UVA, brother in law VT, sister in law James Madison, etc...

i think you ment virginia tech rancher, and ive never met anyone from any of those schools, who have said they got a masters in less than 6 years, or that there school has a better education program( to avoid any confusion, i dont mean staff, i mean a program training future teachers, like myself) than ODU. if what ive been told is false, please tell me

Typically, people take 4 years for an undergrad degree and then two for a Masters. Thus, the 6 years. It's becoming a trend to have a combined undergrad/Master programs that can be completed in 5 years. Depending on the subject and other factors, these can either be great or terrible programs.

no, you're pretty much right ODU is great for Education, absolutely ... no idea about masters timing, I went to law school all those years ago

ahh the ole golden gophers, i originally wanted to go there for architecture also known as there 6 year plan from hell :) though some weird complications involving lack of support from the parental units made it so that i would never go there. now i'm at eau claire.

i am from texas originally, and i got into rice...but texas is really hot. i'm not too into the heat ;-]

college is fun. don't have a girlfriend. don't even bring them with you. waste of time.

i will say this if you happen to get a girlfriend while at college, it will either be like 3 weeks long or a couple years to forever, depending on whether she divorces you or not for sitting on your fat ass and playing diplomacy :)
