On metagaming and Diplomacy - a few quotes
It seems that quite a few people here have a negative opinion on so-called "metagaming". Metagaming is a term for using information that is not usually available inside the game.
I think that metagaming IS the real Diplomacy. I've collected a few quotes by famous Diplomacy players that might be interesting for you:

Can't see the message board in the game
Any ideas why I can't see the message board in one game (http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=37178) but I can see it in others?

WalnutCreek Game...
It's been in the "Open" tab because it is paused, and I finally opened up the game and saw they haven't been online for 500-700 days!!!! Someone should delete that game/tell them by email to draw/cancel. I'm sick of looking at that game.

Request for a Tournament Director - Grand Festive Diplomacy Tournament
This was a really great tournament which last began 2 years ago now. Since then thewonderllama has been unable to run this tournament. Much as I like to be reigning champion in a diplomacy tournament, I want to see this tournament revived. If there is anyone interested in reviving and running this tournament, I would love to hear from them, and will help them to realise it.

Is this time for that? Really?
It's almost over and I hope Austria learnt a very important lesson. Don't stab the gut who is holding down the stalemate line. He may just give it up.

CDing should reduce your ability to regenerate
Maybe this is just annoyance at having a game ruined, but I think CDing regularly should reduce how many points you get back when you go under 100.

Retreat after dislodgement
Suppose an army tries to move from A to B, however, it is being bounced and doesn't make it to B. In addition, another army (with support) enters A, so the army that was in A is forced to retreat.
Can it retreat to B?

God Created The Heaven And The Earth...And Deleted Humanity As A Facebook Friend
Just a fun idea I had at 4:30 in the morning--what if God had a Facebook account? (I already feel sillier just typing that lol...) :p
Is God the type who has like 1,000 friends and adds every person he meets, or the kind who has maybe 50 at the most and rarely talks too much...has he deleted us? Who's he friends with? What apps does he use? Or is God that guy who goes "Facebook is DUMB!"...and is a closeted Facebook fiend? ;) (Just have fun with it, no fighting....)
Serioussham (446 D)

I don't think he'd be your friend for long if you kept writing this shite on his wall!

I think God got annoyed with so many messages and just deleted Humanity as a Friend...I can see it now...

*Turns on computer*

Oh, geez, 37 notifications?! "'Baptist Church has posted something on your Wall'...'Evangelical Church has posted something on your Wall'...'First Temple of Orthodox Judaism has sent you a message'...J'. Christ has replied to your post 'So, What's Up For This Sunday, Guys? PAR-TAY!''...'Richard Dawkins has poked you,' I REALLY need to delete him...'Pat Robertson has sent you a message,' and it looks like he sent three, actually, I'll delete him first, as soon as I'm done with that...'M0_ses has sent you an invite to play Farmville,' how many times do I have to tell him I hate those things?...Epicurus has responded to your post 'So, What's Up For This Sunday, Guys? PAR-TAY!''...Oh, no way is HE invited, first he questions me and then he proceeds to drink all the beer and call it 'My...'s my philossososphy, man...'"

:p

@Serioussham:

Probably not lol...I said let's just have FUN, SERIOUSsham...and besides, like I always say when folsk ask me "why do you post ths crap": if you don't like it then don't respond...or maybe this'll be the world's lucky day and God will delete me. ;)

Almost four times as many people have liked Megan Fox on facebook as have liked God.

God's not really the sort of person you like, to be fair. I mean, yes, lots of people ask Him to come to their weddings, but He rarely gets an invite to the stag dos the night before, or even the reception afterwards.

Another "God" Thread, how boring...
Octavious (2701 D)
06 Sep 10 UTC
I'm not sure how a man who only seems to play gunboats these days has the right to call anyone else boring :p
@Ghost

Perhaps but nobody thinks it's trivializing their religious beliefs to say "Hey I like Megan Fox!" on facebook, right? Ya' weren't really thinking every Christian in the world would vote on that, we're you?

@Oct: I've discovered him at many a stag do . . . hiding down the toilet.
orathaic (1009 D(B))

God has every right to only play gunboat, it's a much more challenging way of being a supreme being (and when you're a supreme being the lack of challenge is the only thing which can bore, right?)

now God playing diplomacy would just be unfair, unless he tries to spread peace across the board by words alone...
Timur (673 D(B))

Yeah, then we could have an infinite game, everyone holding and living in peace until the end of time. Well, our allotted lifespan. We'd know when players had gone to their maker when they finally CD'd. Of course, they could always pass the baton to the next generation . . .

"Perhaps but nobody thinks it's trivializing their religious beliefs to say "Hey I like Megan Fox!" on facebook, right? Ya' weren't really thinking every Christian in the world would vote on that, we're you?"

Admittedly, yes. That doesn't stop me from being amused.
I have noticed that Megan Fox isn't coming out and saying "Hey I'm four times more popular than God", I guess we can credit the Beatles for showing us why that's not such a good idea ;-)
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
06 Sep 10 UTC
LOL

I like the Beatles comment...too true, if they had been alive today Lennon saying they were more popular than Jesus have just referred to an Internet site instead of making a statement about society today...

Then again, if the Beatles were around today they'd probably all be home playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band...music today, ughhh...CA, I ask you--what loving God would bring such wicked plagues upon us as Justin Bieber and the Jonas Boys?

Although perhaps Megan Fox being 4x more popular than "God" is really an Act of God...maybe SHE'S trying to tell us something? ;)
Mafialligator (239 D)

Or maybe it's because Megan Fox has nice boobs.
God...not so much.
One that loves Justin Bieber and the Jonas Boys as much as he loves me ;-)

But how could a JUST God love what is essentially three balls of greasy hair connected to screechy bodies that rip off everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) from the Beatles and other famous bands and the like (and if you doubt that...http://www.fanpop.com/spots/the-jonas-brothers/images/12524240/title/jonas-la-album-cover-photo ...Abbey Road AND The Beach Boys, all in one go? I almost feel bad for calling Gaga unoriginal...as a singer and musician maybe, but I'll concede at least that music video was originally produced and shot...)

I thought it was Four Horsemen of the Apocolypse...was it changed to Three Screeching, Stealing Hairballs when I wasn't looking? ;)

And Mafialligator...LOL...but wait--if God has infinite form, doesn't that mean His, erm, Her boobs would be...? (Really, it made sense two thousand years ago, but if God's infinite in form, why's it always "He?" I'm calling in a two-stroke PC-penalty on you, God!) ;)

"But how could a JUST God love what is essentially three balls of greasy hair connected to screechy bodies that rip off everything" - Perhaps because they apparently have made a pledge to remain virgins until married? That sort of thing is supposed to be important to god right? That's what conservatives tell me anyway.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
06 Sep 10 UTC
Yeah, sorry...

I'm not buying into the whole "chastity belt" thing with them--come on, they're teenagers (allegedly) and rock stars (allegedly) and teen idols that are cute (allegedly)...

Who REALLY thinks that not one of them is going to have sex?

That's sort of like saying "I'm going to be an Olympic diver but I won't get wet until I consent to a shower later..."

And if they did keep to that...come on THAT'S not being a rock star!

You can debate the merits of the Beatles and the Stones and Metallica and Iron Maiden and Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley and all the rest...

When you're a rock star, you have sex and drink and/or do drugs at some point and party like crazy...that's just part of the deal! A rock star not having sex or drinking or doing drugs is like JAMES BOND not having sex or drinking in a movie...I mean, really two sides of the same fantasy, Rock Stars and James Bond, right? Sex with beautiful women, you can drink enough to wear out five livers and you nstill go on ticking, fast cars, great parties... ;)

which "God?" The generic higher power? The senile I-love-you-all-very-much-here's-some-candy grandpa type? The stereotypical fire-and-brimstone type? Allah? All persons of the trinity together, or just one of them?
baumhaeuer (245 D)

but anyway,
I don't think they have an internet connection up there, do they? *The Father gets an internet connection, Jesus joins fb, everyone realizes it's the real thing, fb crashes cause of all the friend requests, but then Jesus has to quit fb because the Father doesn't want to pay the monthly isp bill after he receives the first bill in the mail (can you imagine how much it must cost to get an internet connection up there?)*
That's what I always thought would happen.

I was wondering if any of you knew of volunteer organizations that help and work to build up local communities. I am interested in getting involved in one but am having a bit of a hard time finding them.

Notification Problem with a Game
On my home page, a message came up for a game, "This user was banned, see game for details." However, it's a "No in-game messaging, Anonymous players" game, so can't see the chatbox.
Not a problem as it would just mean we wouldn't details of who was banned - but the notification at the top of each page for that game won't disappear as the 'Global Notification' is still being marked as unread.
