I only send an average of one text a day.

One of my daughters, on the other hand, has a Vodafone account with "Unlimited" texts. Sadly, Vodafone have redefined some words in the English language and it turns out that "Unlimited" actually means "3000 a month". I know this because on her last bill (which I have to pay) she had exceeded that amount by 24.

Yes, she sent three thousand and twenty four texts in a month! So on average she sends more than 100 text messages a day!

I have finally broken down and supplied my two eldest with cell phones. I get the bill, of course.

900 texts or so, in a two week period. The youngest(going into grade 12 this year) is responsible for about 800 of them, I'm sure.

Ah, parent supplying kids' texting plans. As one of the teenage brats that texts (=P), I can give you a word of advice: if Mapleleaves I-III end up liking someone of the opposite sex, brace yourself. (From my experience, most teenage guys don't text an absurd amount to each other, but girls are all over that shit, and the guys adapt accordingly. So the rate tends to skyrocket.)

@Speaker: How the... never mind, that's frightful. I don't think I've ever sent more than 30.

@TGM - Yes. My eldest(going into 2nd year Uni) had his phone for a week before. In that week he sent about 50. I think that his usage will actually go down. He has a guitar in his hand, most of the time.

As for necessity, texting in general isn't necessary, but it's convenient (particularly with aforementioned teenage romance crap). That rate is just absurd, though. >.>

@P.E. - Neither are half as girl-crazy as I was, but both are way more popular(I know I know - hard to believe. lol.)

If I'm planning something, I text a lot. Otherwise, maybe 1 a day.

Haha. =P If they're not very girl-crazy then it shouldn't be a problem. (As a small plus, if you notice your bill spikes suddenly, you can probably guess the reason why. And then mess with them as all fathers do. ;D)

When I still had a cell phone paid for by parent(al unit)s, I could get into pretty long text conversations... but I don't know about a hundred a day. Maybe occasionally.

I don't even have a clue. Unlimited data and text on a Blackberry hooked to Windows Live, my personal email, corporate email, and webdip. Total messages in the hundreds per day, easy and probably a couple thousand a week. But, as a IT consultant, I live on my Blackberry. OK, so maybe I did have a clue...

I text maybe 100 a week, on a slow week. can reach up to 100 a day on a good day.

i have unlimited (courtesy of the parents), so that is nice. And as P.E has said, the "good days" are when girls are in the texting mood, hahaha.

I went to bed last night and cleaned out my phones texts so I could give you an accurate number. I've been awake for approximately an hour and have sent and received in excess of 100 texts each.

I send 50-400 texts a week, the former being when I am playing live Diplomacy games every day :P, and the latter when I am with my phone every hour of the week

I send about 300 a month now. Before I met my gf 4 months ago it rarely went above 100 in a month. The first month after we started going out though I send over 600 and went 90 bucks over my phone cap and promptly told her she would be receiving less texts from me since I can't afford to upgrade my plan

I am intrigued to get a response from girls. Do they text more frequently than the boys? And how frequently do girls text each other when there is the irresistible scandal of a new relationship in the air?

Oh my god Flashman, they text faster than you can imagine, when there's a new relationship, spreads everywhere like a wildfire. They have texting powers.

Why do they need men at all then? It seems that all the fun comes from sharing news rather than actually dating.

I send 300-600 a month, depending on the month. The heavy months are generally when I'm dating or trying to get a date.

I can think of much more interesting things to do...

A dozen at most, I still can't justify getting a phone with a full keyboard so texting is tedious as hell (as a qwerty devoted guy, r..s .... d...e .... d...e .. w..x..y ... o ... r..s..t..u......., etc). I usually call back to texts

I usually text between 400-600 a month so I guess that breaks down to about 100-150 a week. 95% to girls aswell. I had never really thought about it but it's crazy how guys basically never text each other. When my parents first got me unlimited texting I did like 175 a day but that stopped fast because my wrists started hurting from carpel-tunnel. hahahaha

I don't know... it may have gone down, the last time I checked was two years ago. That was high school; I texted a lot more then.
