How about a 'historical' set alliance game
I would like to try a set alliance game where the players agree to work in certain alliances as in WW1 (France, England, Russia vs. Turkey, Germany, Austria Hungary). Italy begins as Neutral and must announce a side by 1902.

If so, why didn't gameID=25174 run?

Playing Austria without talking.
On an other website (a francophone one), I am playing Austria in a game where speaking is not allowded : how can I manage to survive? what openning would you play?

I am thinking of Vie-Tyr to prevent an Italian invasion and Bud-Rum to prevent a Russian one. Should I move to Galicia?
chamois (136 D)

I am also thinking about a Vie-Gal, Bud-Rum, but that would be defenseless against Italy

Weirdly I think it's rarer for Russia to really commit to an attack on Austria in the first moves in gunboat (no talking) games. Russia tends to take a turn or two to sort things out with Turkey. Italy can be more of a problem but I don't think I've ever seen Ven-Tyr, Rom-Ven - or just Ven-Tri - as an opener in a gunboat game.

Anyway, Vie-Tyr is outright aggressive but that might work for you, I'd suggest Bud-Ser or you'll end up with no builds which means insta-squish. Overall I prefer to make friends with Italy though. I like Vie-Tri, Tri-Alb, Bud-Ser myself which gives you a shot at two builds, if either of Italy or Russia moves against you you still have at least a chance of holding them off until you get builds, and if both move on you, well you were going to die anyway

I have way too many times, but I would just pray you don't end at war with Italy - it just drags you both down

I like (and have used twice recently) the opening suggested by hopsyturvy - could lead to a nervous autumn if Russia opens to Galicia but if you get those 2 builds you will indeed have a good chance of a long game.

I usually bounce ven for a start, and move to gal and ser
BartSimpson (0 DX)

and if either R or I attack Austria after those moves, its delayed, and tri can move to adriatic, and vie-tri(bounce?) in fall, and build from ser goes to bud..

and of course, venice is first victim.
But i have not seen both Italy and Russia attack A from the start in gunboat unless its a cheat, lol

I'd try for a Balkan gambit: A VIE-GAL, A BUD-SER, F TRI-ALB. This will give you two units on Greece in autumn, but a lot depends on Italy. Another option would be F TRI-VEN, a complete hedgehog. But that may not make you much friends.

Best not to go to RUM, at least not without bouncing in GAL. Either T or R or combined will kick you out easily.
chamois (136 D)

The problem is that most of the time Russia move to Galicia. I thought that if you keep Russia out of Galicia and Rum, Bud will be safe and you are almost sure that you will get Serbia since Turkey will probably try to take Rum.
hopsyturvy (521 D)

I think an empty Tri is too tempting for Italy in the fall. Ven usually holds in the spring, but every time I've left Tri empty Italy sneaks in, after which you're basically finished. If you bounce in Gal in the spring then Vie can cover Tri in the fall - but if you wind up in Gal then you've made an enemy of Russia *and* bent over for Italy at the same time - not a good situation to be in!

As I thought, Begin this type of game with Austria is desasperated. ='(

I've done OK with Austria in gunboats. You often get left alone at first as everyone takes Austria for a weak power. If you can induce get those two builds suddenly you're in a rather strong position. You still need to make alliances though and do it early. Show Italy you're friendly and he'll most likely work with you.

Well, on gunboats I like best a safe opening, with Vie-Gal, Bud-Ser and Trie support hold Venice. This guarantees a build, keep Russia out of your borders and sinalize to Italy you want to make a friend and with a bounce on Greece on the Fall you also keep Turkey under control or if you have Gal you can consider leave Greece to Turkey and attack Rum.

So I Saw Jesus, Moses, and Muhammad Walking To The Deli Earlier- Really! (Really?)
My friends and theologians here often mention the above figures. They're so important to religion. Chrstians believe Jesus is the messiah... but if he DID return- would you recognize him? How to distinguish him from that loony in Central Park in the robe and long hair... with the skepticism of our society... how would you KNOW it was "Him?" I presume magicians and tricksters can find ways of "walking on water," so miracles aside- HOW?
