Russia Statistic
I need to relearn how to program (I haven't since Hyperstudio: go ahead and laugh all you programmers who know what that is lol ^_^) because this was boringly tedious and I would prefer statistics where I could play with the parameters being analyzed via a user friendly program

How much evidence is enough?
So, say I've watched the records of a pair of players and they consistently join games together and are always on the same side and always stab their allies to benefit the other player. How much evidence is enough to report them? The FAQ was a bit vague.

Am I the only one that wishes the !! didn't go away until valid orders are entered? this seems like it would make more sense anyway. Would this be too hard to code?

Does this sea region share a border with baltic sea?
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))

no. to get from one to the other, you must go through denmark or sweden.
Wolf89 (215 D)

i was referring to the official rulebook, page 6, diagram 5. it looks like it has to border it.
djbent (2572 D(S))

it doesn't.

ok, thanks. but you have to admit that that picture is quite confusing!
djbent (2572 D(S))
04 Nov 09 UTC
yes but the map is pretty clear.
Wolf89 (215 D)

actually there is some water at northeast of kiel also in the map, but in the official rulebook it looks to be connected with Heli, while here not.
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))
04 Nov 09 UTC
it is confusing. the edge of the zone along the baltic is considered to be only denmark. sorta sucks so dont keep a fleet there too long.
djbent (2572 D(S))
04 Nov 09 UTC
yes but it's clearly delineated as part of denmark, not part of baltic or skag.
Wolf89 (215 D)
04 Nov 09 UTC
not so clearly, dj, at least on my sight.

If you do choose to go from Heligoland to Baltic via Sweden don't expect to make it in two moves.
djbent (2572 D(S))
04 Nov 09 UTC
heh heh, yes, that's true. were you talking about hel or ska, wolf89?

You can clearly see the national border above the Kiel Canal. I don't think the rulebook could be any clearer:
"Kiel and Constantinople: Because of the waterways that run
through these two provinces, they’re considered as having one coast.
Fleets can enter them along one coast and be considered anywhere
along the coastline. For example, a Fleet could move from the Black
Sea to Constantinople on one turn (“F Bla–Con”) and then on a later
turn move from Constantinople to the Aegean Sea (or other adjacent
provinces). Likewise, a Fleet could move from Holland to Kiel on
one turn and then move from Kiel to Berlin on a later turn (through
the Kiel Canal) without having to go around or go to Denmark.
Armies can also pass into and out of these provinces, freely bridging
these waterways. This doesn’t mean that units can jump over
these provinces."

Here is a better, searchable and copyable publication of the rules: http://www.stabbeurfou.org/docs/regles/en/diplomacy_rulebook.pdf

A Movement to bring back
First off, I want it to be known that I am in awe of the new update kestas is working on. I think it makes the site so much faster and easier to use and am excited for its full implementation! That being said... I feel that the terms "Update" and "Finalize" are so much more classy than "Update" and "Save" -- which are somewhat awkward and boring. Anyone with me, please voice your opinion here!

Game strategies for newbies
Hello everyone. I'm new to this site but played Diplomacy a bit at college years ago.
After browsing the forums a bit I've noticed mentions of named strategies in some posts e.g. "Alpine ambush" (I think this one was a joke though).
Is there somewhere that such strategies are displayed/discussed?
I 'm just looking to speed up my re-learning of the game and don't have the spare lifetime to trawl through all the games on the site.

Is this considered cheating?
Ok, I just finished an anon gunboat game, and decided to see who the two people I drew against were. They are judas User ID#: 18497, and duzenko User ID#: 18431. duzenko has finished 17 games, and judas has finished 18 games. ALL of duzenko's games have been with judas. And they have allied in each game. How wrong is this? I feel that I could have won the game had they not been 'allied' in the anon gunboat game. Seriously, let's ruin the fun.

I was just wondering what everyones opinions were about this. Do non-talkers find the talkers annoying games distractions and do the talkers find the non-talkers boring game killers.

I have my big persuasive speech on Thursday for Comm. my topic: advocating (and adapting here and there) Nietzsche's Superman and call for man to mentally evolve- and grow out of its "Church phase." Thoughts on 1) my idea and 2) even if you hate it, how I can present it best?

A First Comparison in the Progression of WIn % of Diplo Countries
I just took a quick survey of 200 non-anon, ppsc, public games ranging from the dates of Aug '06 - Mar '07. These are win percentage stats for the seven countries (it should be noted that Dangermouse won a lot of these games regardless of what country he played as). In the near future I will take more recent stats and compare them to see if there are any significant changes, and thus will make any potential theory for any possible revolution in Diplomacy Strategy to account for the change...
