We should have a game where seven people apply up and people try to guess everybody. We post each year(in the game) who we think it is.
And at the end we see who was right the most times. Anybody up for it?

Best Phase Length for Live Game
I'm looking for feedback from people who have tried the 5 and 10 min phase length. was it enough time for a live game? I want to set up a live game on Sat. , not a gunboat game, but a fast paced game. If you want to be in a live game tomorrow, please state your time preference.

Moderators, anyone?
Is there a form to get a moderator's attention?
I took on someone who's now refusing to finalize a retreat order, just to spite me and it's slowing the game for everyone. I know we all agreed to 1.5day long turns, which I can wait out, but I don't want the other players to become frustrated with the whole game because this guy's just trying to spite me.
I'll provide more details to a Moderator.

NMR stinks...
When you work so hard to get a draw from a nasty stab and then one of the players NMR. Of course the one with the chance to win is hoping that trend will continue. I will not play with this person again. I know people have a record of CD but what about a game that is a loss to 3 people because one has a history of NMR???

backstabbers.. cant stand them
i just want to find a game where i can actually trust somebody. i know the point of the game is to win, but its at least nice to find someone who is willing to cooperate with you. im getting backstabbed in a few of my games now and it totally sucks. Phaedrus, Adler, im talking about you. discuss.

it's kind of pathetic. england could take the victory in two turns, but i imagine he won't.

Turkey could have won at least 8 turns ago, and the game is still going.

Backstabbing is what keeps the game interesting, really. Keeps you on your toes.

not a fan of those who backstab on the first turn though!

New to the forum. Backstabbing is part of the game, and often times you can leverage it in forms of sympathy for others. Not my preferred tactic, personally, but it's all part of the game.
First turn bounces are common on the Turkey/Russia border. It doesn't necessarily mean a thing.
In the game I'm in, Russia and Turkey bounced right away in the Black Sea, but have not clashed since.
I'm trusting Russia to not take Norway while I take on Germany. I've set myself up to be stabbed in the back, but it's all part of the game really.

@JECE-That is ridiculous. What are they trying to prove?
I have played with you and can't see how you pissed them off that bad...

Imagine a game with all trustworthy players. Germany and England (England and France or Germany and France) make an alliance, but neither can lie to France (Germany or England), so they either don't talk with him or they tell him the truth. In this case France is most likely overpowered by two countries. There's not much point to talking to your enemies, cause they wouldn't betray each other. And there's no information to gather cause you already know the alliances.

You could also take that to another level, if two players are losing to two other players, and one of them is substantially more powerful, then no one could beat him. You can't convince his lesser ally to betray him.

This just seems dull and too simple. There would be so little communication because players would lose one of their greatest allies, reason and logic in a discussion.

I suppose you might hope that you just have one player that would be trustworthy and all the others have their own ways of playing. If you play that way, then your essentially meta-gaming (you have one ally that won't betray you under any condition, is that fair?), which then might result in everyone else teaming up on you.

I used to think in similar manners back when Risk was my favorite game. I thought that if you wanted a game of players that would not betray each other, you could not have alliances, because eventually someone would be betrayed in a FFA game (except for my few friends who thought it was funny to declare world peace). I thought this gave me an advantage because I had superior strategic planning, and in a game without alliances, strategy is everything. I was basically arguing a useless point, because alliances and betrayal are also important in Risk. I was just trying to argue a point that would help me just like your point would help you. Granted my forceful personality when playing risk, forced everyone to loosely follow my rules.

Anyway, this past December, I discovered Diplomacy, and my mind was blown away.

tailboarder: And a successful game it was :-) No, neither of them are angry with me at all. Those two know each other in real life, Germany confided in Autumn 1906. I still thought he might actually try to play the game and try to keep Turkey from victory, but this was not so. Germany addmitted:
Me: What did Duce II tell you, anyway? 'Go ahead and kill JECE yourself. I am not helping you, though, since I would rather fall asleep' ?
Germany: lol he said...well nothing really i just said get 17scs and let me get 16 then you can get the win cause i want to milk this game dry ive been losing my other ones

I need to make note of that one. Well with the anon games that doesn't matter cause they will pull the same kind of thing just more successfully. Have you notified a Mod? I think that is meta gaming. It is certainly unfair. I have played one game with someone I know. The very first thing I did was to post to the global and let everyone know about it. Since there were no objections we played together. FYI I stabbed him for the win...

It's been fun playing with and talking to you people, even the more irritating ones. Diplomacy's a great way to let that streak of deviousness show through without hurting people or risking messing up your life, and I'm very glad I stumbled in here.
