Question for mods
If someone is multi-gaming, are you able to tell just by looking at the network? I mean...I'm seriously getting paranoid that whenver a new player with zero finished game joins my game and seems like an expert already......

This seems really weird...
Of the 46 games I've finished, one has been won by Italy. I know Italy is considered to be the worst country, but a win percentage of just over two percent seems a bit low...

What about you all? Am I just an anomaly?

http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=12124

I've been busy as hell lately, so I'm only playing very slow games. I had 6 points left to spend and started a 72 hr game with them.

Mea Culpa
This is in regards to the babysitting I performed for Bunjeeman on the Dip game:
Bunjeeman asked me to 'babysit' his account for a portion of the weekend - he was going to be indisposed for a period of time, and would only be able to check his page infrequently and didn't want to miss a set of orders.

I've been playing on this server for a while now, and I still don't know what those blue-green dots on the tabs are.

multi accounters
Why do certain people still insist on multi accounting? Apart from the basic honor principle, how fulfilling can it be really? A game I'm in now "pandasun" appears to be the same as "silly", and once one of his other MA's had been exposed seems to have started another. I truly enjoy the challenge of this game, and this site is easily better than others. This is now the third game that MA's have affected thte outcome. Help!

JDip - set up position
Does anyone know if it is possible to set up positions at later stages in the game using JDip? I realize that there is an edit mode but you seem to have to go through the motions of gaining an losing SCs in order to set up advanced positions as the unit count must equal the SC count. Any ideas?

To clear things up!
Hey guys, I just noticed something today while getting pissed at two of my new games. It appears a person named ramblin_fan has joined both games and slipped into CD. Now these are the only two games that he joined and it looks suspicious like I created him. I just want to clear up that I didn't and have nothing to do with him :)

I am a Trekker (so I knw, weird name I have, huh?) and I saw XI the first day and loved it. A sequel (maybe 2, they're not sure yet) is confirmed.

What do YOU want to see next? I would like.....

guilt
Don't you feel guilty of stabbing?
I feel really, really, really (cannot emphasize how much) guilty when I stab someone, especially when you are forced to stab because there's no one else to expand on.

I feel less guilt with an early stab (in the first couple of years) than I do if it's a stab of a long term ally. There has been less commitment to the 'relationship'.

Convincing someone to move away so you can walk in is one of the most satisfying feelings there is in a diplomacy game..

And I can vouch for Babak's style - I've been on the receiving end, but it doesn't always work....

@ jodabomb - thanks mate, so charming (that's called sarcasm - do you know that word?).

Jodabomb seems to think that anyone who attacks him is a fag.

To plagiarize:
If you don't feel guilty you have no heart, if you can't do it you have no brains (or this is simply not your game).
idealist (680 D)

Hey, everyone who claimed they have never stabbed better have a zero% win =)
Because you simply can't win without stabbing.
OMGNSO (415 D)

@idealist: Well it depends on the definition of "stab". Russia can win the juggernaut without ever attacking Turkey because Germany is so centre rich and easy to attack. Does winning by this method count as a "stab" or not?

idealist - are you accusing me of lying... because thats another thing I never do... I NEVER lie.
jasoncollins (186 D)
11 Jul 09 UTC
@ Babak - out of curosity, are you joking? I've thought about this often enough - I hate lying (though I do lie in real life, but im working to not lie) - but I lie freely and without guilt in diplomacy, as someone playing the game is completely aware that everything said is not necessarily true/is a statement specifically meant to garner a particular response. I think it is abit hypocritical when I see gamers who say 'but I didn't lie - see, I actually said this, which implies a particular thing, but if you read it this way, you can tell im not actually lying...' etc. Misleading is obviously a huge part of the game! And if people really see that as being dishonest, then they shouldn't probably be playing.. Perhaps you can view it (or I view it) that prior to every statement there should be a general acknowledgement that 'this may or may not be true - it is simply here to attempt to get you to do a specific action, as everyones posts here are'.

Wow, a long post! But just a summary of what I think :)

And nothing against you at all Babak - I just wonder why people play it but justify that they don't actually lie.

i lie for good purpose, usually. but i hate lying. because when you lie, you have to continue to lie...and it takes a lot of improvisations.

I feel most guilty of stabbing new players (not that I'm Mr. Expert or anything), but folks who just started playing and are having fun, and all of a sudden their ally annihilates them. There's always this message of disbelief from them which makes me feel guilty. I've found that the more experienced players will respond with muffled respect, as that's part of the game.

I never do.. In too many games I have hummed and ha'ed and given the benefit of the doubt to my partner who has then stabbed me two moves later... Get them while you can I say!
idealist (680 D)

hmm...i hate it when you are forced to stab the same person twice in two different games, and when you play him again, he naturally assumes that you are stabbing him.

ahh! every game is different

even though people often deny it pretty much everyone feels bad when the stab an ally usually stabbing is primarily within the first 2 and last 2 years of a game when alliances are not yet put in place and when people need 1 or 2 more supply centers to win

what is the difference between here and facebook version? I know we are not linked and all..but what are everyone's opinions on recruiting them? Won't it make new games easier, because there are more people eager to join?

paranonia
Whenever a player with few games (total game (n): n < 5; no finished game) join my game, and he doesn't reply when I talk to him, or when he talks like he played this game for a long time, I start thinking someone is multi-gaming...and I loss the spirit to play. I think it's paranoia.
