One of my grandfathers and grandmother came from Lesbos. That part of the family goes back on the island to the time of Aristole. So you might say that my grandfather was a Lesbian and that I come from a long line of Lesbians... but I digress.

The game can be addictive to anyone when the game is played even with a modest amount of interest by the other players. There is a reason that the game has been around for 50 years and has been sustained by a devoted core of players over the decades that actually created play by mail games and helped to build game conventions and unique new game styles in the world. For example Gary Gygax the co creator of D&D was first a Diplomacy player. Atkison of Wizards fame was also a Diplomacy player and so forth...

I am mildly addicted, I suspect.

I have the sickness. I go here first when I'm online. I try to avoid it when I'm doing serious work or in serious classes, but it doesn't always work. I once had dreams about a game where I was Austria and was invading England.

I wish I could get people together for a real game. I don't have one myself, the only real games I played were with a friend's set at home. Oh, I'd love to see how one of my friends would react to a vicious stab from me. That'll teach him to beat me in Monopoly...

I am pretty obsessed with this game too. I dream about it. Sometimes I find myself waking up in the morning mentally moving pieces around in my head. It is a great game.

Not that I care, but how can you be playing 13 games right now when your account says you're only playing 5 ;)? But I digress, I am hooked on Diplomacy too, I can't stop checking my orders and playing the game and posting messages either in the forum or in my games. I find that when I start to do well in my games I get progressively more and more addicted to this site lol. I wonder why...

Haha. I remember when I first started here at phpDip, I was obsessed. I would constantly plan out all my moves, and I sent essays to everyone as press. I outlined pretty much all their choices and made a good case for why sticking with me was the best haha. I always managed to find a really good logical argument, and it worked well enough. During those days I had a nearly 50% win rate. I suppose better players came along or I'm not as meticulous now, both of which are true.

I've toned it down a little. I still check it faithfully every time I open my browser, but I've stopped having dreams about it! =D

Also urallLESBIANS, you can only have one account, so I suggest you pick an account to keep and don't join any more with your other accounts, just play out the games. That is, if you have more than one account... I won't check for now... but I will later. =)

Also, I'm with lesbians in that I've also got a fetish for women. Luckily it's one of the more socially acceptable ones.

Like Chrisp, I was very much addicted to this game when I first joined. I tried telling all my friends about it in hopes I could get a FtF game going, but I might have scared them with my zeal in describing it.

I'm on here everyday still. Even while at work. :)

"Obsession" described is just a hormonal state of mind (brain, to be more precise) of a person who fell in love. Yes, you can fall in love with a game, too. Also with a pair of lesbians, but, that's another story...
Luckily, being in love usually stops after 3-12 months, no matter what the object is. You'll fall in love with some other game and forget Diplomacy, in time... But you'll get back to visit, sure, just not that much ;)

Actually I've never had an obsession with any other board game. Risk just bores the hell out of me. It's definitely the social aspect.

How do you get addicted to RISK? Psh. I only learned the rules to that game after learning Dip and it never seemed appealing to me in the slightest.

I despise bsw, enjoy power grid, and haven't tried dominion. It doesn't really appeal to me so I don't think I'll try it unless someone else has it and teaches me. The chances of that occurring are basically zero.

I'm about to try Pandemic with my wife for the second time =)

gametableonline is much better for me than bsw. It doesn't have nearly the game selection, but it's english, and it doesn't have TOWNS for goodness sake...

I think I tried GTO once but was disappointed by the selection.

I've heard Pandemic is fun but I'm not a huge cooperative game fan.

Definitely addicted to Diplomacy for years now... but only able to arrange a small handful of FTF games in that span. I'm loving the online versions... (new to the online world in the last few weeks)

Grew up addicted to Risk... designed/drew my own boards - often of specific continents or alien worlds, made up new rules (terrain, special pieces) etc... I don't play it much anymore. Made one game that I called Starship Risk that used a 3-D map of stars within 25 lightyears of Sol (3D as in the Z-axis of your ships were recorded on paper - and the Z-axis of stars was noted on the board)... you could make build three kinds of ships, colonize, industrialize, build ships and do battle. Took scores of hours to get to the point where you could tell who was going to win. Never did finish a game to the bitter end. Loved it. Surprisingly, I have a life. (not so much back then)

Be thankful you don't play Slay by Sean O'Connor. It's more of a time suck than Bloon's Tower Defense.
