Looking for the opinion of my esteemed peers out there
Is there ever a time when intentionally bouncing yourself would be a good strategy to confuse people you are playing with? If so what sorts of situations would be appropriate for that?

An allowance for Preference
Kestas, you are doing an excellent job moderating this site, and currently, in my opinion, this is the premier online Diplomacy site. I do think, however, that giving the creator of a game the option to set country preferences would give the game a new dynamic. This change would of course mean first-come, first-serve. I find that often players constantly receive the same country/coutries and this can lead to monotony(me-The German powers). Please consider this change.

Country selection.
I would like to know if there any system that defines the country that each player plays in a game. I mean, I played many times Italy and I got a bit bored. Also, I have yet to play a game with Turkey which is my favourite.

Is it just luck? Or is it connected with you DP or any other factor?

CJ 92(Sioraf as Killeens) is the most frequent poster on PlayDiplomacy.com and Sicarius is the most frequent poster on PHPDiplomacy.com so I thought it would be interesting to see who people prefer. This is not a popularity contest, this is an opinion poll by the way. Please read posts from both users before deciding.

Helping the board
I posted in a thread a bit ago, but it was displaced, and has vanished into the wastelands. Not that I have time *now*, but if I did, how would I help the board?

what's code monkeying?

I personally think that I guide to the interface would be very useful. Things such as what the green ticks and red crosses mean and I'm still not sure of the difference between the online indicator and the last logged on time. Do these refer to the site as a whole or to the specific game? And I don't know what code monkeying is either.

How about:
1. putting retreats and builds into the written history of the games
2. keeping a list of the past players and the period that they played
3. highlighting in a player profile the games he dropped out which is more important than the number 'defeated'
4. Allow for messages to be sent to multiple players at the sametime
5. Allow for players to vote themselves out of a draw so that there is not a 'kill' system or a game profile at the start to allow it for that game.
6. Allow for different scoring systems other than the current mass point accumulation
7. Allow for a separate place on the site where End Of Game statements can be saved.
8. Expand the player profile to include real names so as to cut down on cheaters.
9. Allow for messages in the game to be saved for the length of the game rather than dropping off after a certain length.
10. Allow for data mining of game results so that we can see what are the common openings, etc
11. Add supply center charts to the game records with player details
12. Allow structure of new games with a collective theme independent of the scoring system for the site... sort of like allowing tournaments private or otherwise

That's just a few projects that you could look at.

In response to Edi's comments:
1. Good point
2. They're on, but games don't show when they last moved. I think all finished games should display their finished dates
3. You can find this if you read their statistics
4. This is not a bad point, although how would you modify the interface to allow for this?
5. Do you mean make it possible to have games that can't be drawn? If so I agree, and think other possibilities should be to flag a game as a variant, so people know why such strange things happen in it.
6.Fair point, although surely not high in priorities?
7.I think the forum should be split into several different categories: General,Game Invites, Private [personal messages] & Finished Games
8.Good point, although surely this wouldn't work on multi-accounters as they'd just use different names?
9.They are, but the interface needs updating to show them all. I think that when you scroll right to the top of the chat dialogue there should be a hyperlink to a page that contains the complete transcript for your conversation. Loading it all into the box would be awkward since you rarely want all the information, but it should be available.
10. That's a good idea, although to what extent that should be possible is another question, because otherwise just constantly demanding the data would be a good way to attack the server
11. What do you mean? A small version of the game map on statistics pages?
12.Oh, I mentioned this earlier. I think you should be able to 'tag' a game as a varient, in which case it would not be subjected to the standard finishing rules

A Supply center chart is a chart that shows the progression of owned centers as numbers Example
01 02 03 04 05 06
A 5 6 8 10 11 12
E 5 6 3 - - -
F 6 6 9 11 11 12
G 5 4 3 2 1 0
I 4 5 6 7 8 11
R 6 5 4 3 1 -
T 4 4 4 3 - -

It'll be a few weeks before I work on the next update but it should sort out many of the common gripes :-)

If you can't code you can help just by helping people out on the forum and being a good community guy. I'm also hoping to add an official wiki, I think lots of people are interested in contributing to a pool of knowledge on how to play better and answering common questions

I think ability to see EoG statements would be an excellent addition.... perhaps a link from the game to the forum thread id would work and prevent the thread dropping off the bottom?

How about some of the regular users being allowed to set up CD busting accounts for example I could set up CD buster (maniac). The job of these accounts would be to enter games as soon as players go CD and make defensive moves - no diplomacy entered into just make stock moves. I think this would add greatly to the site as so many games are decided on NMR or CDs

Spain question
If you have a unit on the south coast of spain, going to mid-atlantic, and an enemy unit is trying to go from mid-atlantic to north coast of spain, can they switch? If the south coast of spain unit is supported, and displaces the mid-atlantic unit, can it retreat to north coast of spain?

All possible diplmacy games.
Hi Guys,
Given the finite number of sc's and only 7 major powers, there has to be some sort of closure on all the possible games in diplomacy, i wonder what is the maximum possible number of practical diplomacy games. Practical considering that all 7 powers are played by 7 different reasonably logical people.

Come one, come all. Big money, winner takes all.
Very slow play so you don't have to check up on the game every day (and can skip weekends if you need to). Serious players wanted (none of those namby pamby players that drop out after 1902).
