It's just like pausing games used to be, a massive flood of players asking for games to be paused because it was something which frequently needed to be done which requires admin intervention. Now that it's automatic those have disappeared but we see all the multi-account accusations instead. But the ratio of multi-account accusations to games is pretty low, as Chrispminis' recent thread showed there are lots of people who haven't even encountered a multi-accounter. Multi-accounters in high points games are very rare, and because it's now relatively easy to spot and remove them they're rarer than ever
It's also a self-fulfilling prophesy, because people see lots of threads on it they look for similar things in their games. The majority of times I've looked at a reported multi-accounter there turned out to be no link at all, the majority of the rest are cases which can reasonably be believed to be friends etc (i.e. a link, but not a very strong link). It appears to be a bigger problem than it is
e.g. One time I manually paused a game in Facebook Diplomacy, since then there were constant pause requests there right up until /pause was implemented, some even appeared over here. I didn't pause any game after the first, but because people saw a post on it other people started doing it, and since there was so many presumably that made people more comfortable posting these requests even though no-one was actually getting a pause
I think to sum it all up there are 20 banned users on the site. Which means for all the different multi-accounters with multiple accounts, including people who were banned for forum stuff like spamming and "inciting hatred", the total comes to only 20. The number of individuals who are multi-accounters behind those 20 banned accounts would be an even smaller figure
This is despite lots of dedicated effort by the moderator team to look into each case posted, and software which automates multi-accounter detection.
