I just ran into the worse multi-accounter ever
In the game Edinbough Festival http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=5843. I encountered a supposed multi accounter who ganged up on me as Italy and England but not only failed to kill me, I crippled both of them.

PPSC vs WTA
In this thread: http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=5803, a couple of players have pointed out how the PPSC mentality strongly influence the last phases of the game. Eventually I agree.

I would like to hear more from experienced players and newcomers alike which one of the two you prefer to play and why, but also what do you think the main differences in terms of general strategy and typical evolution of the game along the years are.

I don't think so, Apollo464 followed the same (unorthodox) strategy as Italy in:

http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=5866

A hard north drive to Germany. You can see Apollo464 and EmperorTapia fighting it out starting in Spring 1909. I will admit, it is VERY highly co-ordinated, particularly Italy's fleet drive to St. P to support Turkey in
figlesquidge (2131 D)

That does actually look legit to me. That is a strong but viable alliance. Still, fair enough to bring it up.
Perhaps we should get a single thread in which you can *only* post names & a game link you wish to have investigated, then people like you and I can leave it alone for those in power to investigate. After all, neither of us can see the data held!

Fuehr (0 DX)

Perfect team alliance. I love it!!!! Sundwn is just afraid of loosing! Sore loosers like Sundwn deserve to be banned. its people like him that take away the legitimacy of calling out true multi accounters. Is there any way we can ban sundwn! It doesn't take an expert to know that an alliance is simply an alliance. These two players are smart and I admire them for that.
Fuehr (0 DX)
16 Oct 08 UTC
I would like to play a game with this guys. This game cool!
figlesquidge (2131 D)
16 Oct 08 UTC
Centurian - we don't know if that was arranged or not. There are many reasons he might give them away. Without looking at the map, if he's supporting him in I guess someone else is in there, and so maybe Italy refused to give support but would move if Austria supported? Maybe it was a swap to keep numbers balanced when compared with actions somewhere else on the board. There are more reasons, but those are more tactical and i don't want to suggest other strategies at play
Centurian (3257 D)
16 Oct 08 UTC
Well I should point out that Fuehr hear has just joined php and has now entered a single 100 point game with emperortabia (italy in said game) this isn't the first multiaccounting accusation I've heard about him as well.

If it is a legit move then thats fine, but the mods should look into it.
Centurian (3257 D)
16 Oct 08 UTC
BTW figlesquide, if you did look at the map you would see that Austria gives up trieste, serbia and moscow in exchange for nothing and noone contests said territories.
Stevelers (3084 D(G))
16 Oct 08 UTC
Fuehr was just created, and is playing in one 100 point, password protected game with "emporer Tapai", the same player who is controlling Italy in sundwn's game.

This might need to be checked more thouroughly.
Stevelers (3084 D(G))

The new 100 point passworded game has a new player. A new account with no other games.
Centurian (3257 D)
16 Oct 08 UTC
Doesn't sound suspicious at all guys. What unorthodox alliance will Tabia use to win that one?
figlesquidge (2131 D)
16 Oct 08 UTC
Shouldn't need an alliance. All he needs to do is trick himself into giving him all his territories
DeliciousWolf (112 D)
16 Oct 08 UTC
Sundwn, in all fairness I do think the Mods should look into your accusation. The Fuehr thing is ridiculous.
destp (2774 D)
17 Oct 08 UTC
Looked like a legit, well pulled off alliance to me too, until the last turn or too when either Italy pulled of a great stab or something questionable is going on. The next turn should make it clearer which is the case, though with the coincidences around the Fuehr account seem to support the accusation.
Churchill (2280 D)
17 Oct 08 UTC
It could be looked at, but Italy and Austria working together is rather unusual- although not cause for alarm.
Ursa (1617 D)
17 Oct 08 UTC
Sundwn has complained before about this game but the stragety is still valid. It seems now the alliance is not very long lasting, with Italy taking Trieste. It's clear Italy is profiting the most from the game situation.

I find alliances between Italy and Austria not very odd. As Italy you have two options: invade Austria or forge an alliance. If you keep a NAP Austria will surely invade you. If you have an alliance you could win centers thereby (see for instance my rather succesful alliance with Austria in the game Wilson-3). However, this sort of cooperation is rather unusual. I find the other game rather suspicious, so is also the reaction of Fuehr in this thread: 'sundwn must be banned'. It sounds more like something Emperor Tapia might say.
Ursa (1617 D)
17 Oct 08 UTC
BTW, Apollo464 has only played games with Emp Tapia.

EmperorTapia (0 DX)

Wow!!! its so hard to play strategy without being called a witch! How many times do I have to explain myself and my strategies before I stop getting purged. I am clearly working a deal with Austria that still has not developed completely. I am pretty sure Turkey figured this out which is why I am saying this. While this turn appears to be completely in my favor, it will be obvious that it was for a reason. Austria felt Russia was a threat. Therefore, we worked together to efficiently take advantage of their exposure and the quickest way to do that was to exchange supply centers. At the same time Austria feels Turkey is a threat so since they cant fight a two front war, they asked us their ally to join. However, Italy cant attack from behind Austria. Drr..... So they let us in. Of course at first it might hurt them, but in the long run it will benefit them.

As Ursa and others may recall, the last time I tried playing with friends everyone freaked out! So this time I started a private game with friends who have joined the game; ensuring that no other player feels at a disadvantage.

Ursa, I do not wish Sundwn to be banned. All I wish is that he stopped screaming wolf! If he is loosing, he has my condolences but just because I declared war on his royal butt does not mean that I am collaborating with the whole world to take his jewels. (the one's on his crown of course) lol.

So I hope this calms the waters and explains everything.

Not quite "Emperor". You are almost certainly a multi-accounter, and a massive one at that. As soon as I get the time, or another moderator looks into this, I'm going to destroy your entire network. In the very game in question, try to tell me that you're not also France.
Chrispminis (916 D)
17 Oct 08 UTC
As a formal warning to the players of BloodBounty, Game ID: 6215,
Russia, England, and France are almost certainly the same person.

Act accordingly, and expect them to be banned and CD'ed. It's a fairly new game, so I hope players who read this notice will go forth and take over the CD positions when they become available.
EmperorTapia (0 DX)
17 Oct 08 UTC
you must obviously not be a moderator! If you were, then you would converse with before making such blunt assumptions. Also, this issue has already been discussed with another moderator and he already decided on my legitimacy. I refuse to go on with this silly accusations.
Chrispminis (916 D)
17 Oct 08 UTC
If you convinced him, then you can convince me. I will fully apologize if I'm wrong, but I'm 99% sure that I'm not, so you'll excuse me if I might offend you and your many accounts in the process.
dangermouse (5551 D)

Tapia - If you are not a multi-accounter, then you must have 4 or 5 siblings/close friends/etc who are logging in to phpDip from the same computer.

I would be willing to cut some of these "other" players some slack as they aren't actually in any games with the other accounts but we most definitely need some further explanation from you if you want to defend your innocence.
Chrispminis (916 D)

They were all the same person. The culprit had numerous accounts, many not even used... yet. The multi account detection system was furiously waving it's red flags.

They were all using the same computer, the usernames were unimaginative as were their dummy e-mail addresses.

The back story that they were a poli sci class at Berkeley didn't hold up when I did a simple directory search at the UC Berkeley website.

There was much more evidence I used to corroborate their culpability, but I feel I shouldn't divulge all my methods lest we get a dedicated multi accounter.

The real kicker was that he actually contacted me with the e-mails listed for one of the doppelganger accounts, marketing467.

Rest easy.

So, I ended up picking up Italy's CD in the game that started this all, and was interested to see that there actually was in game communication between the three kicked players. However, that communication only seemed to start after sundwn started this thread and dealt almost exclusively with that topic. There was certainly no discussion of the intricate moves Italy and Austria were pulling off.
Chrispminis (916 D)
18 Oct 08 UTC
I love it. As soon as multi accounters start trying really hard to seem legitimate, they might as well play fairly. Otherwise, they leave a million clues that they are not legitimate players.

Thanks for grabbing the CD as well. I'm sure it's much appreciated.
Ursa (1617 D)
18 Oct 08 UTC
Pity he had to lower himself to this kind of cheating. I played one game with Emperor Tapia, in which no other of his alter ego's were present. Athough I was Turkey and he was England, we had good contact which I enjoyed. I hope he will come back somehow, with one account, if the moderators allow it. He could be a really good player - in time. At least, he has the diplomatic skills.
Chrispminis (916 D)
19 Oct 08 UTC
Yeah, I offered to let him keep an account, but he continued to pretend that he was not a multi accounter. A thread that he posted earlier and the fact that he did play a game where he didn't multi account made me think he could go legitimate.

Although, perhaps it's better now. He can start fresh without having any of the bad press associated with his previous aliases.

Deadliest ally-combination?
Over the course of many games, the winner is only decided after two countries work together to eliminate everyone else. This is especially the case in Points-per-SupplyCentre games, where a good chunk of players are OK with second place.

My question is, what pairs of countries make the most effective and successfully duo in your experience? France-England, Italy-Austria, Germany-Asutria, etc. etc.
