SANDCASTLE to kick down - multi-accounter
I wonder how many accounts THIS time?
ProsperityY!PP and Exponentialdecay are clearly the same person:

1. The Same log-on times
2. exponentialdecay joined the very day after ProsperityY!PP
3. ProsperityY!PP is playing in four out of five of Exponentialdecay's games
4. Very suspicious press indicating same player in M Kahunas 2 game- When I as Russia attacked Turkey, France of all people started threatening me.

It must be said, he is a very skilled tactician, its a shame that he has turned to dishonorable means to win his games.

Kestas, PLEASE KICK DOWN HIS SANDCASTLE !! :)

Retreats before a country is eliminated
Say a player has one unit left. In an autumn turn, the player's last SC is taken and his unit is dislodged. Shouldn't that player have the opportunity to retreat into another SC?

For instance, see this game:
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=5217
Italy was dislodged from Tyrrhenian in Autumn 1904 and could have retreated into Rome but was not given an opportunity to.

Multis
Too bad people feel they have to do this. I wonder how many games are won because of this practice. I just want to enjoy a good game, and it kind of riuns it if you are playing against 2 or 3 opponents that are the same person :(

Two quick questions
1) If all players have finalized their orders except for one who is in CD, does that hold up the completion of the turn until the timer runs out?

2) Has any seen Kestas lately? (heard from, read a post, etc)

Supporting the support?
Hello everybody

on the actual board game instruction manual (50th anniversary edition, p.9) it says: "Support can be offensive (...) or defensive (supporting a hold, support or convoy order)".

However, I could not find any reference on how a "support to support" is done, and what is the mechanism behind it...

Anybody available to help or point me to the right online page/article?

Rules Question
If there is a fleet on the South Coast of Spain and a fleet in Portugal, can the fleet in Portugal move to the North Coast of Spain and the Fleet in Spain move to Portugal without causing a bounce? Thanks for any info you can give on this dilemma.

EOG "Thank God I'm a Straight Man" - Making the Key work
A month or so ago, there was a thread in this forum called "Making the Key work", wich was basically about the Key Lepanto, and asking why, according to the poster, the Key was rarely used, and even rarelier did it actually work.

I was just getting started in the game, but it got me reading on some opening theory, and I have to say I fell in love with the Key almost instantly.

I got Italy in my next game, so I just had to try it. This game came to an end yesterday, and in the next post is my EOG statement.

This is the game:
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=4771

As I said, I was Italy, and I was determined to make the Key work. I talked to Austria (Insert Witticism Here) about it, who didn't know what the Key Lepanto was, so I explained it to him, and, incredibly, he agreed.

I secured a NAP with France (garistarch) and we got on to it. I lied a little to Turkey (Henry Kissinger) and he was in a horrible position in a few years. He held on with nails and teeth to his position, played some formidable defense, but in the long run, the fight was decided and Austria and I took him out.

While still fighting Turkey, I was running out of enemy's (I've come to see it as almost as bad as running out of friends) so I attacked France. With me coming at him from the south and Austria from the north, he took quite a beating, and England (TheMasterGamer, The second biggest power in the board after me at that time) helped him a bit, but you could see he was not really determined.

England was making way into Russia (Carlosmartin1974), and he was going to eliminate him rather quickly, so Austria and I took his last SC to gain a better position against England.

From then, it was practically a showdown between two superpowers (AI-EF), because we all knew that betraying your ally would mean certain death. Austria and I made the best tactic choices and coordinated our moves better, and we were able to secure a difference (I:12+A:8).

From that moment on, we kept pushing forward. Sadly, France went CD, wich made my advance much easier, and later Austria went CD too for some reason. After that, with 15 SC's, I took advantage on my position related to Austria and took the las 3 SC's from him for the win.

It was a very god game, with very good tactic moves and great strong alliances. I particularily enjoyed talking to garistarch (France) who was a someone I'd like to have as an ally in some other game. It seems a little stained in a way, because of the CD's at the end, and the stab on my long time ally (wich was based on him going CD), but I got what I wanted, I won a game with Italy, using the Key Lepanto.

PS: If you've read this far, you may have emotional problems...

And you may have a god complex...

"It was a very god game"

Nice end of game statement though. Would be interested to hear from some of the other players.

Jejeje.

The "you may have problems" was actually a pun at myself for writing such a long statement. It would be nice to hear from the other players too, especially England and the original Austria and France.

Oh, a correction. TheMasterGamer was not the original England, he picked it up in 1916 (the game ended in 1917) and Henry Kissinger was not the original Turkey, he picked it up in 1903 and was eliminated in 1906.

I don't recall who the original players were.

I am not convinced of the Key in it's purest form myself.... you end stringing your units out a long way from home and end up with a guessing game to get the fleet into East Med/Aegan and then to land the convoy into Syria/Smyrna. If you don't guess right both times then you are vulnerable to French fleets or Austria stabs.

The Blue Water Lepanto is something I'd like to try though - as it highly cunningly removes the guess work from getting the fleet from Ionian to Turkish waters. It also leaves Austria/Italy somewhat reliant on one another and therefore less likely to stab.

if turkey opens with Fleet ankara to con, then key is in lots of trouble.
on the otherhand a successful convoy to syria should determine turkeys fate. italy plus austria in the balkans should be able to secure three if not four supply.

Very strong, I like Key, (not as much as Hey Bresto!) obviously the risks of france threatening italy need to be dealt with using some diplomatic skill.

More than 72 hours per phase?
Could it be possible to have more than 72 hours per phase? Especially for private, i.e. password-protected games, this could be an option. Or what's the reason for this maximum?

Riddle me this?
Ok, if a game cost 101 points to join (presumably to stop total beginners that haven't won a game from joining), then 5 people join and the pre-game starts, how much does it cost to take over a CD Italy or Germany?

According to my calculations, 96 points.

Not sure how or why...

Not being all sooky-gripey-blah-blah. I'm happy to have players join to make up the numbers and not have CD countries. Just curious as to the calculations...

Discussion anyone?
