Good CD Turkey to take over

It's Winter 1901, and Turkey still owns all its home centers.

SANDCASTLE to kick down - multi-accounter
I wonder how many accounts THIS time?
ProsperityY!PP and Exponentialdecay are clearly the same person:

1. The Same log-on times
2. exponentialdecay joined the very day after ProsperityY!PP
3. ProsperityY!PP is playing in four out of five of Exponentialdecay's games
4. Very suspicious press indicating same player in M Kahunas 2 game- When I as Russia attacked Turkey, France of all people started threatening me.

It must be said, he is a very skilled tactician, its a shame that he has turned to dishonorable means to win his games.

Kestas, PLEASE KICK DOWN HIS SANDCASTLE !! :)

I am here to concur. This was also brought up previously on two different occasions on the forum.

I was looking into this just to see if I could tell anything obvious - practicing detective work - I was immediately suspicious of Handsomeman just because the commonality of the games.

Then in game
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=5341

I was watching how Prosp and Exponent interacted, and I thought - yep - looks consistent with Multi-Acct to me, but the guy did at least have a legitimate alliance with Germany, apparently by the moves. Then I decided to check who Germany was and sure enough it was Handsomeman, who joined on the same day as one of the other two.

I wouldn't call him a skilled tacticion - I bet it's REALLY easy to win this game when you are 3 of the players!

I would like to know what someone gain with creatting multi-accounter... There is no money on these games, and the best part of the game is the strategy, analysis, and traiton!!! If someone don´t feel happy to loose OK: just don´t play more!!! I still haven´t win any game but I insist in playing with my account without creating a "ghost"...

How is this fool still playing on here??? Gahhh, it's frustrating !! Kestas, have you looked into this? In M Kahunas 2, he is claiming it's his "roommate" and that they have different ISPs from different computers. Is this true ?? Can we confirm or deny that this is one player?
alamothe (3367 D(B))

it is one person but kestas is busy :-(
DeliciousWolf (112 D)

Can we maybe appoint a vice-moderator to pick up when Kestas gets busy? Maybe some sort of rotating position or other scheme? This would ease the burden on him and ensure draws, multi-accounters etc are handled promptly. Win-win for everyone.

Yeah, I checked out that Pirates! game mentioned by Philcore above. At the beginning, Italy does nothing to advance itself, even by taking Tunis which he could so easily without fear of giving up position. Instead he hovers around the Ionian to support Austria. Just too suspicious.

In one of my games ProsperityYPP! (or something like that) will shortly be going into CD. If you takeover, be a little friendly to Russia (and Austria, he's new). :)

I was tempted to take it over just to see his press, but then I saw he was basically the board leader, so I couldn't pass it up. In that particular game I didn't see anything blatant - like supported moves without be requested or anything. But it looks like they've gone through 4 Austrias, 2 russias, 2 Germany's and 2 France's. Not a lot to go on with all of those CDs and no history of who originally started the positions. He had communication with everyone but one player and it all seemed normal enough to me. The one he didn't talk to has been around much longer and has no other games, so I think that was just a proximity thing. There wasn't any need to talk.

Anyway, thought some might be curious.
philcore (317 D(S))

I meant to say the one he didn't talk to has been around on the site much longer and has no other games in common with either him or his 2 suspected aliases.

Well he went into cd in our game. Not before claiming that theywere just living with eachother and therefore had a stronger bond. That is of course almost as bad in my opinion even if its true. Regardless, I think we've seen the last of him.
DeliciousWolf (112 D)
25 Sep 08 UTC
Yes, he went CD in M Kahunas 2 as well. Got caught red-handed and went off to sulk elsewhere I guess. Good riddance. I'd still like to see his accounts eliminated, regardless, and his IP banned so he doesn't just pop up again and hide it better.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was software that looked for games in common between players, looked at the results, flagged suspicious player accounts so... when joining a game, that info would be visible, so no one would join their games?
Carpysmind (1423 D)
26 Sep 08 UTC
How about a “Monitoring Counsel”? “Counsel” being the operative word. In addition, how about deleting accounts that have multiple “civil disorder” infractions? ‘Sore losers’ who disrupt the natural flow of the game should be eliminated.
DeliciousWolf (112 D)
26 Sep 08 UTC
You're never going to be able to write software with better AI that'll find multi-accounters than the hyper-suspicious Dip players :0 As a rule, I always check out the players at the start of the game, see how many games are shared, join dates, login times, etc. I think the current system is good, but I would be in favour of more vice-moderators to help in checking out (and confirming/denying) multi-accounter accusations.

Retreats before a country is eliminated
Say a player has one unit left. In an autumn turn, the player's last SC is taken and his unit is dislodged. Shouldn't that player have the opportunity to retreat into another SC?

For instance, see this game:
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=5217
Italy was dislodged from Tyrrhenian in Autumn 1904 and could have retreated into Rome but was not given an opportunity to.

Multis
Too bad people feel they have to do this. I wonder how many games are won because of this practice. I just want to enjoy a good game, and it kind of riuns it if you are playing against 2 or 3 opponents that are the same person :(

Two quick questions
1) If all players have finalized their orders except for one who is in CD, does that hold up the completion of the turn until the timer runs out?

2) Has any seen Kestas lately? (heard from, read a post, etc)

Supporting the support?
Hello everybody

on the actual board game instruction manual (50th anniversary edition, p.9) it says: "Support can be offensive (...) or defensive (supporting a hold, support or convoy order)".

However, I could not find any reference on how a "support to support" is done, and what is the mechanism behind it...

Anybody available to help or point me to the right online page/article?

Rules Question
If there is a fleet on the South Coast of Spain and a fleet in Portugal, can the fleet in Portugal move to the North Coast of Spain and the Fleet in Spain move to Portugal without causing a bounce? Thanks for any info you can give on this dilemma.

EOG "Thank God I'm a Straight Man" - Making the Key work
A month or so ago, there was a thread in this forum called "Making the Key work", wich was basically about the Key Lepanto, and asking why, according to the poster, the Key was rarely used, and even rarelier did it actually work.

I was just getting started in the game, but it got me reading on some opening theory, and I have to say I fell in love with the Key almost instantly.

I got Italy in my next game, so I just had to try it. This game came to an end yesterday, and in the next post is my EOG statement.

Could it be possible to have more than 72 hours per phase? Especially for private, i.e. password-protected games, this could be an option. Or what's the reason for this maximum?

Riddle me this?
Ok, if a game cost 101 points to join (presumably to stop total beginners that haven't won a game from joining), then 5 people join and the pre-game starts, how much does it cost to take over a CD Italy or Germany?

According to my calculations, 96 points.

Not sure how or why...

Not being all sooky-gripey-blah-blah. I'm happy to have players join to make up the numbers and not have CD countries. Just curious as to the calculations...

Discussion anyone?
