Perhaps the single angriest argument I could think of starting,
Best way to brew coffee.

I think a stovetop percolator is the best and anyone who disagrees should be doomed to playing as Austria for the next 1000 games.

Breaking news: the rest of ASOIAF will be handed over to Patrick Rothfuss, who commented that procrastinating on completing Martin's epic saga posthumously will really help him take his mind off procrastinating on completing the Kingkiller Chronicles.

I know this was supposed to be a joke, but Harper Lee died today and I'm a little confused as to why this has people's attention instead of an actual literary legend actually passing.

And Umberto Eco :(

depends on what forum you're talking about. It double-#1'd on reddit. And webDip talks about books way less than you'd expect. Maybe once every 4 months at best someone brings them up.

That's not strictly true, Valis -- I see implicit references to the themes of Nabokov every time people refer to the characters of "the old forum".

I collect certain books, so I guess it's just a natural tendency for me to be more concerned about them than other people might be. I'm torn up today.

I didn't know about Eco. He was a genius.

Even sadder that I just looked up "To Kill a Mockingbird" first editions on Ebay and found quite a few listed in the last few hours because they think they can profit off of her death, and they're probably right.

It's a sad day for literature and philosophy, yes.

Do you read the books you collect? Or do you have a tsundoku problem?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

The majority of my shelves are pre-war, I don't think I have anything post-1970 other than the Harry Potter series. Some of the old ones are in better condition than others. Those that I can read without tearing them up I absolutely have and will. I'm in the middle of a first printing of "Travels in Alaska" by John Muir, probably one of my favorite people in general (and doesn't hurt that I picked it up in immaculate condition for $1).

Unfortunately, most of my books are at home in Indy. I don't have room for much here.

Australian Politics, please explain
What is with the rivalry between Abbott and Turnbull? Is it really a geographical split within the Liberal Party between the influence of Sydney and Victoria? Or is it something ideological that I cannot discern? They both seem plenty rightwing to me.
