Games over!

England 9
Germany 11
Turkey 8
Italy 6

I started off the game conservatively with a bounce in BS. In Fall i went to BS, knowing Geemany was denying Russia Swe. I wanted to work with Austria but when I asked for support to Rum, we had a misunderstanding and things went south. I decided to fall back and rearrange to move against Austria. Good thing because Austria took Bul with Russian support, Italy moved to Emed and Russia entered Arm. Luxkily

Game 3 ended with a 7 way draw! I survived with only one center as Germany....in STP. Russia survived with one center...in Budapest(IIRC)! It was an odd game.

Just got back from my day at Temple. The event was amazing. There was so much to do besides Diplomacy, not that you'd want to, though, as Jim put on an excellent tournament! Updates to follow.

Luckily, England took STP and I had moved to go against Austria, which also served as a defensive position against Italy. I was able to convince both Russia and Italy that they weren't going to get any centers from me and they backed off, allowing me to move against Austria. Russia didn't take the English threat too serious and England ended up getting an army down to Mos (maybe Sev?) which was pretty awesome.

Some other stuff happened and Austria and Russia ended up getting eliminated. I made a pretty good comeback and was trying to take out Italy. He eventually made the very good play of supporting Germany (who was becoming a bit of a solo threat) into some centers. At that point, I decided even if we could eliminate Italy, I wouldn't get any of him, so I agreed to the draw the next time it came around.

Overall a very fun game. Wish I was just a bit quicker to go for Italy and I may have been able to break out.

Game two was very interesting.

I was Austria and Valis was Germany.

I wanted to work with Turkey to take out Russia quickly, because he was a very strong player and I thought I could get along well with Turkey. Italy wanted to do a Key Lepanto. I said no because I thought it was too likely he'd screw me over so I was going to play conservatively. He attacks me anyway in the Fall but fails to take any centers while I got SER and GRE. Turkey meanwhile had moved to BS and ARM and took RUM with my support. Things are looking good.

I decided to attack Italy while helping Turkey against Russia. For a while it was going OK, but I was not making good progress against Italy, which was largely my fault for trying to be too clever and misguessing. Turkey ont the other hand, started growing out of control and Russia was unable to defend against me and Turkey in the South and Germany or someone in the North. Turkey had made it to MOS and I was still trying to take VEN when I decided I had to attack Turkey, as much as I didn't want to. I have a fairly successful stab, but Italy came right after me, instead of moving West as he said he would.

I offered Italy a center if he didn't attack me. He agreed and then attacked me. I offered him two centers and told him if he attacked me again I was just going to help Turkey win. He agreed and attacked me again. I went back to Turkey with my tail between my legs and told her I would through everything I had at Italy if she let me live. I then spent several years helping her take centers at my own expense. She briefly got an army to NWY with Germany's help, which was pretty amazing.

At this point, I was becoming concerned, though, because again Turkey was growing very large and no one seemed to believe I would actually through the game. I actually had to support her into MUN and she had to take TUN before anyone was willing to draw. Now, at that point, *she* should have declined the draw, as I don't know if I could have stopped her even if I wanted to. But we did finally draw. With all 7 players on the board and a score that was roughly:

Turkey 11
France 6
England 7
Italy 4
Austria 4
Russia 1
Germany 1

Again, a very fun game, but very odd. Italy and I did not work together once and yet we talked every phase and had a very good relationship.

I was introduced to Dip with live games, and they were the most fun I've ever had with the game. Less time to parse out every possible move, so more tactical mishaps, which I think make the game move a bit faster. You also of course have a better idea of who's talking to whom. And no NMRs. Just some occasional hurt feelings :\

Seeking advice from people that have taken a cruise. My last one was 20 years ago, and I am picking between Norwegian, Royal Caribbean and Carnival. Carnival seems cheapest....but...is there a reason? Is it volume discount, or am I going to be eating greasy burgers and slop instead of the fine cuisine I might get elsewhere?

So another plane crashed in Taiwan. At least they know what happened with this one. Is it pilot error? Poor upkeep? Illuminati? Something must be responsible for the comparatively high number of plane crashes in Asia.
