I love OOTS, just got the most recent bound volume last month hot off the presses.

I like oops and have been reading for about as long as I've been here, give or take.

They were at Gen Con selling their board game when it first came out.

It just takes Berlew a long time to put new comics online, and he's been dragging the gates adventures on slower and slower with gobs of story arcs on th side.

It's also gotten less funny as the years go by and more of a pseudo - funny drama.

The early web comics were the best. Still worth the read, tho.

I did a massive binge pre-Xmas, reading from Issue 1 to Issue 972 (I think) in about 3 weeks. Takes me back to playing D&D all those many years ago ... <goes misty eyed at the thought of rolling dice and telling tales>

I'm fond of oots, haven't read in in ages though.

Avoiding spoilers for those who aren't there yet, I'll say at the point I was they had been in a city where Tarquin was a prominent government figure when I stopped.

Still remember (s)wordplay as a great later strip.

If you like oots I highly recommend DM of the Rings, where a gruop plays the main characters from Lord of the Rings on a very- rail-roaded quest to destroy the One Ring.

The basic premise is the dm is trying to follow the plot of the books, and none of the players are familar with the story. If you can get over the slightly unlikely proposition of a group of gamers of whom none saw lotr, its hilarious. Done entirely with screen-captures from the movie, and the screen-captures are very meticulously selected. For example, Aragorn is always portrayed with a stoned expression.

As an addendum, the story really picks up in Rivendell. Early on its Aragorn and the 4 hobbits, none of whom are particularly compelling characters. After that its Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, who are all very distinct and hilarious.

I remember my D&D days, too, Pete U. Fortunately, I still roll dice in fantasy gaming, just not D&D anymore. I went to a less "pagan" front. I also got into warhammer. Very satisfying.

I started playing D&D back when AD&D was coming to a close and AD&D 2e was coming out. I played a few times under original D&D rules and even went to Gen Con when Gygax was there. He ran a few D&D original games and sat a table away from me. Too bad I didn't have any of my D&D sourcebooks to have autographed.

Tru - life got in the way. I was a red box D&D player, and ended up with the Basic/Expert/Challenger/Masters/Immortals rules, plus all the GAZ series.

But then I also played CoC, Shadowrun, Star Wars RPG, Paranoia, Judge Dredd, Traveller, Twilight 2000, MERP, Runequest, Judge Dredd RPG and Ghostbusters RPG campaigns, as well as wargaming and board gaming. I miss those days...
