Good luck and have fun everyone!

I'll be live-blogging all the games for my personal amusement and will upload/release them at the conclusion for EOG analysis.
I love reading EOGs, but I have found that I'm horrible at producing them. Will try to keep a running tab of games, should be fun.

Pretty sure you mean 12/n for the draw ... or at least (1/n) * 12.

that would be "throw" ... (just to beat everyone to it)
Good point about the scoring! Nice to have a parallel game to watch :-)

We still need two players to pause the games.

If everyone had to pony up the points anyway so we can do the switching is there a point to staggering?
mendax (321 D)
06 Dec 14 UTC
Yes - it makes NMRs much less likely.
I'll happily join the unseries if somebody falls away.

Seventh game now underway, still needs a pause.
After this, a brief wait until mods reshuffle.

Can we ready paused games so they don't sit at the top of my page or will they still do that even when paused?
No, dont ready. We're not shuffled yet. I'm sorry, but it will have to clutter the page until mods have time to shuffle.

1) Shall we manually pause games 4-7?
2) When will they be changed to 36 H phases?
And we're off!

I have paused games 4 through 7, and changed all phase lengths to 36h.

- Readying up, as always, is encouraged but not mandatory. If you need 36h to make your move, then feel free to use all 36h (but not more!). This goes equally for builds and retreats, take all the time you need, although rest assured people _will_ complain to you about it afterwards ;-)

- Every time a game closes, a new one opens up, and the leaderboard will be updated.

- If non-playing observers would be willing to give their analysis, this helps to bump the thread too!

Good games all!

Game 1: Fairly standard 01 moves. Best position is France, with 3 builds and a passive England. Seems like a clear AI v RT, Russia is in big trouble if England moves too fast. A lot will be affected by where France will go.

Game 2: I really question France here. I hope those were just misorders. Either way, 01 may prove to be fatal here with an aggressive England and Germany. Army build rather than fleet in StP is interesting and important to note... Turkish builds are questionable, as there isn't a clear direction of what he/she will do next.

Game 3: Interesting Austrian attack on Italy. That gamble paid off well. Instead of AI vs RT, it seems like A vs I and R vs T. France is in a great position, as is Germany. Russia and Italy will be sore over having no builds. Turkey has several options here and it will be interesting to see where he goes.
Bump.

The amount of ready-ups is quite pleasant. I think this is the first series where there was one time where I was the rate-limiting step!
I agree. But please refrain from making any comments that may - even remotely - make a link with your in-game identity. The previous GB Tourney showed it's often too tempting for others to add their 2c as well.

Who would play a live game tonight?
I've come to realize that I don't have the patience for non-live games much. I need a minimum of 2 days/phase to have the free time to conduct diplomacy appropriately well, and that ends up being too long a game for me to maintain interest. However a live game (being no more than a 3-4 hr chunk of time) is pretty manageable. So I wanna play one.

Who's in?

I'm a Godfather!
I just became a Godfather and I'm wicked excited! With Christmas and his baptism coming up, I want to start thinking about things to do now and in the future. Obviously, it will largely depend on what the parents want, but I was hoping some people could share their thoughts on being a Godparent.
Thanks!

The Greatest People in History Tournament--Nominations
We've done Literature, we've done Music...so, since we're a history-happy lot, why not tackle the (impossible but fun) task of asking "Who was the better general, Alexander or Genghis Khan?" (Though bobgenghiskhan is clearly the answer.) 4 categories: Military/Political Leaders, Artists, Inventors/Scientists, and a "Grab-Bag" category, for all the folks who don't fit in elsewhere. Nominate 1 for each category, and we'll start when we have 64 (or 128, either way.)

Good win percentage
Hey,

So I'm relatively new to this game (played 5 and won 1 of them). What's a good win percentage as a rookie player? Trying to figure out if I suck or if I'm any good.

Not classic Diplomacy
So I'm new, and just finding my way here. But I've been playing Diplomacy for almost 40 years (anyone else here?)! the interesting thing about the greatest game ever invented by a mailman, is that the main object isn't really stabbing someone, but learning to work together. and being trustworthy. Unfortunately, that's not a version this site espouses! Too bad, but i find the site enjoyable anyway.

Game stuck in PAUSE?
A game that involves me ("The classic Is the best") paused over the holiday and all players except one, who was last seen nearly two weeks ago, have long since voted un-pause. The remaining players would like to finish or draw the game.

Are we remaining 6 doomed to look at an unfinished game for eternity, should vanished player never return?
