Why so much politics?
One thing I've noticed here is that there are so many threads based on politics, and I've been wondering what gets everybody so worked up about politics? I personally have very strong views that I would like to voice, but I don't know exactly how to jump in and how it will effect the way people view me on the site. I love a good debate, so I'd love to jump in. Any suggestions?

International Actors
At least in the major film industries, you rarely see an actor in America who hails from a different country. Sure, there's the occasional British or Australian who comes along, and I'm sure we visit them from time to time, but in a 'Globalizing World,' are cultural boundaries still too powerful to withhold a type of entertainment that is enjoyed so universally? Any thoughts?

World Map - Moving from Armenia to Moscow not possible
Has anyone encountered the issue of moving a fleet from Armenia to Moscow on the large world map? The map shows it should be possible, but no option to do it comes up in a drop down list.

What website do you use to make your life cheaper and easier?
So, I've discovered airbnb.com when I want sleep somewhere for a very modest prize, I've discovered blablacar.nl when I want to travel there (hitchhiker's site), marktplaats.nl for second hand items and so on and so on. What website do you use to make your life cheaper and easier?

How does the ranking system work?
When new members join Web Dip they are ranked as "Political Puppets". Then as more points are gained the rank changes. I'm wondering what the different ranks are and how the system works.

no, bo-sox. It looks like this cop was off duty and drunk. If a cop in america does that to a pregnant woman and unborn child, I think the result would be the same.

Well, bo_sox raises a good point. We're increasingly becoming a society in which an on-duty police officer can shoot unarmed civilians without consequences.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

COTW, can you provide some evidence to that? Is there a case you can point to, and then can you suggest why cops seem to get away with EVERYTHING here?

Oh good lord....another bo-sucks "Cops get away with everything!! Cops are evil!!!" thread... <yawn>

I'll be the first to say cops will probably get away with more than you or I. I will also be the first to say the constant mantra of ill-informed people like you that cops get away with everything all the time is part of the problem, not a part of the solution.

You're boring and trite.

Your perception of reality, as always, is wrong.
COTW (836 D)
18 Feb 14 UTC
I don't know what you mean by EVERYTHING. But I damn well guarantee you that a cop couldn't get away with being drunk and killing a pregnant woman.
Take a look at that case about the retired police chief who shot someone in the movie theatre... bet he gets life/death.
And I'm not saying that cops aren't held to the same laws, but seriously, they get shot at and die more often that economists and computer programmers, so I'm sure there is slightly more understanding in their cases. After all, they are trained to protect themselves first and foremost, and when they do such a dangerous job, they understandably react. Not saying that many times they go over the edge and get off easy, but most cases are properly investigated.

"they get shot at and die more often that economists and computer programmers... they do such a dangerous job"

Oh, spare me. 7-11 clerks and taxi drivers face far greater risks than cops, but no one ever suggests they ought to be able to get away with killing customers because "they reached for their wastebands".
COTW (836 D)
18 Feb 14 UTC
"far greater risks"
could you be any more subjective?
and no... noone does suggest that because that isn't their job. However, stopping crime and criminals IS the police's job. Sometimes criminals don't fight back or shoot at cops, but a lot of times they do. Cops are supposed to handle the situation.. and win. It's their job. People get killed all the time in my neighborhood, I wouldn't want to have cops that are afraid to shoot people watching the streets.

I think some of that depends on whether their customers are black and whether they are in Florida

"Sometimes criminals don't fight back or shoot at cops, but a lot of times they do."

If gunning down people is how you think cops are supposed to "handle" situations, you're sick. I live in a bad neighborhood, too (there was a stabbing on a sidewalk within sight of my front door last year, and year before that there was a three fatality gun battle during an attempted robbery of a drug house house two blocks away, among other things). But I'm more afraid of the police than anyone else - this, for instance, happened less than a mile from my house and is the kind of thing to expect when 'cops watching the streets aren't afraid of shooting people':

The police should only draw their weapons if lives are actually in danger. That's a very simple concept, but somehow it has failed to cross the Atlantic to the U. S..

Might have something to do with how well armed criminals are in the US and how frequent the murder rate is.

Didn't you earlier claim you were a businessman making 6 figures? Why do you live in a 'bad neighborhood'?

Escuse me Putty, but isn't it you who derides anyone that moves out of the ghetto for safer havens? Now you are deriding someone who has the ability to live in safer havens for not?

You **really** need to learn how to be consistent in your thinking, just once in your life. I think if we were to examine "The Musing of Putin" in the collective archives of webdip, and then erase every statement you have made for which you have contradicted yourself at another point in time, the final tome "The Musing of Putin Filter for Consistent Thinking" would read like this:

" "

The end.

Can We Get Bipartisan Agreement Here This Is Isanity?
http://news.yahoo.com/kansas-bill-gay-same-sex-segregation-210533466.html "Gay rights advocates are outraged over a bill — passed by Kansas lawmakers earlier this week — that would allow businesses and state government employees to deny services to same-sex couples if “it would be contrary to their sincerely held religious beliefs.” ...Well, we can't get bipartisan agreement here over everything (just like Congress!) but come on...that's unethical, plain and simple!
