So where did you hear about the game of Diplomacy?

I was just curious about where you guys heard about this game that I have come to really enjoy. I discovered it a few months back and we actually organized a game at my school which was going to be face to face and we would submit orders on a weekly basis. That didn't work so we were looking up virtual versions and came across this site thus I found you guys.

I saw a nice shiny box in a toy shop and thought, "maybe if I play it will assuage my urge to kill people in the real world" ...... in hindsight it may have been a better life choice to have bought 'Game of Paedos'

I don't remember exactly, but I bought the board game a couple years before stumbling on an article for phpDiplomacy. Although I understood the rules pretty well from the rulebook and considered the game amazing, I wasn't able to play with anyone but my father before joining here.

A grad student colleague of mine mentioned the game to me and had wanted to get a F2F game together, but we could never succeed in getting seven people. I thought perhaps some online versions existed, and came upon this.

Saw an article about the death of Allen Calhamer, the game's creator, on Feb 25 of last year. I remember seeing the game in the old Avalon Hill catalogs many years ago and always wanted to try the game but never got the chance. So, I did some google research and landed here.

Referred by a friend. Before this I stumbled onto a diplomacy game app on play store. Being a big strategist fan I fell in love with it immediately.

My big brother played it in high school and sometimes I joined in. Kind of fun to the nine year old playing with the big boys!

Didn't play for a couple of decades when one of my son's friends unearthed an old school set with the real wood pieces and red leather looking box. They didn't want to play, but I came online and found this site by way of an internet poll on favorite places to play

I played it in high school back in the early 70s. But it would take us all night to finish a game, so we would start one, end it, start another one, end it, until I discovered AOL PBEM (play by email). Eventually the Diplomacy group got their own AOL Keyword "Diplomacy." Those were some great games.

Introduced to the game by my dad I'm the late 70s and played it in a politics class in high school (used what I learned in Conflict Simulation club when playing war games with miniatures :-) ). Continued playing when I discovered the judges and in a city wide Diplomacy club. Then found the website some 5 years ago (plus a couple months).

cancel instead of draw

hi, i was in a live gunboat game a while ago in which there were 2 people who left. everyone had voted draw except for one person who refused and just voted cancel. i needed to leave soon and didn't think i had time to email the mods so i voted for everything. continued below.

Game crashed?

I played gunboat game: gameID=135825 about a half hour ago and it crashed. Couldn't reach the site and now i'm wondering whether this was my problem or if the site was indeed unavailable for others too?
Other websites worked perfectly at the time.

Defence VS Offence

What do you think the strengths and weaknesses of defence VS offence are in war? I personally think that a good offence is 100 times better then a good solid defence. Having a good Defence on the other hand can destroy large numbers of enemies who may attack..... The unfortunate thing about it is most armies now days are mobile enough that they can maneuver around defences.

GB Russia openning Mos - STP rather than Mos - Ukr?

Do any of you favor that? Seems excess energy is wasted in the North early on, particularly as you can be bounced from Rumania and a fleet in Rumania means you will lose Galicia...

Looking at Moves in GB -- Especially in the end game...

I am shocked by how often setting up stalemate lines in GB is blown when moves are not viewed to see why a particular unit appears idle... of course that has resulted in some solos on my end, too...

Draug tries to get addicted again...

OK, so I actually did enjoy myself in that last game, despite the ending and the current vitriol coming from Roka, so I'd like to try again. This will have to be limited to just 20

for now, but I want another group of top notch gunboat players (Roka need *not* apply) to try and teach me a lesson again. I made it to the top three last time. Think you can kill me earlier?
